Did you have a lonely Valentines Day this year? Spend the day gaming away hoping for a card? Well don’t worry, you can always rely on Microsoft if you’re ever feeling unlucky with love. This Valentines, they’ve treated us with two new games for the Xbox Game Pass to keep us entertained. Ain’t that kind of them?

The two titles they’ve unveiled for us are that of Ark: Survival Evolved and Infernax. Despite their clear non relevancy to love, their arrival is a gift the Xbox community will undoubtedly cherish. Not only this, but it looks like those who subscribe to any tier of the service will also be able to get their hands on the two games. Things we just love to hear!

However, what exactly does each game entail? That’s what we’re here to tell you, of course. So let’s delve right into it then, shall we?

Xbox Fans Excited For Ark Survival Evolved and Infernax

Many of you will have been playing Ark for quite some time now. But for those who haven’t experienced it, it is essentially a survival game which sees the you stranded on an island fighting for your life (even having a bit of Christmas fun on its way too). The version on the Xbox Game Pass is the Ultimate Survivor Edition as well, so that’s an added bonus! Here’s the description for the game below:

“Stranded on the shores of a mysterious island, you must learn to survive. Use your cunning to kill or tame the primeval creatures roaming the land, and encounter other players to survive, dominate… and escape!”

Does that sound like it could tickle your fancy? I mean, how could it not? On the other hand is Infernax, which sounds equally as fun in my opinion. It is an indie sidescrolling action game that comes with a unique sense of style. Check out the trailer for it down below and let us know what you think! Afterwards, why not head on over to our store to pick up all the cool games we have to offer too and check out other gaming blogs here!

The gaming world exploded yesterday afternoon when news broke Microsoft obtained Activision Blizzard Studios for approximately $69.7 billion. Fans of both PlayStation and Xbox have been left wondering what this could mean for the future of their respective consoles.

Thankfully for users of the Sony console, it seems that Activision Blizzard games will still land on PlayStation consoles. However, Microsoft do have some specific exclusivity ideas for Xbox as well. This is all according to a latest Bloomberg report, which was quoted as saying the exclusivity process is likely to happen ‘once the acquisition nears completion’.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, reiterated this message by stating that Microsoft won’t just keeping every piece of Activision Blizzard. He subsequently stressed that he doesn’t want to cause a divide within the gaming community by forcing players to change their console of choice.

“I will just say to players out there who are playing Activision Blizzard games on Sony’s platform: It’s not our intent to pull communities away from that platform and we remained committed to that,” said Spencer in an interview.

Microsoft And Activision- What Does This Mean For The Future?

As previously stated, Microsoft will be acquiring Activision Blizzard, including all of its subsidiary studios and game franchises. Combine this with the recent acquisition of Bethesda too, and it looks like Microsoft are really pushing for top spot in this generation.

Moreover, it looks like the acquisition will add valuable content to the Xbox Game Pass. Spencer previously confirmed that Microsoft will be bringing “as many Activision Blizzard games” as possible, which will also include day-one releases. Obviously, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but it is still a nice addition nevertheless.

This news will certainly damage Sony, specifically because they intend to create their own version of the ‘game pass’ in the future. They’ll certainly need to pick up their game after this news, so keep your eyes peeled on what their response could be.

Will Call Of Duty Become An Xbox Exclusive?

One big question which people are concerned about especially is the future of the Call of Duty franchise. Could making new Call of Duty games day-one releases on the Game Pass provide the boost Microsoft need?

Unfortunately for Xbox fans, that doesn’t look like its going to be the case. In fairness, it looks like this could be the right call if Spencer doesn’t want to “uproot communities”. Therefore, it looks likely Microsoft will be limiting single-player Activision Blizzard games to Xbox while keeping games such as Call of Duty: Warzone available on all platforms. That’s a nice balance, isn’t it?

Overall, it certainly looks to be an exciting time to be an Xbox fan! After news that the console beat out its rival last Christmas, things seem to be going well for Microsoft. If you’d like to get involved in the action, check out this awesome bundle we have available on our store right now.You won’t regret it!

Microsoft, the parent company of Xbox, has declared that it has acquired Activision Blizzard in the largest-ever deal in the gaming business. Xbox now owns exclusive rights to Call of Duty, Warcraft, Overwatch, Crash Bandicoot, Guitar Hero, and other games, for a total cost of up to $70 billion, according to the business press.

Once finished, it’s possible that some of the largest entertainment franchises will remain exclusive to Xbox systems, and that subsequent releases will be available on Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service on the day of their release.

Following the completion of the transaction, Microsoft will become the world’s third-largest gaming firm in terms of revenue, trailing only Tencent and Sony.

Microsoft’s Head of Games Comments on Activision Blizzard Acquisition

Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s head of games, said in a statement:

“We are incredibly excited to have the chance to work with the amazing, talented, dedicated people across Activision Publishing, Blizzard Entertainment, Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, King, Major League Gaming, Radical Entertainment, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Toys for Bob, Treyarch and every team across Activision Blizzard.

“Until this transaction closes, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft Gaming will continue to operate independently. Once the deal is complete, the Activision Blizzard business will report to me as CEO, Microsoft Gaming.”

A lot of titles fall under ownership of Activision Blizzard, so it’s crazy to think that we could be seeing titles like Diablo and Overwatch becoming Xbox exclusives, alongside many others. Who knows what the future holds for some of the biggest titles in gaming.

Xbox’s Phil Spencer shares comments on reports of upcoming Sony service.

The head of gaming at Microsoft fully expects PlayStation to compete with Xbox Game Pass through future unannounced subscription service.

It’s fairly well contested that Xbox Game Pass is far superior to PlayStation’s current game streaming service, PlayStation Now. Though there have been some recent efforts to improve the service, nothing that would compare to the slew of AAA titles available to play on Xbox Game Pass.

According to documents seen by Bloomberg, Sony has a completely new service in the works – codenamed Spartacus. Supposedly, this will include the current PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now services in a complete rebrand, and will be available in three subscription tiers.

It is currently set to launch for PS4 and PS5 this spring.

The service will include existing benefits like online play and free monthly titles, as well as a catalogue of games that players with the subscription can access in the second tier. The third tier will also offer extended demos, game streaming, and a selection of classics PlayStation games.

When IGN asked Phil Spencer about the claims, he stated that he felt it was an inevitability.

“I don’t mean it to sound like we’ve got it all figured out, but I think the right answer is allowing your customers to play the games they want to play, where they want to play them, and giving them choice about how they build their library, and being transparent with them about what our plans are in terms of our PC initiatives and our cross-gen initiatives and other things,” he said. “I talk about it as an inevitability. So for us, we should continue to innovate, continue to compete, because the things that we’re doing might be advantages that we have in the market today, but they’re just based on us going first, not that we’ve created something that no one else can go create.

“I like it because it feeds our energy on what are the next things that we should be working on as we continue to build out the things that we’ve done in the past. Because I think the right answer is to ship great games, ship them on PC, ship them on console, ship them on cloud, make them available Day 1 in the subscription. And I expect that’s what our competitor will do.”

It seems Xbox are also more than willing to keep up with the competition. Having a lot of experience delivering a great subscription service, I’d say they have an advantage for the moment. Will PlayStation be able to catch up?

Who’s ready to start 2022 the right way? We certainly are! That’s why we cannot wait to delve right into the latest and greatest which PlayStation Now has to offer this month.

As the festive season comes to a close, it’s quite easy to feel doom and gloom in the winter months. We’re sure you’ve played the hell out of all your Christmas games over the last month (well we have at least) so surely you’re looking for something to spice up your gaming lives once more. It looks like PlayStation Now are going to have you covered.

Six games will be available from Tuesday, January 4 including Mortal Kombat 11, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Fury Unleashed, Uturned, Super Time Force Ultra and Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition. That’s quite the collection of games now, isn’t it?

This certainly boosts the PlayStation Now library up by quite a bit. If you still haven’t got a subscription, well what are you waiting for? The streaming service includes over 700 PS2, PS3 and PS4 games available on PS5, PS4 or PC. Not only this, but there are 300 PS4 titles which can be downloaded in their entirety to be played on consoles. What more could you want?

This isn’t the only month where the game service titles have look exceptionally interesting. December 2021’s PlayStation Now games were GTA III: The Definitive Edition, John Wick Hex, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Spitlings. Whilst the GTA III remaster hasn’t quite gone to plan, there’s not denying its had a monumental effect on the gaming industry today. As a result, it should definitely be checked out by anyone who didn’t play it upon initial release.

Moreover, November 2021’s PlayStation Plus games were Knockout City (PS5 and PS4), First Class Trouble (PS5 and PS4), and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (PS4). What a time to be a PlayStation fan it seems, right?

Recently, it was reported that Sony is likely to invest more into PlayStation Now. However, it seems that they have something else up their sleeve also. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the project is code named Spartacus which will be divided into three tiers.

Essentially, we will still be getting all the standard PlayStation Plus benefits which we usually receive. This of course includes free games every month and being able to access multiplayer content. However, its the second tier when things start to become interesting. Sony intend to give us the ability to download a variety of PlayStation 4 and 5 games onto your particular system.

Lastly, the third tier would give you access to everything else, whilst throwing in some demos and games from the PS1, PS2 and PSP eras. Get ready to delve into the nostalgia bank to relive some of your favourite classics. For more information on this secret project, check out this article here.

In the meantime, be sure to head on over to the PlayStation Store as soon as possible! On the other hand, if those games don’t quite appeal to you, well check out the wide collection of titles we have available instead!

Microsoft has added ten new games to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service for PC and Xbox, including two brand new titles that were released on day one.

Normally, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass membership programme adds new titles throughout the course of the month rather than all at once. They have made an exception for December 16th however. Because the holidays are approaching, Microsoft chose to combine all of the new Xbox Game Pass games for the second half of December into a single day, giving subscribers access to ten new games, including two day one releases.

Titles Coming to Xbox Game Pass December 16th

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, a Metroidvania game, and The Gunk, a third-person action-adventure/platformer game in which players struggle to clear an alien planet of a hazardous chemical, are the new Xbox Game Pass games for December 16, 2021. Both games are currently accessible to Xbox Game Pass users, with The Gunk featuring a native Xbox Series X version.

Alongside these Day One releases, there are 8 other titles that are also available for free from December 16th. These include a variety of family friendly games such as Ben 10: Power Trip, Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay (with co-op support), Race With Ryan, and Transformers: Battlegrounds. Then there’s the not so family friendly, but probably biggest title in this list – Mortal Kombat 11.

Xbox has teased that there will be four new titles coming to Game Pass for PC on their release day.

To be announced on December 9th.

The Xbox Game Pass for PC Twitter account teased 4 new titles to be announced at TGAs, as well as a rundown of the already announced games joining the service in a fictional ‘leaked’ email.

Thank you, Melissa pic.twitter.com/shmfYt5tCo

— Xbox Game Pass For PC (@XboxGamePassPC) December 6, 2021

Among the Day One PC games joining the service is Starfield, Slime Rancher 2, and Redfall. Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator certainly sounds… interesting! It’s apparently set to join Game Pass today, so I’ll have to see what that’s all about.

(By the way, kudos to one ‘Melissa McGamepass’ for including her pronouns in her email tag.)

Coming up is also Halo Infinite (Cloud, console, PC) on December 8, One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 (Cloud, console, PC) on December 9, and Aliens: Fireteam Elite (Cloud, console, PC) and Among US (console) on December 14. Looking forward to a sussy festive season.

Xbox Game Pass has received a plethora of games in the past month, including Anvil (console, PC), Archvale (Cloud, console, PC), Final Fantasy XIII-2 (console, PC), Lawn Mowing Simulator (Cloud, console, PC), Rubber Bandits (Cloud, console, PC), Stardew Valley (Cloud, console, and PC) and Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector (Cloud, console, PC).

Man, I’m kind of regretting having bought Stardew Valley on four different platforms now. I should have counted on the ever expanding Game Pass service.

The Gunk is an upcoming third-person action platformer from developers at Thunderful Games and Image and Form. The game is also from the makers of the Steam World games, which I’ve covered before with the trailer for Headhunter.

The game is an Xbox exclusive (says me, the PS4-thumping Metal Gear Solid fanboy), but it’s also on PC for those of you with more brain cells than I!

The Gunk is set to release December 16th, 2021, day one with the Xbox Game Pass . You can also view a fuller gameplay trailer here.

The folks at Thunderful Games released a featurette on their YouTube channel today. The video sees Fiona Nova (voice actress for the Gunk protagonist, Rani) play through and explain parts of the game and development. The Gunk follows Rani and her group of space-faring friends in Cowboy Bebopian fashion, a rag-tag crew looking to make a quick space-buck. Nova also compliments Abigail Turner’s performance of Bex, Rani’s partner in crime who looks a heck of a lot like Clementine from Tell-Tale’s Walking Dead!

A strange mystery unravels when the crew stumbles upon the remains of a long-forgotten civilisation! The locations shown off vary from fantastical gorgeous landscapes to dark foreboding wastelands, heavily implying a possible horror element alongside Nova’s comments on the Gunk having good tension-building… Also, given how another blog of mine touched on Critical Race Theory, BEHOLD: The CRT Droid!

Speaking of race, it really fills me with some good-‘ol jingle-tingling in my wibbly-wobbly self whenever a game has a lead woman or person of color in the story. A lot of games feature custom protagonists, you could be bright green with a Pinocchio nose without getting shifty looks in most MMORPGs, but having a specific lead character be written as a woman of color in the first place is a good bit inclusion adding to the wider canon of games as artistic expression… Or in lay terms: Girl power yay, gamergate nay!

In the spirit of Rani having that fancy-shmancy arm-canon thingamajig, here’s a question for you smarties reading this… Why in the ever-living space crap do so many black characters in games and TV have a metal arm or gun arms? Like, I’m not complaining, I wouldn’t try to bully someone out of getting a sick robot arm just because they’d be better at finger-banging, but it is a little oddly specific. Jax? Barret? Doomfist? Cyborg? And now Jett Black from Cowboy Bebop is added to the list! Swear down I’m not complaining, but hey, sounds like an oddly specific trend to become a thing in pop-culture. Maybe there’s an interesting historical factoid behind that.
