Battlefield 2042 Season 1 is currently set for release in early June.

DICE‘s troubled title Battlefield 2042 finally has a release date for it’s battle pass-style upcoming Season 1 update. Early June is the time but it can’t ever be set in stone with the quite frankly horrible start to Battlefield’s life cycle. Even before release this game has been in a downward spiral, with the open beta last summer that gave everyone access to try the game early being pretty much unplayable to multiple delays to the initial release date of the game Battlefield has taken many many hits but DICE and EA are trying to turn this around with multiple hotfixes and patches to build up to the release of Season 1.

Season 1 is DICE and EA‘s attempt to copy the unbelievable success of Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone‘s battle pass, a live service with plenty of features and unlockables for gamers to earn whilst playing with friends and against others in online competitive modes. Battlefield 2042 has taken such a reputation hit over the last 6 months with players leaving in droves with the PC edition of the game dropping below 1,000 concurrent players in April, a truly shocking amount from such a popular run of titles, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1, 4 and 5 all being massive successes for DICE and their publisher EA.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson was quoted last week.

This is one of the great franchises of our industry, built by one of the great teams in the industry, and our expectations are it’s going to continue to grow and be a really important part of our portfolio for many, many years to come.

This comes after many fans suggesting that EA and DICE have given up the crumbling franchise after flagship Halo Infinite was released with fans loving the newest addition to the long running franchise. Andrew Wilson had denied claims that Halo Infinite made Battlefields issues look more prominent after Halo’s impromptu release of a free multiplayer for all Xbox players.

Through all the stumbles EA are hell bent on sticking with Battlefield 2042 with multiple quality of life updates and listening to fans requests to add features that were expected such as a dynamic leaderboard to check on your stats mid-game(something that should’ve been featured since release). So does the future finally look bright for Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield Update Coming Next Week

Battlefield 2042 is to receive over 400 bug fixes and improvements in its next update. According to Kevin Johnson, Community Manager for EA DICE, the game is set to receive Update 4.0 next week. Johnson tweeted the announcement on April 13th and shared some of the “key” features that DICE are bringing to the game. Let’s have a look at what these features include.

Changes to Specialist Characters

The first update mentioned is changes to Battlefield‘s new Specialist System. Johnson announced that characters Rao and Paik are to have their traits updated. Specialists are one of 2042’s new addition to the Battlefield gameplay and feature 10 characters each with their own speciality and trait. However, this new system has received a large amount of backlash from fans, who say it ruins gameplay and is merely a means of monetisation and micro-transactions – a feature no stranger to EA players. EA announced that they would address these issues, however Johnson confirmed that this update is merely focused on three of the characters individually.

Rao, a Hacker or Recon character, has a Trojan Network trait, in which a player must kill an enemy to then reveal the locations of other nearby enemies. Paik, another Recon character, has a Threat Perception trait that allows players to automatically spot the enemies that are inflicting damaging on them. It is not stated yet what the updates to these traits will be, but perhaps it will make the traits less cumbersome to use or more rewarding – a complaint that has been levelled at these characters. Sundance, an Assault character, is also being updated with fixes to her Grenade belt allowing for better “target acquisition”.

XP Updates

Update 4.0 also brings a string of updates towards Battlefield‘s XP and award system. Johnson announced that updates are coming to the Ribbon system, which should allow players to upgrade more easily in game modes such as Rush. Rush, in which one team must detonate charges while the other defends, has been a staple franchise game mode since Battlefield: Bad Company. It was removed from Battlefield 2042 but after severe backlash, the developers returned the game mode to the Battlefield franchise. In addition to the Ribbon system, the updates also focus on XP for support actions and teamplay to “ensure teamwork remains king.”

Attachments

Next on the list of features receiving an update are weapon attachments. Attachments have long been another staple of the Battlefield series and received an update with the launch of 2042. The ‘Plus System‘ allowed players to quickly change attachments while on the move. However this feature also faced criticism, with players complaining that the attachments were either not working or looked too similar. According to Kevin Johnson, Update 4.0 seeks to face these criticisms head-on, with a focus on making sure the attachments feel unique.

Vehicles

Finally, the last major change listed focuses on the vehicles in 2042. Johnson tweeted that the vehicle warfare will undergo “balancing” with the intention of making the battle between vehicles and infantry less one-sided and “still has some bite!” In addition, a major bug is being addressed after many players experienced no ADS – meaning they couldn’t aim – after they exited a vehicle.

Desperate Times for DICE?

Next week can’t come soon enough for the developers at EA DICE, after reports that Battlefield 2042‘s Steam player count dropped below 1,000. Steamcharts‘ data suggests the average player count for the last 30 days sits around the 1,800 mark. In comparison, recent hit Elden Ring has an average of around 351,000 and long fan-favourite CS:GO reached up to 575,000 players in the last month.

Battlefield 2042 has been beset with issues from the start. And while DICE seem to be addressing the problems fans are facing with Battlefield 2042, the number of problems the games still has suggests it will be a long road ahead.

Battlefield 2042 has had a rough few months since its launch. Its scrapped a lot of series staple features, it doesn’t run well (to the point that cheat developers have abandoned the game), and its player base is consistently lower than that of Battlefield five, the also maligned previous entry in the series. Hell, the game doesnt even have a scoreboard and will only be getting one in February.

Industry insider Tom Henderson on Twitter is painting an even bleaker picture of this game. In one tweet he stated:

“For those asking, I dont know whats going on at the moment with Battlefield 2042 because I dont think *they* know whats going on. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place and it’s going to be genuinely difficult (if not impossible) to fix the game.”

He went on to say, regarding EA’s upcoming earnings call:

“We’ll probably get the following on the game during their earnings call on Feb 1st “BF2042 failed to meet expectations on launch, but we have a strong live service planned which we will announce soon” – But I’m hoping analysts will put pressure on EA to get answers.”

This is the same sort of statement said about Anthem before its cancellation and closure, so thinks are really looking down for the struggling game.

Later, Tom Henderson would return with even more news, saying that EA is disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 has performed, and may even be looking into taking the game to be free to play to some extent. Originally saying more would come the next day, it was actually 2 days later that Henderson would post a youtube video to his channel titled “BATTLEFIELD 2042 FREE TO PLAY? – Player Numbers, Analyst Opinions. Legal Consultation, and MORE!”. You can check out the video here.

It should be noted that even if this ends up true then this isn’t necessarily the whole game going free to play, maybe just a part of it like the portal mode for example.

EA. Honey. Baby. Comrade. I’m not saying we need to talk about branding… Because we don’t, I hope Battlefield fans enjoy the good news… On the shared universe front, at least.

EA: Out with the old, in with the new.

A Gamespot report shows that the Battlefield publishers at EA want to release more Battlefield titles with shared characters and connected storylines, ala the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Other plans for the company include Oscar Gabrielson (general manager of DICE) being set to leave EA.

Vince Zampella (co-founder of Respawn Entertainment) is now the official overseer of the Battlefield franchise. Marcus Lehto (of Halo design fame) is also going to be in charge of a new studio in Seattle with the aim of making greater narratives for the Battlefield series.

Zampella, when asked in the Gamespot interview, stated the new plans for improving Battlefield are not, I repeat, NOT an attempt to deflect from the fact that Battlefield 2042 has had a relatively unsuccessful launch, likely due to having more bugs than an entomologist’s personal fire ant reserve. “We will continue to evolve and grow Battlefield 2042, and we’ll explore new kinds of experiences and business models along the way”, Zampella claims.

Fawzi Mesmar (head of design at DICE who worked on Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront games) has also reportedly left the company shortly after Battlefield 2042 released, a work email showing he had wanted to leave for some time.

Back to the shared universe:

“In this universe, the world is interconnected with shared characters and narrative. This universe is also built with our community as we harness the power of Portal and user generated content that puts creativity in the hands of our players” – Vince Zampella.

It’s possible Lehto may also have a hand in developing the upcoming Battlefield mobile game set for 2022 release. EA also claimed to be putting Zampella in charge of overseeing development of a new game by Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA). There’s currently no explicit mention of the new game being in the Battlefield series.

Battlefield 2042 has finally been released, after a week of limited access. Now it’s available for people to use, Plenty of players have been checking out the portal editor. This is a new feature to the series which allows players to create their own custom games, similar to the forge Mode of the Halo Series. Recently, one fan decided to utilize this toolsuite to create a custom game involving the games wingsuit.

2042 has introduced a lot of new gameplay features to the battlefield series. One of these is the wingsuit, an ability available when playing as the specialist “sundance”, players can glide using this item to help reach places quicker. The ability also helps you to catch enemies off guard, making its use incredibly important. So, to help players get used to this ability, they made a practice course for them.

Posted on reddit, a user going by the moniker “andygmb” shared a video from the game. In said clip, they show off the custom wingsuit course they had created. The purpose was to help those who wanted to improve their ability. The video shows the course in action, with the player starting at the top of a skyscraper and then proceeding to glide through a series of rings to get to the ground. The rings are laid out in such a way that passing through them requires precise adjustments to the player’s flightpath.

Along with the video of the course, andygmb shared some behind the scenes of how the course works. Apparently, the rings are formed from bots. These were used as other visual elements were unavailable in portal mode. Furthermore, they also revealed plans to share the code for the training course in the future, for those who want to practice.

Following the creation of the wingsuit course, it will be interesting to if andygmb create any more courses for 2042, or if there are any more interesting portal mode Maps in the works.

Battlefield 2042 has been building up a bug collection like Pokemon, but as a self-proclaimed First-Person-Shooter Numpty, I just don’t get the same energy level of “You can do it Bezos, BURN IT ALL” compared to New World roasts… But, I’m not getting paid to half-ass my job, so let’s get stuck in!

Since the Early Access EA Play events of November 12th, there’s been discussion of the game’s bugs as well as related issues like causing Xbox One consoles to crash for a time.

Battlefield features a melee combat execution that takes the player out of first-person mode and into a third-person perspective so they can soak up the successful addition to a kill streak in all it’s morning glory! Some players are dissatisfied with this feature, but I say “bruh, you’re probably the kinda person to buy cosmetics for an FPS, this is probably the only way you’ll get to see your character’s rainbow-printed backpack and unicorn ghillie suit during gameplay, this IS as an absolute win“!

In a YouTube clip posted by the creatively named and not at all vapid-sounding ‘Battlefield 2042 Clips Daily’, a video surfaced showing a player perform a melee kill animation that, shock horror, didn’t do a single drop of damage! Redditors who encountered a similar glitch also claimed that performing melee finishing moves prevents the player from turning right or left. Wish there was a word to describe people affected by this motion-based rigidity, but I suppose “centrist” is taken!

Players affected were also unable to swap weapons and experienced varying levels of lag, though apparently, quickly mashing the knife button helps get rid of the delay.

The employees at EA and DICE have been working hard to fix the bugs plaguing the game. As these issues are largely affecting the Xbox console versions, I recommend picking up the PS4 or PS5 pre-order versions we have over at the Go2Games store. Or maybe Battlefield Revolution, I mean, it has “revolution” in the title, so my leftist ass would eat that up in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for my aforementioned FPS-Noobery.

The recent discovery shows that it’s surprisingly smaller than expected

New information on Battlefield 2042 has been revealed. According to the PlayStation Size Twitter account, Battlefield 2042 will take up 42.717GB in the EU and 42.389 GB in the US. This file size is also apparently without a day one patch, where it is expected to jump up.

Battlefield 2042 is due to release on November 19, 2021. If you pre-ordered the Gold or Ultimate versions, however, you get to play early starting November 12. The same goes for Battlefield 2042’s pre-load which starts on November 17 (standard) or November 10 (Gold/Ultimate).

DICE/EA’s futuristic FPS will also be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. The things that you will need in order to play on PC have been recommended by EA for players to have an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and 100GB of SSD, however, there is also a minimum specs option too.

In other Battlefield 2042 news, EA has revealed brand new specialists from various countries that you can use, one of which is a non-binary person named Sundance, who was spotted using They/Them pronounces on their character profile on the Battlefield 2042 website. EA have also released a new trailer for the upcoming first-person shooter which features a look at the game’s Portal mode.

Looks like my birthday is coming early and so am iiiii- going to tell you about some big releases coming on my birthday month? Yes, yes I am. I so am.

Here are some big titles to keep an eye out for this November 2021!

Call of Duty Vanguard: N@zi Zombies are the bread and butter of COD. Both in the in-universe sense and in the ‘stereotypical foul-mouthed 9 year olds doxxing players and casually calling everything the n-word’ sense. Sledgehammer Games has, however added a unique story twist for the single-player campaign. It is an alternate history story wherein Gestapo leader Hermann Wenzel Freisinger fills the power vacuum left by Hitler’s death. By the sounds of it, essentially getting vibes of “What If Inglorious Basterds, but Hans Landa became the new Hitler”, which to be fair, would be a neat concept if the performances in the story mode can carry it through. Cautiously optimistic with this one.Vanguardreleases on November 5^th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Till then, we also have plenty of other COD games and merch at good prices here.

Battlefield 2042: It’s bigger and badder than any previous Battlefield game, and by that, I hopefully mean better, though it’s not just about the size, it’s how you use it- ANYWAY! The game will drop November 5th and is entirely focused around the multiplayer experience, with seven maps and 128-player matches in classic modes like Conquest. The Hazard Zone mode will see players battle against eachother and AI enemies to extract data drives, whoever gets the most wins. There have been some middling reviews from the Beta and I’m more a single-player or couch-co-op kinda guy myself, but I see the appeal.

Football Manager 2022: Currently available in early access on PC and will launch worldwide on November 9th for Xbox One, PC, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. For any Fifa fans looking for something to tide them over till the next one comes out, choose from over 500,000 players and 123 leagues to live out your Football Manager dreams… I mean, the fact that it has 2022 in the title? That’s not a real year😉!  The Data Hub lets you utilize real-world metrics and the game also features improved AI and more opportunities for strategic gameplay.

Jurassic World Evolution 2: Frontier Developments will be releasing this Jurassic Park-building dino-breeding management sim on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC this November 9th. Jeff Goldblum is also returning as Ian Malcolm for the game, so colour me intrigued.

Shin Megami Tensei V: For the less weeb-initiated of you: Shin Megami Tensei is a visual novel RPG game, usually seeing players in a life-building dating sim by day and a fantasy turn-based action game by night. The Persona series is a spin-off franchise set in the same universe, MCU style. Considering how successful Persona 5 and Royal got when they released, as many people’s entry points to the series, I’m intrigued to see how the story and gameplay of this game turn out. This game drops November 11^th for the Nintendo Switch, check out the trailer here!

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter 1: An open-world detective investigation game, Fogware presents a story featuring a younger Sherlock Holmes returning to his childhood home in Cordona, which is precisely one letter change from being a reference to… The kingdom from Tangled, let’s say. Explore the island, don Hitman-esque disguises and battle your way out of scuffles with gun combat. The game will release on November 16^th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise: An upcoming expansion mode to the main New Horizons game on November 5th. Customise your own ‘vacation homes’ for villagers, explore new environments, design schools and restaurants, have a gay ol’ time folks.

On October 21st, last Thursday, EA Dice revealed the final five specialists who will be joining Battlefield 2042 next month: Santiago “Dozer” Espinoza, Navin Rao, Jisoo Paik, Constantin “Angel”  Anghel, and Emma “Sundance” Rosier.

Many fans noted the use of they/them pronouns for Sundance, and took to Twitter to ask if the character is non-binary.

From their biography on the official EA Dice website, it seems to suggest that the French specialist is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. The Lead Community Manager at EA, Adam Freeman, confirmed that this was, in fact, the case.

Sundance, who was born in France, belongs to the assault class and utilises smart explosives as their speciality, from scatter grenades to micro-drones. They also can use a wingsuit, allowing them to traverse huge distances of the map when completing objectives. Their kit looks great so far, and they’re shaping up to be my favourite operative.

The response has been mostly positive, besides some gamer dudebros taking personal offence at the inclusion (sigh) and those misgendering the character already (double-sigh). I think they’ll get over it, however. They don’t actually care enough to stop buying the game, and NB gamers like myself are here to stay! Let’s hope that more video games follow suit, I’m excited to see more non-binary characters in the future of gaming.

Meanwhile, following feedback from the Battlefield 2042 open beta, EA has revealed that it will make the game’s aim assist stronger, as said in a blog post: “We’ve also heard your feedback on Aim Assist strength on controllers. You helped to show us that it was too low, so we’ve worked to improve this experience, making it more familiar to players who played with us in past titles”.

Dice are still tweaking the game based on feedback from the open beta

Many fans have faced problems with the Battlefield 2042 beta, citing issues with the performance: being loaded into the wrong servers, having matches filled with too many bots, and having a lacking UI. In an update, Dice has explained how it can hopefully help solve these issues in order to improve the player’s experience. With hope that the game’s November 12 early access launch would have seen these changes be resolved, Dice has said more changes should be made for the game’s November 19 launch.

Dice hopes that players understand that the open beta build will not be identical to what players will experience at launch. Because the build is based on an older version of Battlefield 2042 the game wasn’t quite as polished in areas as the team might have liked and this led to some performance hiccups as a result.

UI features such as ‘Commorose’ which allows players to notify teammates where they are and what items they need,  and ‘Big Map’ which show you where battles are taking place – were missing from this build. The HUD has been tweaked in order that it is more useful so that there is clarity with how the information has been presented.

A concern that won’t be going away though is Battlefield 2042’s inclusion of specialists. With the five specialists that have been announced, five new specialists for the game have been recently revealed:

• Navin Rao – a support class specialist who can hack targets, then kill them to reveal nearby enemies
• Santiago ‘Dozer’ Espinoza – an assault class specialist who can survive explosions
• Emma ‘Sundance’ Rosier – an assault class specialist with a wingsuit
• Ji-Soo Paik – a recon class specialist who automatically marks targets that deal damage to them
• Constantin ‘Angel’ Anghel – a support class specialist who can rapidly revive allies and restore their armor.

Dice hopes these new specialists and their abilities will help to address balancing concerns players had during the Battlefield 2042 open beta. The studio added that they hope the reveal of these new specialists will help address players’ concerns over the game’s balancing.

Battlefield 2042 is set to release on November 19, and can be preordered here for the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5 the Xbox One, and the Xbox One X.
