Minecraft is whatever the player wants it to be, however there’s a chance a real time strategy spin off may emerge.

Widely released in 2011, Minecraft has become a gaming icon over the past decade, being one of the highest grossing gaming franchises. Given the amount of freedom players have, many sub-genres can be gained from the open sprawling sandbox, but a rumor has arisen that an official real time strategy game could be in the works.

The rumor originates from The Jeff Gerstmann Show, hosted by Gerstmann himself, a video game journalist, former director of GameSpot and founder of Giant Bomb. He states that he’s seen screenshots and descriptions detailing a Steve-esque character in a group about to attack “Piglins” and will have a defined story and characters.

The RTS genre would favor the Minecraft universe, as item management already being a strong component of Survival Mode, resulting in success or failure, managing fleets of fighters, their armour and other components sounds like a fit, most likely aiming a pre-teen demographic, as to ease younger players into the wealth of depth that an RTS can bring.

2015-2017 bought the Minecraft: Story Mode spin off from Telltale Games and Minecraft Dunegons, a dungeon crawler was released in 2020, both to generally positive reception, thus another spin-off sounds likely.

As Microsoft and Mojang haven’t confirmed anything, let alone a new game yet, this Minecraft RTS is still a rumour, but one that holds weight, as both companies would love to continue the monumental success of the franchise.

A talented Minecraft player builds a Redstone version of the popular Wordle browser game

Minecraftallow and the Redstone mechanics for a massive amount of creativity for those that can master them. Many players have already been able to do things such create intricate circuitry and even create a fully functional version of the popular Wordle browser game.

Many Minecraft players who are deep into redstone circuitry prefer to utilise a superflat Creative mode world. This prevents natural terrain from getting in the way of its special wiring. Given that the redstone Wordle is in the sky, it seems that would be the case and for good reason. The time spent gathering the materials for a massive redstone project can take nearly as long as a project itself.

Players are provided with a no-risk playground for prototyping when playing Minecraft, which is a major reason why big redstone projects are even possible.

Even with its longievity ten years going strong, Minecraft updates have helped keep the game fresh for returning and new players alike. Previous updates have expanded the redstone toolset  by adding bow and arrow targets, and other blocks that add even more options to the already large amount of tools available to redstone enthusiasts.

The Wild Update is coming soon, and will be the final form of the new Sculk-type blocks and will introduce even more fresh mechanics to the game. For fans of Wordle, though, it is hard to think of a better creation than this

One dedicated Genshin fan has recreated the entirety of Teyvat in Minecraft with stunning detail and accuracy.

One of the reasons Minecraft has continued to thrive since its initial 2009 release is the limitless creativity it allows its players. One such player has utilised that freedom to recreate the world of Genshin Impact in incredible detail.

Shared on Reddit, an incredible Minecraft builder known as DawnArchi showcased their megaproject in a stunning video of their Minecraft version of Teyvat.

The iconic locations such as the Dawn Winery, The Crux Ship, the Tenshukaku, Dragonspine, and more, are instantly recognisable. The level of detail is so outstanding; even the trees are accurately placed. I especially love the gorgeous colours of Liyue harbour, which looks even better when it’s lit up for the Lantern Rite festival.

The video itself is fantastic in its editing and use of soundtrack – and Genshin is well known for its soundtrack.

The video was reposted from the Chinese site Bilibili with permission from the creator, and Redditor H4xolotl was the one who shared it to the Minecraft subreddit and translated the subtitles as well.

I can’t even fathom how many hours of work must have gone into this creation – but it must feel amazing to be able to view the outcome in your Minecraft world!

Following up from my last article analyzing confirmed release information and hailing our lord and savior Hatsune Miku for creating it, Minecraft has finally released it’s Cliffs And Caves 2 Expansion! Players who have downloaded the Bedrock Edition or Nintendo Switch players can now access this update’s additions in all it’s morning glory.

This Minecraft update has been hotly anticipated for some time, promising better environmental effects, all new super-sized locations, biomes, ALL OF THE RACES!

Turns out the Caves and Cliffs update was so big that Mojang have announced it will be coming out in two parts, hence this update being ‘Cliffs and Caves 2’, you see.

Between the naturally-spawning lush and dripstone caves offering new ore veins and blocks, players can also go mountaineering with Billy Goats Gruff, so try not to get yeeted from on high.

Some concerns have been raised that the regularity of gameplay additions and updates from Mojang means the game won’t be seeing as many regular bug fixes and patches in the future, but hey, they’re a big boi gaming company that made a game that launched the careers of thousands of YouTubers, I’m sure they’ll be fine.

Why bring this channel up? Because the presenter Dan Olson did an interesting video on Minecraft, Sandboxes and Colonialism.

I recommend watching it yourself, but the short version is, Dan makes a lot of parallels between the design philosophy of many open-world games and the practice of colonizing.

I mean, let’s break down how most popular open-world games work to the barest of bare bones minimum: A lone Man Of ActionTM explores some vast landscape of beauty and dangerous conflict, where familiarity and knowledge of the setting often translates to improved strength and/or extra mechanics that lead to you becoming the most powerful bloke around. It’s almost like there’s some kinda Empire Of The British Variety that got a kick out of dicking around with other countries, looting their boxes like Activision and congratulating themselves by framing the people already there as intrinsically less important than themselves.

Britain is far from the only country to take part in colonialism, but you get the idea, I trust. And not to get too political, but back in my pre-uni days, the furthest my knowledge of British history went back essentially consisted of WWII trivia and funny stories about Sir Francis Drake. That’s all well and good, but learning about the bad with the good? I can dig it.

And on the off-hand that this article makes it’s way to some anti-Critical Race Theory part of the internet… Trust me. I’ve studied Post-Colonial Theory and Critical Race Theory. Most of you haven’t picked up a textbook on the thing and it shows!

Minecraft Caves and Cliffs 2 Update Features:

• Dripstone caves, for any Slick Goku fans in the servers!
• Lush Caves being added to the biomes list with various new subtypes of mountains. Snowy Slopes, Mountain Meadows and more.
• Promises of some of the biggest caves and caverns seen in-game to this point.
• Local water levels, waterfalls and higher mountain tops.

But, there’s a smidge of bad news. Archaeology, backpack-like bundles, and goat horns are getting pushed back amongst other things, as Mojang announces there will be some content delays, most likely as a result of working to get this update out sooner.

“These features have been put on hold. They have not been cancelled, we just had to put them on the backburner for now” – Mojang in recent update on official Minecraft website.

Furthermore, the Warden enemy, part of the upcoming 1.19 Wild Update will also be put on hold till next year.

Minecraft version 1.18 will be available for Java Edition and Bedrock Edition both on November 30.

An Analysis On Why The “Hatsune Miku Made Minecraft” Meme is Darkly Hilarious and Tragic: Sit down and strap on, it’s story time! Hatsune Miku is a hololive character and virtual pop idol. Basically one of the earliest examples of a Vtuber. The legend goes that one day, out in the digital ether one day, some discourse arose alleging the actual (or “actual” depending on your commitment to the joke) Minecraft creator Markus Persson  made transphobic hate comments on Twitter (including, but not limited to advocating for purposeful misgendering). Not long after, a parody Twitter account of Hatsune Miku boldly claimed “I created Minecraft” and the collective online sphere from Tumblr liberals to groypers lost their collective minds!

This then set off a whole new joke genre of saying “Hatsune Miku made X” whenever an author of a popular piece of media says something queerphobic. Obviously, in terms of games and most art (Minecraft included), there’s usually a team involved with making the product, so there’s not always a single “author”/auteur in the traditional sense, but it’s a good joke format for things like the JK Rowling controversies.

Why is this meme “darkly hilarious”? In part because it speaks to a desire to have your cake and eat it too. I mean, just full on claiming “I don’t like the way things are, so I’mma tell you how the world should be and you’re gonna like it” in a pretty absurdist way. Any fan of HP Lovecraft worth their salt will tell you that for all the depth and enjoyment of his writing, the not-so-subtly racist and homophobic parts can be distracting, to put it mildly. To paraphrase one Sunburned Albino – “Think of the nicest, sweetest, most hardworking person you know in the entire world… That person does crack”! Metaphorically speaking.

One Minecraft enthusiast has taken the last year to complete two planets from the Star Wars universe. A worldwide lockdown due to a deadly virus may or may not have something to do with all that free time. The YouTuber goes by VC-MC on their channel but is also known as Vistachess on Reddit. Minecraft itself gives the freedom to do just this with its expansive sandbox universe and is known for players imaginative creations.

Vistachess claims on his Reddit account,

“I’m building the entire Star Wars Galaxy into an open-world adventure map. These are the first two planets.”

A formidable task to take alone, but if the maps they’ve already created are anything to go by, Minecraft players are in for a treat. The concept is a huge hit online, with one post reaching 5.7 thousand likes at writing. One Reddit user had a lot of praise for the creator by stating,

“Mojang should hire you to do Minecraft map stuff. This is Incredible!”

If this were to happen, it wouldn’t be the first time significant companies have had their heads turned by content creators and snapped them up.

So far, the maps near to completion are Coruscant, the city-planet, and Tatooine, once the home of Luke and Anakin Skywalker. Coruscant is fine detailed and even features the inside of the Senate where Master Yoda faced off with Darth Sidious in Revenge of the Sith and the Jedi Temple where Anakin’s turn to the dark side was sealed. Tattoine is just as detailed and filled with throwbacks from the films, Luke’s home where he lived with his Uncle Owen, the deep ravines which young Anny traversed in The Phantom Menace. Also included is the menacing Jabbas Palace and the deadly Sarlacc Pit in which Boba Fett supposedly met his fate in Return of the Jedi.

VC-MC has gone that step further by producing a trailer for the maps, empowered by the sound of “Anakin’s betrayal” composed by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Any true Star Wars fan will instantly recognise the harrowing sounds. Likewise, the landscape of Tatooine and the depth of Coruscant are instantaneously recognisable.

This isn’t the first time Star Wars and Minecraft have come together. It probably won’t be the last (Hopefully). Vistachess’s incredible maps may inspire others to join in on the construction of the numerous other planets in Star Wars. They may well need it if it took a year to a year to create the two current maps. From his latest post, the lush green planet of Naboo is in the works, but this is just the tip of the iceberg, for there are many more planets to this galaxy far, far away. To celebrate 30 years of the cult classic Sonic the Hedgehog, Minecraft have released a new DLC that players can buy for just 1,340 minecoins!

The downloadable content includes a little bit of everything for everyone. Not only are there fully playable recreations of fan-favourite levels like Green Hills Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, and the adorable Chao Garden from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, players have access to over 25 different skins that include Sonic himself, Shadow, Knuckles, Tails and Amy Rose. The levels will also feature enemies, boost pads, and rings for you and your friends to collect along the way.

Not only this, players will be able to grab a free Sonic the Hedgehog character creator item, and a two-week server takeover is in the works to celebrate the anniversary, which will feature lots of minigames and a special surprise on one of the weekends too!

Anyone that is a fan of Minecraft will know this isn’t the only third-party IP that has joined the platform-building world. Previous DLCs created for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition by GameMode One and Majong include Star Wars, Jurassic Park, How to Train Your Dragon, and the other beloved retro game, Pac-Man. There’s no doubt this DLC will also join the list of becoming an instant classic.

There is never a better time to be a Sonic fan than right now. After the slightly shocking success of the live-action movie last year, a sequel is in the works; along with a Lego Sonic-themed set thanks to a fan’s submission; and back in February, Netflix announced SonicPrime, a 3-D animated TV show set to be released in 2022. SEGA also announced an HD remaster of Sonic Colours will be released later this year.

The video game that has taken the world by storm is getting its own movie. Minecraft is a sandbox video game that lets players build and create different constructions out of different blocks. Now the game has made it to the big screen.

The Minecraft movie has been confirmed for release on May 24^th 2019. The news was revealed on the Mojang blog by Vu Bui, the COO of Mojang. He said, “Yes, that might seem like a long time away, but it just so happens to be the right amount of time to make it completely awesome.”

The movie will be produced by Warner Bros. and will be released in 3D and IMAX.

Over 20 million copies of Minecraft have been sold on PC & Mac

Well, it’s not like we didn’t see that coming really! Minecraft has managed to sell over 20 million copies for Mac and PC, and just in time for this weekend’s Minecon too.

On the official website, the sales tracker has revealed that 10,430 people have bought the game in the last 24 hours, for the Mac and PC, which has boosted the sales on these platforms to a staggering and outstanding 20,007,781.

it has, however, been a little while since we heard how the game is doing on the other platforms. We learnt that Minecraft sold 12 million copies last year in April on the Xbox 360, and the PS3 version was on 1 million within the same year in January 2014. The Pocket Edition had also sold over 30 million by January 2015.
