Every Thursday, the Epic Games Store offers a fully free game to its players while also showcasing what they may expect from the next week’s free game offerings. Epic Games have updated the store for this week, making DARQ: Complete Edition free, whilst also revealing what’s up for grabs next week.

Epic Games Free Release Schedule

The next free game is not scheduled to release until after Halloween. Its replacement will not be a horror title. This is because Halloween will have passed by the time DARQ is withdrawn from the Epic Games Store.

Aven Colonyis the next Epic Games Store free game for November 4 to November 11. Aven Colony is a science fiction city management game in which players must oversee mankind as it strives to colonise the alien planet Aven Prime. Aven Colony, like other city management games, is all about constructing new structures, managing resources, and responding to the needs of the residents. Aven Colony has been described as “Sim City in space,” so if you’re into city building simulators, this is the one for you. Don’t miss out!

Although neither DARQ nor Aven Colony received much acclaim when they were first released, the opportunity to play them for free should be alluring. Anyone interested in whichever genre they represent should grab them while they are still free. Again, DARQ is free on the Epic Games Store until November 4th, while Aven Colony is free from November 4th to November 11th, after which it will be replaced by another free game.

With December fast approaching, hopefully we will see the return of last year’s Epic Games Store advent calendar which saw the store count down to the holidays by giving out a new free game every day. The Epic Games Store has not stated whether or not this deal will be repeated this year, but hopefully we will find out soon enough.

With a Halloween event that challenges players to face paranormal perils, Red Dead Online is getting ready to celebrate the spookiest time of the year. In Red Dead Online’s seasonal All Hallows’ Call to Arms activities, players must defend the freeholds of Armadillo, Butcher Creek, Shady Belle, and Bolger Glade against frightening foes. Tricks, treats, and the Halloween Pass 2 are also available this week for those who aren’t afraid of the things that go bump in the night.

This isn’t the first time the Red Dead franchise has ventured into eerie terrain, but this seasonal event goes far deeper than a few zombies here and there and some decorations strung up for good measure. The event will provide as many prizes as it does scares, with players who participate in any All Hallows’ Call to Arms mode receiving twice the regular RDO$, Gold, and XP. Making it to the tenth wave will net you even more benefits in the form of 2,000 Club XP, which can be used on the Halloween Pass 2.

This week, double prizes will be given out for the Dead of Night featured series. In this mode four teams compete for kills in a struggle against the never-ending waves of The Dead. Any players who complete any Dead of Night mode will receive a free Ability Card as a reward. In both seasonal modes of Red Dead Online, the Night Stalker Mask will be accessible. This will allow them to access otherworldly abilities. However, players should exercise caution while using it, as this strength may come at a cost.

Halloween Masks Up for Grabs

For a short time, players may investigate Madam Nazar’s travelling storefront. The storefront will be selling six terrifying Halloween masks. The Slaughter Mask, Creature Mask, Horror Mask, Swing Mask, Freak Mask, and Masquerade Mask are among the new goods available, but they’re far from the only ones. In addition, players’ inventory will find that their inventory contains 10 Snowberger Candies and five Chocolate Bars.

The last key thing to highlight Rockstar have added during the event is the Halloween Pass 2. This is a limited-time update that includes goodies split throughout 15 levels, such as extra masks to obscure players’ identities, bloodstained clothing pieces, and horrifying accessories. Players who have purchased all four instalments of The Quick Draw Club will receive a Reward granting them free access to the Red Dead Online Halloween Pass 2. All players who have purchased the Halloween Pass 2 this week will be rewarded with a free Stable Shirt and a Shirt up to Rank 15.

Video games are perhaps the most immersive medium out there, and hence they really lend themselves to the horror genre. The stakes feel so much higher when you’re the one in ‘control’: it’s almost like your own life is on the line. It’s also a genre where indie devs have thrived – as you can create immersion in various ways when it comes to horror, and there’s much more room for stylism and the player’s suspension of disbelief. Rather than being the best in a ‘technical’ sense, horror games strive to outdo one another in cleverness and concept. I’ve lined up 5 indie game recommendations for you to sink your claws into this Halloween.

Limbo

Playdead’s monochromatic 2D-platform horror puzzle game is a mastery of atmosphere. This game is best played in the dark, with headphones or quality speakers, so every tense breath and creepy sound is heard clearly. The puzzles themselves are challenging, and the tense atmosphere gives them a sense of urgency. Though your character is faceless, their small stature and shallow breathing gives you the impression that this is a child. I felt naturally protective of the little guy, and my desire to get the kid to safety pushed me through the anxiety that this game induces. The gameplay is simple but effective, and I found myself awake at night wondering what exactly is going on in the world that our protagonist has found themselves in.

Blair Witch

Bloober Team’s Blair Witch is, at its heart, about the age-old companionship between man and dog. Take on the role of former police officer Ellis Lynch as he joins the mission to find a local missing boy, Peter Shannon, along with his beloved dog, Bullet. Bullet is integral to the gameplay, the Seek command often necessary to push the narrative forward. Bullet is also crucial for bringing Ellis down from his panic attacks (and keeping me calm too). The game is set two years after the hit indie film and builds on the found-footage narrative style.

I know what you’re wondering: is Bullet gonna be okay? If you don’t want any spoilers, skip ahead to the next game.

Yes, you can keep Bullet safe and sound. He can die if you’re the absolute WORST, but so long as you give him treats, pets, and treat him like the good boy he is, he will be okay! He gets injured at one point, and the game will try to prompt you to abandon him. DON’T!!! Keep walking and ignore the prompt. Even if you get the bad ending for Ellis, Bullet will be alright. Hopefully now I’ve eased the minds of you animal-lovers reading this, you can enjoy the game without constant anxiety over Bullet.

Little Nightmares (I & II)

You’ve probably almost definitely heard of this one. It’s similar to Limbo in terms of theme and atmosphere. The gorgeous and terrifying art creates an eerie and tense environment as you solve puzzles and try to survive. Much like in Limbo, I found myself feeling protective over the little ones (although, like in most horror games, this would be turned against me). These games tap into your buried childhood fears and spin them out before your eyes.

Monster Prom

I said that the games would be Halloween-y! I didn’t promise they would all be scary. Monster Prom is a ridiculously funny dating sim game with what feels like an infinite amount of endings. The goal is to take one of the high school hotties to prom, but it’s surprisingly difficult. Half of the time I end up getting rejected or on some strange tangential secret route. My current goal? Romance the cat who runs the shop. It’s best played with friends, so you can revel in the absurdity of it together.

OXENFREE

Night School Studio’s OXENFREE is my number one recommendation on the list. If you haven’t yet played this indie hit, you’re in for a huge treat. The game is a narrative masterpiece, the characters are so real and tangible, and every choice you make feels leaden with consequences. Your heart will be SQUEEZED and you’ll be desperate to uncover the secret ending. It offers only a small slice of solace. Perhaps the upcoming sequel will provide more answers.

Ubisoft announces a crossover event for its multiplayer action game For Honor, as Dead by Daylight lends a Killer for Halloween

Halloween is coming closer and closer, with the gaming industry responding to the changing times. That includes For Honor, Ubisoft’s multiplayer third-person combat game in which you can play as knights, samurai, and Vikings. Now, with the collaboration with Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight, undead Killers can be added to the list in a special Halloween collaboration.

The Survivors of the Fog event will be occurring between October 21 and November 11 in which a unique version of For Honor’s 4v4 PvP game mode will be available exclusively to play in For Honor. Gamers are expected to have some frightful fun with this new game mode, which is similar to the game’s own Dominion game mode.

In the Dominion game mode, there are two teams of four players hoping to capture several points. Only, instead of each team having an army of AI-controlled warriors at their side, there will be a single neutral Killer roaming the map hunting players. That Killer is Dead by Daylight‘s Trapper, who brings several twisted weapons and traps with them. Players will also be able to fight and kill the Trapper for additional points. Since players don’t control the Trapper, the Dead by Daylight crossover element is more immersive than a full gameplay experience.

To reward players for participating in the Survivors of the Fog event, Ubisoft is granting all players a Free Event Pass for the duration of the Halloween event. This is a smaller version of its battle pass, in which players can be granted a Dead by Daylight-inspired Effect, Ornament, and even a Battle Outfit if they keep on playing.

It is much like For Honor to have this kind of feature, but the horror will be heavily ramped up for the Halloween season.

For Honor is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Marvel’s Avengers is known for its variety of skins available and now it’s getting into the spooky season…

Crystal Dynamics has released the first Halloween-themed skin for its action role-playing brawler game, Marvel’s Avengers, and fans cannot wait to get a hold of it.

Marvel’s Avengers tend to take inspiration for its skins from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet sometimes it also takes it from the comic books, and this is one of those occasions. The video game published by Square Enix is constantly receiving updates and new content released in ties with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also expanding upon the Marvel universe available in the game for players to earn or purchase.

Capwolf

The new skin design is based on a Captain America comic from 1992 where Captain America is depicted as a werewolf on the cover of Captain America issue 405. There are some differences as Captain America’s fur on the comic book was black and the fur for the skin is white, yet carries the iconic concept over to the video game well and is possibly the most extravagant design the game has seen as of yet.

It is available to purchase from today in the Marketplace, yet it has still not been stated the price or whether it will be a rare, epic, or legendary skin.

It is highly possible that this is only the beginning of Halloween-themed skins available on offer, and with the recent zombie episode in the Disney+ Marvel show, What If…?, we might be seeing more horrific designs our way.

The official Twitter account for Marvel’s Avengers also tweeted that The Cosmic Threat Event is making its return from today until November 4th and gives fans the chance to earn Thor’s Enhancement Outfit and spooky nameplates along with it!

Fans of Marvel’s Avengers are also anticipating the video game’s first raid event that is meant to be happening sometime soon and will feature Klaw from Black Panther comics/movie as the antagonist.

Call of Duty Mobile Season 9: Nightmare is soon to be released with mobile fans excited of what is to come.

With Halloween fast approaching. Call of Duty always have something special in store for the community with Warzone, Cold War and Mobile players expecting interesting things for this year’s event in particular, ‘The Haunting’ Event.

What is ‘The Haunting’ Event?

This week we saw the release of ‘The Haunting’ Event for Call of Duty: Warzone and Cold War for this year’s Halloween; releasing October 19^th. The Haunting fans expect new challenges, new weapon skins, new operator skins, new rewards, new modes and more. With one of the most exciting modes that release every Haunting being the ‘Haunting of Verdansk’ on Warzone.

The Haunting of Verdansk being a mode where the normal Verdansk map is set at night with players being able to become zombies after being killed. You must survive as the alive player in order to win the battle royale.

‘The Haunting’ is set to most likely run until November 1^st, a few days before the release of the newest COD game, Vanguard.

Season 9: Nightmare launches October 20^th/21^st depending on your time zone. The official time of release being confirmed as 5PM PT / 8PM ET on the 20^th with it releasing 1AM BST for those in the UK.

The Halloween festivities on the arise meaning the highly favoured Undead Siege is set to make a return. Undead Siege, being a popular Zombies mode looks set to return with a Halloween twist with players fending off the undead on Isolated with a variety of Zombie types and opponents.

The new season also includes a brand-new Battle Pass, a set of new rewards, new Multiplayer Maps and more. Obviously as Halloween is near, the menus and setting will all be surrounded around the event.

This week Pokémon Unite is having its inaugural Halloween Festival! The event begins on Wednesday and adds new stuff to the competitive online game, including a new playable Pokémon, Halloween-themed costumes, and more.

Pokémon Unite is a free-to-play Pokémon spinoff that is available for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. In the game, two teams of five compete in lane-based combat to see who can score the most points. It also allows for cross-play and cross-save functionality. The event was announced on the game’s official Twitter page early this morning.

The new Pokémon being added to the roster is Greedent, a melee defender that can drop restorative berries for its teammates, is the latest playable Pokémon. This is on top of plenty of new Holowear clothes options for other Pokémon, such as Bandit Style Lucario and Bonfire Style Charizard.

Along with the new Pokémon, the Halloween Festival event provides scary new trainer attire like as a candy bag and a Pikachu-shaped pumpkin mask. Mer Stadium, the fighting arena, is also getting a Halloween revamp for the occasion.

The Pokémon Unite Halloween Festival is open till November 7th. The trailer in the Tweet above shows some of the new content that will feature while the event is ongoing.

The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes makes his Fortnite debut just in time for Fortnitemares, the game’s annual Halloween event.

Fortnite’s Newest Arrival

Fortnite, the popular Battle Royale game, continues to evolve with new seasons and content. Over the last year, the game has been increasingly reliant on crossover events involving characters and brands from other media to differentiate itself from its competing Battle Royale titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends. Companies like Disney have greatly aided Epic Games’ success in this strategy, not only by providing new skins of Marvel and Star Wars characters, but also by participating in limited time modes and seasons.

Epic hasn’t only been dependant on huge names for its crossovers and has managed to include a variety of unexpected characters such as Halo’s Master Chief and God of War protagonist Kratos. Mike Lowry from Bad Boys, Rick and Morty, as well as numerous musical artists, have all participated in the crossover material. Now, one of AMC’s most popular programmes, The Walking Dead, is introducing one of its most well-known characters to Fortnite.

Rick Grimes is now available for purchase in the game’s item shop for 1,500 V-bucks, according to a tweet from Fortnite. The Walker Club harvesting tool, the Sheriff’s Duffle back bling, and the rare Crashing Satellite glider are also available for 500 V-bucks. For a reduced price of 1,900 V-bucks, players may get a bundle pack that includes everything.

Rick Grimes is not the first character from The Walking Dead cast to join Fortnite’s roster, with Darryl Dixon and Michonne also previously making appearances. They were both originally available back in December, and have made a reappearance in the Survivors in Arms bundle, which is available for 2,500 V-Bucks. The pack also includes their back bling and alternate costumes.

Fortnitemare’s Halloween Event is Live!

The new addition is dropped with good timing as Fortnite’s annual Halloween themed event started this week and will go on until the end of October. There will be a whole variety of Halloween costumes for players to enjoy. While the event is running new Halloween skins will be featured in the shop every week, and its uncertain if there will be a particular pattern to when these are released. This means it is important to check frequently to make sure you don’t miss out on any of your favourite skins.

The Cubes will continue their campaign to dominate the Battle Royale map later this month. This will include a new Sideways weapon, reintroduced Halloween goods, and a reintroduced LTM. Players may also win free prizes by completing  Cube Challenges.

Call of Duty have never been shy of doing crossovers on occasions as we all very much know. Now with Halloween 23 days away and fast approaching, the very familiar Ghostface looks set to feature on both Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War and Warzone from October 19^th as a limited-time operator meaning it will be available for a set time for the Halloween event.

Call of Duty confirmed this through Twitter replying to a Ryan B. of Karnage Clan tweet with Ryan B. claiming to have found the Scream, Ghostface outfit when he went onto the multiplayer game mode with it appearing on Operators’ Warsaw team. Call of Duty swiftly reply “Shhh… the scares begin on 10/19.” Showing Scream performing a shh action.

Now if you are one of the people so excited to discover every Call of Duty rumour or leak then you may have been aware of this rumour coming out during August this year. And with yearly events happening around Halloween, even the ones that didn’t see it expected a crossover of some sort. With last year starring Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and launching “The Haunting of Verdansk”, fans could not wait to find out what the crossover this year would be and with it now being officially confirmed, the excitement has only increased!

Ghostface is an infamous movie villain, being one of the most iconic with many aware of the style and fashion in which Ghostface scares and murders. Ghostface is well known for its movie series named Scream with 4 currently being out released all from 1996 – 2011 (Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4) and with another in the works, set to be released sometime in 2022. One of the most iconic moments of Ghostface was in Scary Movie, the Scream parody movie with the moment turning into a famous meme. Many Call of Duty fans may look for the famous meme to be included in the game, but with nothing being confirmed on that we will have to wait and see for its inclusion.

Now with this being a limited-time operator it doesn’t entirely mean in the future it will not be permanently installed available for in-game purchase. So Ghostface fans don’t get your hopes down about only playing with it for a set time as that may not be the case. The Call of Duty community will be looking forward to seeing what Weapon Class will feature along with the Ghostface Operator, knowing well that Ghostface carries a kitchen knife, fans look forward to seeing it.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone are both available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
