I may be a couple years too late to say this, but in the unlikely (or likely, depending who you ask) event of a second trip to “Loch Down”, Gartic Phone (developed by Onrizon Social Games) is one of the best free-to-play games for your socially-distanced needs! And stay tuned for a few of my own Gartic Phone highlights!

First, you fire up your laptop, search for Gartic Phone via your preferred search engine, be it Bing, Ecosia, or even Rule34 if you’re in a particularly good mood and would like to ruin it! Then punch in your username, share the room link to three or more mates and Bob’s your uncle! Prepare to enter The Fun Zone!

The Fun Zone (Gameplay): First off, you get to type up a silly prompt for someone to draw. If you’re not creative enough to come up with something yourself, no trouble, an example prompt will pop up until you start typing. Once the time limit to write is finished, you then use Microsoft Paint-like drawing tools to attempt bringing someone else’s prompt to life. Alternatively, you have to guess and type in a prompt to interpret what fresh-hell of cubist insanity someone else drew before you! The end result is a show reel revealing how how hilariously right or wrong everyone got it!

The results are especially rib-tickling if you and your mates are playing with Discord or other voice chat apps in the background to get the best reactions to a picture followed by hilariously unrelated prompt or prompt followed by stick figures in awkward situations.

Various game modes with different rules or adjustments let tailor your improvised competitive shenanigan sessions to you and your friends’ preferences.

1. Normal: As discussed up-top.
2. Knock-Off: Replicate drawings while the clock gets faster.
3. Secret: Your creations are hidden till the grand finale.
4. Animation: Create animations with others.
5. Icebreaker: Ask questions and let your drawings run wild.
6. Complement: You start with basic lines and see the other players’ interpretation.
7. Score: Attempt to gain the highest score.
8. Speedrun: Speedrunning is Awesome, Here’s Why.
9. Sandwich: Start writing and drawing until the end.
10. Crowd: 15+ player battle royale!
11. Background: Create a fixed background for your animations.
12. Solo: Make animations in just five frames.
13. Custom: Does what it says on the tin!

Gartic Phone is available on PC and Mobile in many languages (including Hebrew, Persian, Korean, and Vietnamese).

Oh, Konami! You sweet, adorable, totally not cartoonishly inept company who dashed the hopes of a Silent Hill sequel featuring Kojima and Del-Toro on the rocks of… Well, not the profit motive, that’s for sure!

Konami forgot to renew it’s rights to the official Silent Hill website domain, leading to a substantially more business savvy individual buying rights to the website from right under the company’s nose. Will things stay like this? The answer is yes, but actually no, but definitely maybe!

Konami does own the rights to Silent Hill (much to the dismay of the fanbase), so they may be able to reacquire the website in the future. Oddly enough though, this isn’t K-Dawg’s first rodeo with not bothering renewing websites of it’s IPs (intellectual property), so I wouldn’t be too worried.

What happened to SilentHill.com? Besides replacing every asset and link with a single screenshot of The Famous Pyramid Head Tweet (that was a fun one to write about), the meta description reads “He Was First”. Perhaps Masahiro Ito had some prior knowledge of this little prank, or it’s generally referring to the designer’s agreement with many fans that Silent Hill games dropped in quality the further they got from the third one.

On a related note, Konami announced sometime last year that games from “new and existing IPs” will be in development in collaboration with BlooberTeam, an indie game company. Will Konami try to replace the ‘P’ in CPUs to stand for ‘Pachinko’? Will BlooberTeam touch their hearts enough to magically make them gift Kojima with the Metal Gear Solid rights on Christmas Day? Horizon Forbidden West: Relic Ruins – The Daunt Guide

The Daunt is a mentioned-only location in Horizon Zero Dawn, and a playable area within the recently released sequel Horizon Forbidden West. Players can expect to delve deep into the aforementioned set of great canyons, located on the frontier of the Carja Sundom. Within The Daunt, Relic Ruins can be found.

There are several Relic Ruins within Horizon Forbidden West. These platforming puzzles offer XP rewards and a  collectible called “ornaments” that exists often tucked away behind locked doors; reaching them usually takes some quick thinking.

The first of these Relic Ruins in The Daunt, the game’s starting area, sets the table for what to expect from these tricky puzzles. Here we’ll walk you through how to complete it so you don’t have to delay Aloy’s adventure by more than a moment.

To begin, head inside the building ravaged by time and look for a metal crate with yellow markings. These crates will be seen often in the game, especially in Relic Ruins. Move the crate to the center of the room near the yellow handhold hanging above you. Normally just out of reach, now you can grab it by jumping on the crate first.

Jump up onto the second floor and you’ll notice the locked door needs both a key and a code to open. Leave it for now and head outside via the balcony left of the door. Jump the gap and enter a new room. Drop down onto the floor and look for the purple collectible in view. It can be scanned with Aloy’s focus, and reading it will give you the code you need for the door: 1705

.

Turn around and use your pullcaster (aim with R2, then switch to pullcaster with triangle) to pull a second crate down from above. Then look for the vent at the end of the room and once more use your pullcaster to yank the door off of it. Using the crate, jump up to the broken overhang left of the vent (where the supply cache sits), then jump and grab onto the now open vent.

Head inside and drop down to find a fragile wall identified by the blue metal bars bolted into it. This is another recurring signal to use the pullcaster, so do so and you’ll create a gaping hole in the wall. Head into the hole in the floor beside you (it was there already) and run to the end of the dark hall, using the pullcaster once more on a ceiling piece featuring the same blue metal bars. You’ve now created a hole in the room above you, the same room you just blasted a hole into one step earlier, and the original room where you set up the first crate.

Climb back up to the previous floor and drag that original crate into the hole in the floor. Carry it to the other side of the dark hall and use it to reach some handholds (always noted by the color yellow). Climb all the way up to the top and jump down to the balcony to find the key.

With both the key and the code in hand, you can now open the locked door to the game’s first Relic Ruin. You’ll earn some well-deserved XP, plus a shamrock ornament.

An insightful look into the actors behind the storytelling in Horizon Forbidden West

A new video has been uploaded giving insight into the development of Horizon Forbidden West.

Horizon Forbidden West is an expansion of Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017, with new characters. In a new trailer from Sony ahead of the game’s upcoming launch, Horizon Forbidden West’s cast had been showcases returning faces Ashly Burch as Aloy, Lance Reddick as the mysterious Sylens, John MacMillan as Aloy’s ally Varl, and John Hopkins as the Oseram warrior Erend.

New characters in the story include Noshir Dalal as the Tenakth warrior Kotallo and The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss as Tilda, a discreet person who also sports a great amount of post-apocalyptic fashion in a world ruled by machines. Another big Hollywood name said to appear in Horizon Forbidden West is Angela Bassett, despite not being in the video above, players will encounter her character of Regalla throughout the game.

An early build of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West has leaked into the public domain

Images of what was claimed to be the PS4 version of the PlayStation exclusive began circulating on social media on Monday.

VGC has since been told that the leaked build is indeed legitimate and, other than some missing art assets, contains the core content planned for the final game in its entirety.

Following the publication of images claiming to show the leaked Horizon Forbidden West build on Twitter, the media was eventually removed hours later due to “a report from the copyright holder”, which adds further credence to their legitimacy.

T Forbidden West build does not appear to be circulating on file-sharing sites, though Sony will likely be wary of a situation similar to The Last of Us Part 2, which saw story spoilers circulate widely online well ahead of its official release date thanks to a similar build leak.

Horizon Forbidden West is not due to release officially until February 18. The sequel will be available for PS4 and PS5, with last-gen players able to upgrade to the new-gen version of the game without any additional fee.

Publisher Sony announced Horizon: Forbidden West for PS5 in June 2020 before confirming a PS4 version the following September.

In an interview with Hardware Zone published in June, Horizon Forbidden West director Mathijs de Jonge claimed the game hasn’t been held back by the weaker of its two target platforms.

Sony have officially confirmed that a sequel headset to the PSVR is on the way, unsurprisingly dubbed the PSVR2 (personally I was holding out for the PSVitR… geddit? Like… like Ps Vita… god I need to be shot). 

Probably the bigger news is that the Headset will launch alongside the PSVR2 Sense Controller, which is a big deal. The original PSVR was a fine headset, but its biggest holdback was that it lacked a specific controller to play games with. Every other major headset has their own controllers which work with motion controles to simulate your hands in VR, however the PSVR chose instead to just use the Dualshock 4 controller. This limited the kinds of games that could be put on the platform, and also lowered the immersion of the experience. The PSVR2 Sense controllers, however, are much more inline with the kinds of controllers you get with something like an Oculus Quest or Valve Index.

The Sense controller will have some legs up on most of the competition, however. With it featuring Haptic Feedback and adaptive triggers, the Controller will be comparable in many ways to the Valve Index Controller, which is the Gold standard of VR controllers right now (along with, honestly, the entire Valve index just being the best VR headset out there)

While its unlikely the PSVR2 will top the Valve Index in pure power, it doesn’t need to as it is a proprietary addon to the PlayStation and doesn’t have to compete with other companies like Valve does on PC with HTC’s Vive headset and Metas Oculus Platform.

Alongside this, PlayStation also Unveiled Horizon call of the mountain, a VR spinoff to the hugely popular Horizon Franchise.

While the actual headset has not been shown off yet, Sony did unveil some specs for the headset, including that it would feature OLED screens with a resolution of 2000 X2040 per eye, and also that the device would be capable of a 90Hz to 120Hz refresh rate, allowing for Higher FPS and deeper immersion. He headset will use IR cameras for tracking rather than Base stations and lasers, which will keep costs down for people looking to get into the product, as well as the headset featuring six-axis Motion sensing.

Well… Concerns have been raised!

After the game’s latest playlist update, the Champion Hill mode of Call of Duty Vanguard has been currently removed on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 console versions due to a crash issues.

‘We’ve removed Champion Hill on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S while we investigate crash issues in this mode’ – Sledgehammer Games in a public statement.

Vanguard released on November 5th with a selection of noticeable malfunctions, to use parliamentary language. There’s been reports of visibility issues on maps, an FOV glitch and code redemption issues for PS5 owners. Vanguard also has the oddly specific title of Worst Performance Of A Call Of Duty Game in The UK In 14 Years! But that’s rich coming from us, considering our film industry isn’t even big enough to be consistently self-sustaining for crying out loud!

Call of Duty Vanguard also closed its ‘Secrets of the Pacific’ event hours into it’s launch due to similar crashing issues. Now, I’m not saying this was due to crunch work issues… No, really, I’m not saying that. All I’m saying is I’m not saying that!

After reports of low sales, in an inconspicuous act of corporate nepotism, publisher Activision held a free Call Of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer Trial Extravaganza a couple weeks after the game’s release.

Call of Duty Vanguard will have launch its first official season December 8th along with a new map.

Now, given the one-two comboner of Vanguard receiving poor reception and my having not played it, it would be extremely crass and disingenuous of me to say that I feel it is worth buying… But, in the spirit of paraphrasing the CinemaWins philosophy that “every game is somebody’s favourite”, feel free to have a butcher’s round our store if you want to give it or anything else we have a try. The State-Mandated Corruption-Reminding Power Hour (Trigger Warning – One mention of suicide and sexual assault in this paragraph): Just using this paragraph to say that regardless of the game’s quality, another aspect of a product worth noting is how it came about. If someone wants a company’s games to be ethically made and sourced the same way some ethically sourced venison farms work where the little Bambis die of old age first, then it is my (and others’) duty as reviewers and/or commentators to say “these are the facilities in which this product was made, take that how you will”. I bring this up in regards to Sledgehammer Games and Call of Duty Vanguard because, plot twist, their parent company is Activision, so this was secretly a “look at the horrible things Bobby let happen” piece all along! Specifically, around the early stages of Activision Blizzard’s California lawsuit, there was coverage of an often-assaulted and bullied woman who killed herself shortly after nude images of her were shared around the workplace. One of the main perpetrators in that story happened to be from Sledgehammer Games. This goes back to how firing Bobby Kotick isn’t going to fix the issues with a collection of board members that own multiple companies, as the systematic issues here are far beyond just one bloke.

No One Expects The Spanish Exposition: Horizon Forbidden West is the upcoming sequel to hit action-adventure narrative game Horizon: Zero Dawn. Developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, who have definitely not engaged in any attempts at unfair threats of legal action to maintain a monopoly on console-customizing skins, ever, not in the slightest, you’ll just have to trust me on that. Horizon Forbidden West launches for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on February 18.

Nadie espera el juego: In addition to Aloy being more realistic-looking and reactive than in the first game, which is no mean feat, Horizon Forbidden West will see a more expansive world. Lead Living World Designer Espen Sogn has claimed players will “encounter a world that feels more alive and more real than ever”. 

In a recent official PlayStation blog post, Bo De Vries (Community Leader at Guerrilla Games) details the game’s design intentions and features. Bo De Vries goes into a level of detail far too girthy for little ol me to squeeze into 600 words or less, but I can summarise some highlights!

The game will explore the cultures between two different in-game tribes, Espen mentioning the tribes’ different customs will play a role in communicating the player’s status in the world.

“The Oseram are a social and historically patriarchal tribe, so their animations are more about shoulder punches and high fives. The Utaru, on the other hand, are laid back, so they will often sit down together and be a bit more touchy-feely”.

In addition to touching on weapon upgrades (you can carry up to 6, including your trusty spear), Senior designer Steven Lumpkin claimed that different clothes you equip have different effects on your interactions between tribes. Clothing will mostly effect what items you can get in places alongside giving unique gameplay buffs, so I think it will mostly function similarly to Ghost of Tsushima (psst! Which we have!). Which is to say, you get to unlock various clothes that offer unique gameplay advantages depending on how sneaky or trigger-happy you want to get!

“Clothing reflects a unique style, as well as the materials a tribe has access to and knows how to use […] Hunters from the Nora tend to favor ranged combat and stealthy hunting. Carja excel at the use of traps and tripwires. The boisterous Oseram love fighting up close and personal with a hammer. The Tenakth and Utaru have their own preferences as well — and the outfits Aloy can acquire from each culture tend to reflect and support these unique approaches to combat” – Steven Lumpkin.

In an official post by PlayStation on it’s blog site featuring comments from Blake Politeski (principal machine designer) and Maxim Fleury (asset art lead), the developers at Guerrilla Games confirmed some details of the upcoming enemies from everybody’s favourite dinocybaurg hunting series… Actually, if you’ll let me indulge my inner CJ The X, I’d pay good money to see a Cyborg Transhumanist (not about trans humans, though transhumanism has been added to the pride flag this year) reading of the Horizon series. I’m only a little ways in, so can’t comment too much, but the infusing of the natural resources with mechanical beings shtick sounds like there’s a lot of philosophical meat to chew over on that. And who knows, maybe I’ll do it myself, maybe I’ll make a 5-hour long documentary on Hedy Lamar The Ultimate Girlboss! Maybe I’ll become so famous that I could afford to follow up Endgame with F**KING DOCTOR DOLITTLE!

Blake and Maxim confirmed some returning enemies from Horizon Zero Dawn, specifically, the Watcher and the Snapmaw. They’ll appear alongside Forbidden West’s new enemies, Clawstriders and Tremortusks aplenty which you can see in the Horizon Forbidden West gameplay trailer here.

“It was interesting to figure out what type of machines would live in different ecological zones, and how they would interact with each other, their environment, and, of course, humans” – Blake Politeski.

The game’s development has involved a lot of careful consideration about interesting scenarios players can find themselves in when fighting monsters. For a breakdown of the primary traversal and combat tools, click here. I’m talking grappling hooks, resonator blasts and gliding-galore! Pullcasters, stab-masters, spike launchers and more!

“We recommend using traps, as well as the Pullcaster. Though slow, they can reach a speed that will easily trample Aloy, so get ready to dodge” – Politeski and Fleury on combating the Tremortusk, based on the use of war elephants in real life history.

Because not everything from Horizon Zero Dawn’s concept art could make it to the game, Politeski also confirmed that some of the new enemies would be adapted from those past extra art pieces, so if any of you managed to get your hands on the Complete Edition (which you probably did since we sold out of it), scroll over the enemy designs there, you may find something that’ll come up in the next big trailer or gameplay reveal. And while we may not have Horizon Zero Dawn or Horizon Forbidden West (at time of writing), in the spirit of all things Horizon themed, have a butcher’s hook at… *checks notes* Horizon Shift for Nintendo Switch… Sometimes you just gotta lean into the awkwardness of an advert to pay the bills-

Horizon Zero Dawn had a whopping 25 different enemy types, so needless to say, the devs at Guerrilla Games seem very attentive to the idea of making multiple unique enemies leading to combat encounters that put new spins on Horizon gameplay.

Horizon Forbidden West is set to drop February 18, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

If you missed out on the free download period for Horizon Zero Dawn, fear not, we at Go2Games HAD it on the store, but now it’s gone, oops.

Horizon Forbidden West is being developed by Guerrilla Games, who have recently made some statements regarding gameplay, tools, weapons and skills. For a little deep dive into other news on the game and rumblings of a new multiplayer game or mode, check my last article here. Here’s a 14 minute gameplay preview if, like me, you’re more a visual learner.

David McMullen, lead systems designer at Guerrilla, made some statements regarding the game in PlayStation’s official blog site: First, expanding on the 14 minute preview’s use of Alloy’s new Pullcaster, ‘a mechanical wrist-mounted device with two separate functions […] a grapple mechanic, allowing the player to swiftly and easily ascend the environment and providing a dynamic traversal/escape option to the player toolkit’. McMullen also describes that it’s possible to channel your inner Errol Flynn by going swing-swang from your dangalang while firing your bow off at enemies from using the Pullcaster to launch yourself into the air before giving a high-up location the good ol’ grapple-dapple… I’m exaggerating, but not by much.

Furthermore, the Pullcaster also has a winch function, allowing you to go full Nathan Brake on the environment to pull up hidden treasures large objects, like in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which we DO just so happen to have!

We also have more updates on the Shieldwing glider and if I didn’t know any better, I’d say that based on the naming, maybe the Shieldwing will have more than one basic function.

Slightly borrowing from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (which we also have, wink wink), Horizon Forbidden West will also include a “shooting from above” skill, which, based on a similar skill in Zero Dawn, slowed down time briefly as you aim while in the air. That plus some new skill tree additions, including freeclimbing abilities so you can more easily scale the fatta the land.

New weapons mentioned in the skilltree that will have relevant effects includes the Spike Thrower: Presumably a harpoon-like weapon, specialized for fighting “larger targets”, coming with various elemental ammo types.

Dennis Zopfi, Guerrilla’s lead combat designer for the game has also made statements regarding character-accurate gameplay mechanics – “Aloy is not a character who deals with brute force, so we were looking for ways to have the player go back and forth between melee and range, where she could use her precise bow skills to work towards a big payoff moment”

“a (new) skill that does this is the Resonator Blast, where you charge up the spear with melee hits and when fully powered up, the energy can be placed on enemies (humans and machines alike) and followed up with a projectile – resulting in a big damaging explosion”! In addition, the article states that the open world will include encounters that mix up both human and non-human enemies, whereas the first game mostly had the bad robo boys and the bad human boys in separate contextual arenas most of the time, so that’ll lead to some interesting scenarios. Kinda like how in The Last of Us Left Behind DLC, you could stealth your way around and throw a bottle near a bloke with a gun so that you can go Napoleon on their ass to divide and conquer!

Sony has announced the game will be delayed till February 18, 2022. They have also decided to backpedal on its previous offer of free PlayStation 5 graphics updates to those who bought the Playstation 4 standard edition, mild downer but hey, at least that means more time to improve the main game.
