Approaching the third month…

I’m almost halfway through my Kickstart placement, can you believe it? The first half of the week was spent on writing blogs. Some of the highlights for me were my updated Albedo build guide, and an article on the reveal of Kamisato Ayato’s voice. As usual, there was tons of Genshin Impact content to write on. It’s quite nice for me to have a writing niche that I’m always well informed on. I’m extremely well prepared for the next half of Genshin 2.3, with my pre-farming for Arataki Itto near completion, so you can expect more quality content for that!

In the second half of the week, our focus shifted to content descriptions. I’ve completed around 20 in a few days, so my speed could do to be improved. I am a lot more confident in how I conduct them now, however.

Sadly, this is the last week at G2G for our colleague and friend Jewel Ewers. Jewel has written a lot of great blogs about a variety of indie titles, as well as on Animal Crossing. They’re really great blogs, so you’d do well to check them out!

Somehow, ten weeks have already passed since I joined the Go2Games team.

The past few months have flown by since I began working with G2G, and I’ve very much been enjoying my work. If you saw my last weekly blog, you may remember that I set some goals with my careers mentor.

Though I’ve made some headway with these, including getting on with my LLC online course, I still have far to go. This week was a little tough as I’ve been dealing with my chronic headaches, and I didn’t get quite as much done as I would have liked to.

Still, I put heart into my blogs as always – especially my original blog on Shenhe and Chongyun. Speaking of, the other writers and myself spoke a bit about how to make our blogs successful.

I noticed that my Genshin Impact blogs tend to outperform my other blogs. I believe writing consistently in a certain niche has been very helpful, especially when you have plenty of knowledge in that area. Genshin’s constant updates, along with frequent leaks given the games popularity, have been giving me plenty to write about.

I feel like I’ve let my novel and creative writing in general take the sideline this week, which isn’t the most ideal. When I’m not able to express myself creatively, I tend to see a negative impact on my mental health and mood. This comes back to my time management goal, as well as performing better self-care.

Everyone has times when they don’t feel there best, though. I’m glad I am working with such nice, understanding people, at a job I really enjoy, as it makes times like this more bearable.

Today marks the end of my 9th week working at G2G.

It was a particularly interesting week, as I had my first appointment with my careers mentor from Elev8. We set some goals for my Kickstarter position. My first goal was to increase the speed at which I produce my product descriptions.

We’ve mostly been working on blogs at the moment, and I do find it much easier to meet my quota with those. I think it’s closer to what I’m used to writing, whereas I’m less familiar with the commercial writing required for product descriptions.

However, I’m studying SEO and improving in these aspects every day. In fact, I’ve improved a lot already since I started. My current goal is to increase my speed from 10 descriptions to 15 per day.

My other goal is to do with time management. If you haven’t read my personal blog before then you won’t know that I am also an aspiring novelist. As well as writing for Go2Games, I spend a lot of time writing for my own creative projects.

At the moment, I’ve been struggling to delegate time properly. I’m often writing during my break, and I’ve neglected to start my online course. I’m hoping to address this by managing my stress and organisation, starting with an update to my bullet journal this weekend.

In other news, I’m quite busy with the Genshin 2.3 update. Partially because I love Genshin, partially so I can keep delivering quality blogs that fully use all my Genshin knowledge. My Itto blog hit 70 views today, which is quite nice!

The past couple of weeks flew by – hence I’m condensing the last couple of weeks into one post!

We’ve mostly focused on blogs the past few weeks, though we also got quite a few product descriptions down as well. One of the highlights for me was reporting on the Genshin Impact 2.3 Update Livestream.

The reason this was exciting for me was because I actually watched it live, and I wrote my blog as I watched! So the information was really hot off the press. It also took me some considerable extra effort, and afterwards I wrote a breakdown of an upcoming character’s kit. Again, in this case I had to understand it for myself just using info from the stream.

Additionally, my Albedo Build Guide article involved a lot of work. I shared information I had gathered in-game over time, and even uploaded clips to demonstrate how the character works.

Those blogs performed better than my usual posts, so you can tell that the hard work paid off!

In other news, we’ve also been working on employability courses with LLC. Not only that, but I’ve been assigned a mentor from Elev8careers. It’s great that the Kickstart scheme is actively involved with my employment and I’m working to improve my employability in multiple ways!

Outside of work, I’ve been struggling a bit. Working on my novel can get tedious at times. I’m hoping to visit the National Gallery soon, as that environment also helps me get inspired.

The post My 7th and 8th week with G2G first appeared on Get2Gaming.

This week, we were focused on writing blogs, and I got to explore various topics.

The highlight for me was writing an article on the Attack on Titan x Sanrio collab – I even included my own art of Hello Kitty Erwin.

I would love to put my drawings to use more often in my articles when the opportunity arises! Another important article to me was this one on Battlefield’s first non-binary operative since I’m non-binary myself. Perhaps I’ll also pre-order Battlefield 2042 from the shop.

I’ve also been enjoying the spooky shenanigans for Halloween. I ran out of articles to write on on Wednesday, so I made an original article: a list of indie games for Halloween. Unfortunately, though, I had an episode related to a chronic illness, and on Thursday, I was out of action. I’m doing much better today. It seems I just needed to catch up on rest. On that note, I’ve postponed my Genshin stream – but I will get there! Perhaps I’ll stream my pulls for Itto?

A friend is hosting a Halloween party this weekend, and though I’m still feeling a little rough, it’s just a small get together, and I wouldn’t want to let my friends down.

I definitely need to make time for some spooky games though. Maybe something from our selection? I highly recommend checking out Emma’s article for a more detailed breakdown of some of the available titles.

As for other personal details, I’ve joined a new writing Discord for my creative work! Everyone seems rather nice and helpful.

Yet another week has flown by with G2G! I started writing reviews for the first time this week. It’s actually very enjoyable. Unlike with descriptions, I can let my personal tone show a little more in my writing.

A lot of new writers were introduced this week. It was funny to go from being the newest writer to one of the older ones in a short time. I hope I’ve been a helpful colleague to them!

Working on a live spreadsheet for descriptions and was great once I got the hang of things. It’s quite nice to be able to see everyone’s work at once, and it helps me keep focused.

Speaking of spreadsheets, I made the suggestion this week that we use one for our daily blog titles, so we wouldn’t get any accidental dupes. I think it’s helped quite a bit, and it’s handy to be able to access the list from not only my phone but my PC as well.

I got to write on some of my passions this week, including the Vita, Animal Crossing, and Genshin. I put a lot of effort into the Genshin article especially, as I did my own damage testing with a new weapon on my own time. It was a lot of fun to write, and definitely worth the effort.

I also had my blood test on Wednesday, so hopefully, I’ll be getting some answers on my health troubles soon. Otherwise, it was a nice, chilled week.

What it’s like taking part in an employability workshop for the kickstart scheme

This is going to be a different post from me than the usual as my morning was very different from what it normally is. I usually start my mornings by looking up what stories and news articles I will be covering for the day, however, this morning I was invited to a workshop run by LLC.

LLC stands for London Learning Consortium, which is a community interest company that accredits learning programmes across London and the South East either in the workplace, classroom or via our extensive community provider network. Since the kickstart scheme has started, LLC has been chosen to represent many employers all over the UK and today, the company invited other kickstart scheme employees to take part in an employability workshop.

Employability Workshop

The workshop started with an icebreaker, which I find always gets you out of your comfort zone and interacting with new people around you. It was a round of Human Bingo and I am not sure if anyone was actually able to fill all the boxes (no one wanted to admit they liked country music). It’s always quite intimidating meeting new people, but as long as you know others feel the same way, you know everything will be okay.

The next part was the main reason why we were all there which was understanding what employability means as well as how the kickstart scheme can help everyone can gain these skills and apply them for the roles they are currently undertaking, but also in their career path as well. It helped me realise I need to focus a bit more on what I want to achieve in life as well as not allowing myself to hold back even when I might think the idea has already been done before or have self-doubt in myself and lead nicely onto the two guest speakers we had.

The first speaker was Michael Akinle (theakinleway), a personal brand strategist and people investor who gave amazing advice on building resilience in the workplace and knowing that it can build character as well as having an insatiable curiosity and tenacity with everything you do in your career so you are able to press forward in life in order to keep growing. It really helped me understand what I need to do personally in order to achieve my goals and he also gave great advice regarding finance when getting into employment and how to manage your balance, as well as the importance of credit scores.

The second speakers were our very own directors from Go2Games, Craig and Josh. They gave a speech about their backgrounds and where they have worked previously before going into how Go2Games came about and all the awards, achievements, and recognition the company has achieved which was incredible to see, as an employer of the company but also as an admirer of two people that have been so focused on what they wanted to do as a brand and how far they have come since then. It really made me appreciate playing a small part in something special.

Overall, the employability workshop helped me with understanding what I can do to help myself in my aspirations for my career and how to grow and gain more skills for my employability, as well as understanding you will need to build resilience in whatever line of work you join.
