Nintendo Updated Their Animal Crossing Island ‘Ninten’ With New Items

Nintendo’s Island by the name of ‘Ninten’ has finally been updated and while doesn’t look insanely different, Nintendo has added some new animal crossing 2.0 items, such as Gyroids, food items, Nookmile items, ladder set-up kits, custom fencing, furniture and much more. While not much has been changed, it’s nice to see that the island is still being used, maintained and cared for.

Super Mario 3D-All Stars (Nintendo Switch) Buy Now

In their Super Mario themed area, Nintendo has made use of the ladder set up kit to make the cliffs a fun part of their obstacle course, while you make your way through from start to finish, Nintendo has made it imperative players make use of the ladders or they can’t make it towards the end.

Here, we can see they’ve made great use of the new food items in Animal Crossing New Horizons, it’s a simple, yet organised farm. The crops grown here includes: Potatoes, Carrots, Sugar Cane, Pumpkins and Tomatoes and wheat.

This home entrance is interesting as Nintendo has made use of the custom fencing, pot planters and tomato plants to add some colour. This is a very simple, yet effective way to add a little pop to the island. The purple fencing is definitely very unique and would look amazing on any island players that are going for a ‘fairy-core’ island or a purple ‘cottagecore’ island.

Outside of the Museum, they’ve made lovely use of custom designs. The banners on their streetlamps happen to be Tom Nook, one of the most loved NPC’s in the Animal Crossing Franchise. (And before you ask, yes we checked the Museum for Brewster. No, you can’t drink coffee in a dream).

Last, but not least! Gyroids! How could they forget such an important part of Animal Crossing franchise? Sitting on adorable Super Mario themed mushrooms, we have these adorable gyroids that dance in time to the music.

The dream address code for Nintendo’s Island is DA-6382-1459-4417. You can visit the island by sleeping in your bed at home and going to sleep, then you will enter the dream suite. Please note: You need a Nintendo Online Membership to use the dream suite’s features.  There you will meet Luna, who will guide you on what to do next. From there, you will type in the dream address code to visit the island.

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing New Horizons Island is ‘Simple-Core’.

Which isn’t a bad thing, not to say that it wasn’t hard work to build that island or that it was a ‘simple’ thought process to make.

The island looks fantastic and while it isn’t aesthetically matching by colour, have coordinated symmetry or has a specific island theme they are shooting for, the island perfectly captures the essence of Nintendo, which is creativity, being content with your own ideas. I call it ‘Simple-core’.

Many players have been wrapped around the idea of having the perfect island, trying to have a specific ‘core’ which is amazing to have! However, it’s also good to remember that islands don’t have to be extravagant or themed to be amazing, even the simpler things and just the existence of the player’s creativity is good enough to make the island beautiful.

Nintendo has just updated the Mario Kart Live Home Circuit, local multiplayer now has a ‘split screen’ feature, which means players can view their opponents POV with one TV and One Nintendo Switch.

This has been requested by fans for a while considering the fact that before the update, fans could not play with their family or friends without the individual owning a Nintendo Switch, which would have made it difficult for siblings who live in the same home to play with each other.

What is Mario Kart Live?

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, is an AR-Mario Kart game where players can use a physical mini-Kart from the Mario Kart franchise to race around any home while using the Nintendo Switch on a specific track made by the players. Nintendo Switch Online Has Taken Nintendo Switch Users By Storm

Starting off with only 9 million Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers in 2019 and jumping to 15 million in early 2020 and 26 million in late 2020, there has been a significant leap in 2021, with 32 million Nintendo Switch Online users.

At the last Nintendo Switch Direct, they announced an N64 expansion pack as part of the Nintendo Switch Online membership, which includes a library of N64 games ported to the Nintendo Switch, such as Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and many more old-time classics, with the notorious, soon to be added is Paper Mario.

At the Animal Crossing New Horizons Direct, Nintendo added a lot of new features that many fans were excited for,  Happy Home Paradise DLC included in the Expansion pack and Nintendo Switch Online.  For those who didn’t already have Nintendo Switch online, the expansion pack turned out to be a pretty good deal at approximately £24 on offer over the weekend. For those who planned to buy  the Happy Home Paradise DLC, that was also a great deal considering the actual DLC was £22.

The expansion pack includes Happy Home Paradise, Nintendo Switch Online and The N64 pack for less than £34.99 which happens to be the original price for  Nintendo Switch Online with the expansion pack.

Furthermore, fans of Paper Mario have constantly complained over these years over Nintendo’s Paper Mario creations since The Thousand Year Door, (personally I’ve enjoyed them, besides sticker star and colour splash…) the Nintendo DS creations were upsetting to fans and the Nintendo Wii had made fans feel perplexed, despite the great story, they found it strange for the game to be a platformer.

Overall, they just wanted the original lay out and original turn-based battle system. Some fans had mixed feelings about Paper Mario the Origami King due to the Puzzle – turn based battle system, however many fans still found the playthrough to be entertaining, with loveable characters and a lovely story.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that fans (like myself) yearn for the nostalgia of The Thousand Year Door and Paper Mario N64, which is one of the games that has Nintendo fans wanting to buy the expansion pack to access the upcoming Paper Mario as part of the N64 collection.

The September 2021 Nintendo Direct had some exciting news for its fanbase this year. Everyone’s favourite pair of Italian plumbers are hitting the big screens, along with the rest of the smash bro’s friends and enemies.

The studio working on the animation for the feature-length film is Illumination, the production company behind the loveable super-villain Gru in Despicable Me and his little yellow friends.

Anything more than a ‘yippee’ or a ‘wahoo’ from the brothers in the games is a rarity. So to hear their voices spoke through the likes of Chris Pratt as Mario (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Charlie Day as Luigi (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Horrible Bosses) being cast as the pair it should make for a hilarious film, or weird we’ll see.

Both with comedic backgrounds their sure to integrate their sense of humour into the roles. Toad, the mini mushroom man, is played by actor and comedian Keegan Michael Key, making an exhilarating trio of comedians. The inside of the recording studio with these three would be comedy gold.

Don’t worry; the rest of the cast is just as exciting with Anya Taylor (The Queens Gambit, Peaky Blinders) as Peach. Mostly known for her serious roles in dramas, and perhaps that’s why she was cast.

Jack Black (Tenacious D, King Kong) will be playing Bowser, a fitting role for the entertainer, while Seth Rogan (Pineapple Express, Superbad) will be playing Donkey Kong.

No footage or voice acting is released yet, and the plot for the movie is yet to be seen, but if there’s one thing for sure is that you can place a bet on Bowser whisking Peach away from Mario and his pals at some point, for Mario and co to save her from peril.

A diverse, star-studded cast have the opportunity to portray one of the most famous teams of video game characters of all time, so all being well, it will be good or at least better than the last attempt.

It’s Mario Time!

Yes, we have not one but two brand new watch deals coming from two major Japanese franchises, although one is far more expensive than the other.

Mario x TAG Heuer

Any Nintendo fan will know that the company has always kept a very close hold of its IP. Yet in recent years, Nintendo has been loosening that grip slightly, with a new Mario movie, mobile games, and a brand new theme park being the latest in a whole line of IP.

Now, Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer is teaming up with everyone’s favourite Italian plumber for a limited edition smartwatch.

The Mario smartwatch will be a limited edition of TAG’s Connected Wear OS smartwatch that dropped last April.

The hardware of the watch will be identical, but the design will feature an M-for-Mario on its crown and will come with a red strap and a black strap and a watch case in “Super Mario Red”. The watch will also feature little Mario animations that will play as you hit various step goals throughout the day, giving the watch a “gamify” effect.

There are four new Mario watch faces too, including the Timekeeping dial which uses “retro elements from the 1985 version of Super Mario Bros. with Mario, all in pixels”. The watch has a 45mm face, water-resistant up to 5ATM, and has a 430mAh battery that can last up to a full day depending on how much you use the GPS and heart monitor.

The Price…

Just going to have to give it to you straight: it’s $2,150 (£1,553).

That’s the equivalent of 6 new OLED Nintendo Switches or 5 Apple Watch Series 6s.

There is a reason for this (kind of?) as only 2000 units are being made, but if you already have a TAG Connected watch, the company are thinking of adding the animated features available at a later stage, so you might not need to buy an upgrade.

More details about the Mario smartwatch is expected to drop on July 15.

There’s now a chance to play this beloved retro game in a widescreen aspect ratio!

SNES ROM hacker Vitor Vilela has created a new widescreen hack that enables players to enjoy Super Mario World on a modern display. Players can say goodbye to the black bars and weirdly stretched image and be refamiliarised with the retro game that introduced us to Yoshi back in 1990.

The hack modifies the original game’s ROM when played through the bnes_hd emulator and adjusts the screen size from 256×224 to 352×224, giving the correct aspect ratio for a 16:9 display. It also supports a 16:10 aspect ratio and there are plans for it to support an ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio in the future.

The instructions for how to use the hack can be found on the project’s GitHub page, however, players will have to find their own Super Mario World ROM to use it. Nintendo has a harsh history of suing websites carrying ROMs of its games, yet this ROM has been created with keeping away from all copyright code in mind. 

The ROM hacker Vitor Vilela spoke to RetroRGB back in March and has hinted there’s hope to develop a standard hack that can be applied across all SNES games. Another developer ocesse is currently working on a widescreen hack for the game Super Metroid.

Once Super Mario World and Super Metroid widescreen patches are done, we will likely have a solid standard which future ROM modders will be able to apply to any SNES game. That’s our objective. Any SNES game will be able to be adapted through ROM patches to use widescreen on the future once the project is stabilized. – Vitor Vilela, RetroRGB

So far the ROM Hacker has received some bug reports from users, however, they deem the bugs to be pretty visual and no crashing or breaking bugs have been detected, therefore the current vision is stable and safe to play.

With the amazing news that Mario will be introduced to a new platform, there has been some not so amazing news for VR fans. Miyamoto thinks that Mario does not really fit in with virtual reality. Personally it has been my dream to see lie through Mario’s eyes.

Miyamoto made an amazing surprise appearance at Apple iPhone 7’s conference to announce this brilliant news. This will be the first time ever for Mario to make his appearance on a mobile game for iOS. However, even though Nintendo are embracing phones for a new platform for these classic games to continue on. It seems Miyamoto is less enthusiastic about Mario and other Nintendo characters to step in to the virtual reality world.

Miyamoto then went on and told USA Today that:

“I would agree that adapting Mario to new platforms is a key to keeping him relevant,” “But we want families to play together, and virtual reality doesn’t really fit well there. We also like people playing for a long time, and it’s hard to do that in VR.”

YouTuber aryoksini has recently uploaded a video of Mario looking better than ever and running on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4. The footage of Mario exploring various environments looks superb and makes you wonder if its a sign of what’s to come when the Nintendo NX is released in the future.

aryoksini writes in the description, “all the environment assets were taken from the Unreal marketplace, all the character actions were scripted using blueprints only, all animations were re-created from scratch as well as the PBR ready textures.” Take a look at the brilliant video:
