The new update will address various concerns and requests

Halo Infinite will receive its “first backend skill update” since launch to address inaccurate skill assessment and uneven player skills in multiplayer matches. This has been addressed in a new matchmaking update blog made earlier today, and with a Tweet that the official Halo account has posted:

Since launch we've been studying player ranks and ranked matchmaking in #HaloInfinite closely. Next Tuesday, we're excited to roll out updates to our current system and reset CSR ranks in matchmaking. Learn more about the upcoming changes on Waypoint!

Community manager John Junyszek noted that developer 343 Industries “has been analyzing real matches since launch” and “these learnings [live data] will help the system become even better at assessing player skills” to place them more accurately between skill distributions from here on.

When the new update rolls out though, all players will have their Competitive Skill Ranking (CSR) ranks reset so that “everyone can get an updated CSR that is more indicative of their skill” in Halo Infinite. The updated CSR though will place players a whole tier below their current ranks.

“Since we saw that the CSR system was being overly generous since launch, these changes are being rolled out to help bring things closer in line to where they should be,” explained Junyszek. “This period led to a full tier inflation of ranks and, as a result, most players should expect to be placed a full tier lower (Diamond players will find themselves in Platinum, Platinum players will find themselves in Gold, etc.) after this rank reset.”

343 Industries will be rolling out the ranked matchmaking update next week on February 22, 2022. With this, the developer will continue to monitor matches and how ranked players are progressing. The multiplayer community should hence expect more of such updates down the road to keep the system “up to date with the latest player behaviors.”

Last weekend, many players had gone online with complaints about a broken ranked matchmaking system. They were being placed in uneven matches with average-ranked players going up against highly skilled ones. 343 Industries took immediate notice of the problem and resolved the crisis by the start of the week.

The root cause had not been shared, but it had been pointed out that the problem was not part of the matchmaking improvements which were introduced a day before.

Halo has been at the forefront of the gaming world for the last two decades now. The iconic gaming franchise has given us some memorable moments and has valiantly served as Xbox’s flagship series since the launch of the original console.

As such, it should come as no surprise that many fans have been influenced by the franchise, with one gamer even managing to create an electric guitar based on one of the most recognisable weapons in the games. This is the content we’re here for.

Obviously, a major part of the Halo series is the wide variety of weapons and vehicles we can take hold of. As the series has evolved, so has the weapon roster, with assualt rifles, plasma pistols, needlers and many more making their introduction to the series at some point. Each one has its own unique design that any Halo fan would spot from a mile off. But how exactly do you transform one melee weapon into an electric guitar? Well, check out it right here.

Looks pretty incredible, doesn’t it? The Instagram User,  Kevin Nathan,  proudly showed off his tribute to Halo, and its certainly kicked up a storm. It encapsulates precisely how the swords look in-game, but manages to maintain a light blue colour in the dark also. Not only this, but the fact the guitar is fully functional too makes it just that more impressive!

It’s undoubtedly fascinating how people can be so imaginative with these things. It just goes to show the stretch of Halo’s influence upon gaming culture, and the series only looks to keep improving. With the new Halo Infinite receiving great reviews, an upcoming series on its way and surprise praise from a famous movie director there really is no limit on how long the franchise can go on for. Long may that continue!

The power of Halo 3 is a curious thing. Make one man weep. Make a bratty kid scream racial slurs down the microphone. But, in a shocking twist of fate, we’ll be talking about a little nugget of wholesome goodness. A fable of star-cross’d gamer-bros!

Online access to Halo 3 servers has recently shut down for Xbox 360 players, so I’m legally and morally required by The Church of Orthodox Gamers to press F to pay respects.

What’s worse is that the campaign mode was even playable with up to 3 other players with online play, so that opens up a whole other can of worms with “hey, game’s preservation is a big deal in some circles, but what about discontinued online features”? Food for thought.

Story Time: A Reddit post to r/halo by one TheYoungCalves (henceforth ‘Calvin’ for brevity’s sake) revealed a message sent to their father who played with them while using the tag ‘Golden Ox’. Calvin sent a screenshot of the message from a fellow player and rival of theirs shortly after the servers shut down.

And now, the state-mandated anti-corporate roasting power hour: 343 Industries announced the closing of Xbox 360 servers for old Halo games in December, after 14 years of online play. In a shocking twist of fate not at all foreshadowed in this paragraph’s subtitle, it seems closing the servers was motivated by money, as you’ll have to buy  ‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ if you want to access the online modes of past Halo games.

I mean, I’m not saying that getting multiple games for the price of one is bad, but those slopes are looking pretty slippery as far as gaming preservation is concerned!

‘Halo 3 on 360 was more to a lot of us than just a game, maps, or modes. It had a social aspect that hadn’t been matched by any 343 endeavor, with pre and post game lobbies, custom games and forge at launch, etc. It launched before Discord, before even voice parties were big, so those pre and post game lobbies were always energetic. You made friends and enemies quick, and they’d stick with you sometimes for years and years’ –I_Like_Halo_Games, Professional Redditteer.

To celebrate the festive season, a new themed event has been added to Halo Infinite. This event will be based around the holiday season  and brings some new content to Halo Infinite. During Winter Contingency, players will be able to advance through a free battle pass and gain armour, weapon skins, and other cosmetics, similar to the Fracture: Tenrai event.

The event was announced yesterday in a Twitter post on the official Halo page.

The event, dubbed “Winter Contingency,” will run a little longer than Halo Infinite’s previous event, Fracture: Tenrai, which lasted only a week. The Winter Contingency will begin on December 21 and end on January 4, 2022.  The second week of the Fracture: Tenrai event is set to begin on January 4, 2022.

Players will be able to gain cosmetics by just playing a game each day. Moving through the game’s pass and collecting stuff that way should be easier because to Halo Infinite’s new challenge modifications, as discussed in a recent Halo Waypoint post.

A recent update for Halo Infinite insured that players will see more event challenges in their queue, in addition to removing or adjusting the complexity of a number of the game’s challenges. However, there will be a limited number of tasks for players to complete, so it’s possible that you might not be able to complete the entire pass.

While reaction to Halo infinites Multiplayer and single player has been mostly positive, one thing that has not been as well received is the games monetization. The games multiplayer component is free to play, and the game’s battle passes are permanent, but the XP rates for the battle pass being tied to challenges and the high price of skins in the store have been heavily criticized.

A quick glance over at the Halo Subreddit Shows that many are dissatisfied with the prices of items in the game. u/boxops (linked below) Points out that a single Helmet costs $20, while another commenter further down said that they would happily have paid full price for the multiplayer if it meant a return to the traditional unlock system.

While 343 have don’t a lot to quickly address a lot of Players criticism of the game, such as Devoted slayer playlists and fixing the battle pass progression somewhat, the studio has remained deafly silent about changes to the store. It can be argued that the pricing of items in Halo infinites store is not too far off from pricing in other games, however this is a new feature for the halo series and some fans are, understandable, unhappy. For a comparison point, Destiny 2 (a game developed by the same people who made the original halo games), charges $20 for 2300 Silver (an in game currency). the amount can be exchanged for an entire cosmetic set for armour, plus leaving you with about 800 Silver left over, were as in halo infinite this would only get you a helmet.

With all this being said, in the wake of a recent shutdown of the Halo Subreddit, it does need to be said that while it is ok to want change in the game, it is not ok to abuse the developers online.

Ah, 343, you’re gonna make me cry.

Halo Infinite’s campaign includes a hidden Easter egg that pays tribute to the original Xbox. This is a lovely touch by the developer, 343 Industries, and a very cool one at that, if I may say so myself.

As seen in the video below from user xGarbett, the Easter egg would be almost impossible to find if you weren’t actively looking for it. Tucked away in the roof of a structure in the southern part of the map is a small hole between some stone and steel, and it’s there that you’ll want to aim your Grappleshot and pull yourself up to. What you’ll find is a small room basking in the green glow of an original Xbox console and period-accurate TV/monitor. It’s a pretty bare-bones setup, featuring a utilitarian crate as a desk and a few folding chairs as seats, but it looks like a suitable place to gather a few friends for some multiplayer fun.

This is just one of many Halo Infinite Easter eggs players are finding, but it’s probably the most appropriate given Xbox‘s 20th anniversary this year.

In other news, October and November have seen some big next-gen titles released, including Call of Duty: Vanguard, Battlefield 2042, FIFA 22, Far Cry 6, and Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. Halo Infinite has received some criticism recently over the lack of multiplayer playlists. Well, the Slayer-only playlist is “officially locked and loaded for the update next week,” according to a Reddit post by 343 Industries developer u/ske7ch343.

Updates Coming to Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer Playlists

They went on to say that on Tuesday, December 14th, four new playlists will be added to the game: Slayer, Fiesta, FFA, and Tactical Slayer (SWAT).

The post also hinted at more modifications to the challenge system on the way.

“Next week’s update will also include adjustments to challenges, including  removing some particularly  frustrating mode-specific ones, reducing some requirements for others, making the weekly ultimate challenge less intensive.”

“Personally, I’m eager to check out the new challenge category based on accumulating player score (a small initial step toward ‘performance-based XP’),” he continued. Next week, we’ll have additional information to share on Halo Waypoint.”

It was recently uncovered that several hidden modes for Halo Infinite’s multiplayer could be accessed by playing the game offline.

The full list of hidden game modes are:

It’s presently unknown when the remaining game modes will cycle into the game’s online multiplayer mode. As the game’s first limited-time mode during the Fractured Tenai event, Fiesta Slayer, a variation of Slayer in which players spawn with a random weapon each time. This is a good mode for adding some fun diversity, but not for those wanting a more competitive experience.

Here we go people, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. In recent months, 343 have left us in the lurk for how big the download size is going to be for the hotly anticipated Halo Infinite Campaign.

It came as much disappointment when news surfaced that Halo Infinite will not have pre-load support. Instead of being able to jump straight into the action, we’ll have to wait for the game to install. As any gamer knows, this can be painstakingly long so we’ve been desperate to find out how many more hours we’d have to wait. Finally, we’ve received the news first hand so we can put our minds at rest.

In their latest tweet, 343 Industries have provided a breakdown of the install size. It states that “Players who have downloaded the Multiplayer Beta will have a smaller download size”. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as they’ll be looking to treat the hardcore fans first we suppose. Not only this, but the file sizes will differ depending on what platform you will be using. Once again, this isn’t too much of a shock really is it? The hardware of the Xbox One and Xbox Series X vary massively, so this was to be expected.

Halo Infinite Campaign Size Comparison

It’s not as bad as we were all expecting, is it? To download both the Campaign and multiplayer it’s approximately 48.42 GB. Unfortunately, it’s currently unknown how big of an update the physical copies will be as Halo Infinite doesn’t fit on one disc. Stay tuned for more information on that when we have it.

In the meantime, just be prepared for a great Halo adventure once more! It’s been quite some time since we got a last one so we can’t wait to delve into one. Here’s the official description of the game below:

It seems that everyone’s getting a live action adaptation nowadays! First we receive a divisive trailer for the upcoming Uncharted film, then a little news about a Mass Effect series and now we’ve reached Microsoft’s crown jewel, Halo, getting its own show too. Not only this, but we don’t have to wait too long to see the trailer for the Halo series either!

After the recent launch of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer mode, it looks like Halo-mania is taking over the internet once more. We’ve seen famous sports teams get involved, the game go straight onto the Xbox Game Pass and even a Swarovski Crystal replica of Master Chief’s helmet. It’s safe to say that the Halo-hype has been nothing short of spectacular. However, it looks like 343 Industries is looking to enhance the excitement with the first trailer of its Halo live-action series, which is scheduled to debut during The Game Awards 2021.

Whilst Microsoft treated us with a little teaser trailer a few weeks ago, this’ll be the first full length trailer for the show. Check out the announcement tweet down below:

Halo Franchise First Venture Into Live Action Universe

We certainly cannot wait for more information on this one! Unsurprisingly, it looks like the game awards are going to be a must-watch again this year, especially with another major franchise giving out details there too. On the other hand, what do we actually know about this upcoming series? Could it follow over live-action game adaptations and become a major flop? Or is this going to take the path of The Witcher franchise and be a fantastic hit? Only time will tell.

What we do know is that the series will supposedly be focused upon a 26th-century war between the United Nations Space Command and the alien Covenant. Additionally, it will be starring Pablo Schreiber, Natascha McElhone, Charlie Murphy, Jen Taylor, Shabana Azmi, Bokeem Woodbine, Kate Kennedy, Natasha Cluzac, Yerin Ha and Bentley Kalu. Quite the list there right?

Unfortunately, the series had previously gone through development hell before being picked up by Paramount. At one point, it was even supposed to be produced by acclaimed Hollywood director Steven Spielberg, before those plans fell through. Subsequently, Rupert Wyatt came in to take the helm with the show scheduled for a 2020 release. This also collapsed so it is now currently planned to air in 2022 with Otto Bathurst as producer. What a rollercoaster of a ride its been so far, and that’s before we’ve even seen a trailer!

Paramount+ will be the ones streaming the show, so let’s just hope its going to deliver! In the meantime, make sure to check out our store to see the other game of the year nominees there!

Halo Infinite launches on December 8th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It appears that it won’t be the only thing keeping Halo fans occupied before the end of the year, as developer 343 Industries has confirmed that more fan-favorite modes will be returning to the game’s online playlists.

New Modes Coming to Halo Infinite!

Playlists for Fiesta, Tactical Slayer (SWAT), and Free-For-All modes should be ready by the end of the year, according to Halo community manager John Junyszek.

SWAT is a long-time favourite Halo mode  amongst fans that removes your shields and motion tracker while issuing you with a “hitscan” weapon like the battle rifle (projectiles that hit instantly and have no travel time). As a result, the play style is intense, with a single shot having the potential to be fatal.

Fiesta, on the other hand, starts players with a random weapon combination. That goes for any weapon, so you might get lucky respawn with a rocket launcher and an energy sword or a plasma pistol and a battle rifle. It’s a more casual mode that we already had a taste of during the Tenai event.Free-for-All is as expected, with everyone battling it out amongst themselves.

Multiplayer in Halo Infinite

While having Halo Infinite’s multiplayer out before of the story is good, the quantity of modes available to play left me wanting a lot more.

Slayer, Oddball, Capture The Flag, and Strongholds are the only game types accessible in regular matchmaking . There’s also three Big Team Battle modes available in another playlis. While the majority of these are a lot of fun and have a wide range of objectives, it doesn’t provide enough variety. The same game types appear too much. The randomness of them too makes it hard to meet certain challenge objectives for experience.

Having the option to vary things up with additional returning game options will keep things interesting. More control over which game modes we are playing will make levelling the battle pass up easier too.

It’s a good  upgrade to Halo Infinite’s multiplayer before the year ends. Other iconic modes like Forge and the co-op campaign are still a little way off. Hopefully 343 Industries will continue to update the game and listen to player feedback in the meantime though.

Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer is currently available for free on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC. The full game will release on December 8th.
