A Brief Summary of Fall Guys: Fall Guys is a free-to-play online multiplayer game where you and a bunch of other like-minded psychos compete in Takeshi’s Castle style games including obstacle course races and team games of varying quality. The game has recently started it’s sixth season, meaning for a limited time only (usually a few months), you can buy a season pass that lets you unlock a bunch of cutesy cosmetic outfits for your Titular Fall Guy, Fall Girl, or Fall Enbie!

Alternatively, do what I do and just play the game a tonne to get a handful of the free items that aren’t cordoned off by the paywall!

In other news! The folks at Mediatonic recently made it so players can link their Epic Games accounts to their Fall Guy profile to allow for cross-progression. An Epic Games account to play Fall Guys may be mandatory now, but that’s so that you can keep your in-game progression on your profile while being able to use it across multiple platforms. For example: Let’s say Timmy Two-Consoles wants to play Fall Guys on his PS5, but did too much grinding when playing it on PS4. Well, rather than starting a new game and grinding all over again on PS5, Timmy Two-Consoles can use his Epic Games account login to port his progress from one console to another! This also works for cross-platform play on Xbox, Switch and PC. Bob’s your uncle, fanny’s your aunt! Unless you’re me, in which case, Bob’s my aunt!

Fall Guys has also included a Fiesta Show that lets players gain extra experience points that help unlock items in the Season Pass. The Fiesta Show includes 5 brand spanking new obstacle courses and the show playlist will be available December 6th.

Housemarque, the Finnish game studio behind Returnal recently posted a teaser image of what seems to be a partly-cracked statue of someone in otherworldly armor with the caption ‘Atropos…?’. Atropos is a planet in the game world of Returnal, which seemingly learned from the ‘Revengeance’ school of title naming. Click on the first Returnal link above if you want to get your own copy for PS5.

Returnal has seen multiple updates and patches since it’s April release, but nothing quite as spectacular as teleporting police or server-wide trading post bans. The most recent 2.0 update came out last month, which has added a couple quality of life improvements like the ability to suspend your in-game progress when closing the game and a photo mode. Speaking of photo modes-

I myself enjoy fiddling with the filters and environment lenses in the photo modes of The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima (psst, which we have), so please explain to me why these “photo” modes don’t have the option for you to take a screenshot of your masterfully-rendered in-game background art built in! Do I look like I know how the share button works!? I don’t even know how to work the online multiplayer for Broforce despite beating it multiple times!

Housemarque has recently been acquired by Sony in June, so needless to say, future projects from Housemarque (be it on Returnal or otherwise) will likely have a fair amount of backing.

As the only person my age in the known universe who has seen History of The World Part 1, I feel emboldened to share the following paraphrased quote: The servant waits while the Sifu baits.

Sifu’s release has been brought forward to February 8th 2022 as shown in this gameplay-update-trailer-thingamadoodle! It was originally going to come on the 22nd (and late this year before that), but considering Elden Ring’s release set for the 25th of 2022, the devs likely didn’t want to have to compete with another of the most hyped games of the year.

What is Sifu? I’m so glad I asked! Sifu is an epic-looking Kung-Fu action game complete with motion-capture animations for full immersion letting you live out your deepest Ip Man meets Groundhog Day fantasies! I say Groundhog Day because each death makes the player character “age”. For example, let’s say you start off as a K-Pop twink who’s questing across various cool environments kicking names and taking ass. A couple gameplay hours later, you then get ganked on by Beefy Bert and his squad of goons because it turns out you can’t rely on the same 69-hit combo to carry you against every enemy encounter. One Game Over screen later and boom, now you graduated from twink to twunk with a five-o’clock shadow and possibly the rumblings of Dad-bod. Though dying isn’t all bad, any Kill Bill fans may relish the chance to play as a Pai Mei-looking bloke… Fun fact, Pai Mei looks a hell of a lot like Seijun Suzuki: B-movie auteur and mind-brain explordinaire.

Considering the Elden Ring resolution and performance info, the pre-order bonuses (wink wink, nudge nudge, got em here), the 20 minute gameplay preview and the confirmed February 25th release date, it’s been a good month for Elden Ring hype lately!

The good folks at FromSoftware have released some pre-release tips and tricks for stealth and combat, but I’m an artiste, I fancy myself a bit of an auteur at the best of times and in the words of legendary director Tuentin Quarantino, “good artists steal”! So in a loving homage to Windette (a favourite YouTuber you may remember from my article on Gaming YouTubers), sit down and strap on for Elden Ring gameplay tips… Explained in Insults Edition!

Part Won… The Plot- It must be your lucky day because Elden Ring has implemented a crouching mechanic for stealth purposes, but let’s not mince words, that thing might as well be renamed The Never Finding Titanite foundation, or NFT’s for short– MUCH LIKE YOUR PEEN! And thank goodness I don’t have to handhold you throughout the open world because even the developers predicted how your namby pamby booter patooter needs “Grace’s Guidance”, a Ghost of Tsushima-style way of nudging the player in the right direction.

These rays of sunshine will help direct you to Sites of Grace, the in-game equivalent to bonfires and resting spots you use to recoup your health. If the Elden Ring preview’s anything to go by, majestic flame-beastial flighty f*ck-masters of galactic destruction CAN AND WILL be roaming the map looking for fresh (or in your case, soiled) meat! So rest when you find one and don’t be afraid to trek off the beaten path if your Tinybox-Tim-looking ass is getting handed to you one too many times. Good? Good!

Part Too… Stelf: Hiding in grass provides the one-two combonus of hiding you in plain sight from enemies AND increasing your damage for stealth kills from behind and above because any enemy that has to stare down your ugly mug before dying would probably come back to haunt your ass for revenge!

The Shattering tainted these lands with chaos. Even a traveler who follows the path of grace must be cunning and cautious in equal measures.

Pawt Free: Comb-at? Honey. Baby. Darling. LIGHT OF MY LIFE, I’m not gonna hurt ya. I’m just gonna use stance-breaking on you and score a critical hit as a result. “Charge attacks and jump attacks make it particularly easy to break an enemy’s stance” according to FromSoftware. I see you Sekiro fans in the back nodding, but don’t unclench your cheeks till you can parry the magical equivalent of an atom bomb with your pinky toe! The fact that your extra Boss Gauntlet mode familiarity functions like the Elden Ring “Stake of Marika” statues that act as respawn points after boss battles is completely luck-based! Back in my day, we had to run up a mile-high winding staircase with arrows reducing our pelvic thrustal performance and by extension, having lost half a health bar before even beginning to sign the death waver for an ensuing boss fight!

Elden Ring  will release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

2. Nier Replicant

Nier Replicant is an emotional JRPG set in the year 3465 and is about a young boy who’s on a quest to save his sister from a disease known as the ‘black scrawl’ and is on the search for the ‘sealed verses’ while uncovering all the secrets that lie behind it.

The soundtrack in NieR Replicant is godsent, it’s just as beautiful as NieR: Automata’s soundtrack and completely captures every little emotion from the characters to the supporting characters, the viewers, the dialogue and even the environment. Everyone is a witness and through the music, NieR Replicant makes everyone a part of guilt, happiness, loss and love, including the player.

4. Ghost of Tsushima Direct’s Cut

Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure RPG set in 1274, during a Mongolian invasion on the Japanese island of Tsushima. You play as a resident named Jin Sakai who join the rest of the island’s army to rebel against those who invaded their island. Now, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is based around Jin facing his traumatic past at Iki Island.

The soundtrack in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut feels very authentic for the time it’s set in, the game has a traditional and nostalgic undertone. The music captures the beauty of loss, hope, chaos, anguish and fear, all in one place. It’s definitely at the top of our list.

Following on from Tuesday’s post which you can read here, Sony and Sucker Punch Productions have addressed ESRB rating Ghost of Tsushima; Director’s Cut by announcing the game, its content and its release date, and boy did the rumours (and a few leaks online) hit the nail on the head.

The ESRB had classified the new version of the game for PS4 and PS5, with very little extra information about what we could expect. Now, we have full details about what’s in store for the title, which is to be released on August 20.

What does Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut have in store for us?

Sucker Punch Productions is certainly a fitting name as they’ve packed a punch for what’s in store with the new and updated version. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will include the original game, all the previously released Sucker Punch Productions content, and a new island to explore as part of the Iki Island expansion (the rumours were correct again).

Ikishima, or Iki Island, is a neighbouring island to Tsushima and it will add a new chapter to Jin Sakai’s adventure, yet the details of the storyline are being kept secret. Players can expect new environments, new armour, new techniques, and more.

New PS5 Features

The PS5 version will have other additions such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, 3D audio, improved load times, different 4K resolution options, and targeted 60 fps. New players for the PS5 version will also find they have lip sync for both the English and Japanese voice-overs (Daisuke Tsuji and Kazuya Nakai lend their voices to Jin Sakai perfectly). Your saved file from the PS4 will transfer over to the PS5 if you choose to upgrade.

Prices for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

This is where it gets a little complicated as there are different prices for different upgrading options when pre-ordering the game.

There are no UK prices yet, but here’s a rough estimation from the US prices.

PS4 players can pre-order an upgrade for $19.99 (around £15), PS4 players that get the Director’s Cut but what to upgrade to the PS5 version can upgrade for $9.99 (around £7), and PS4 players that want to upgrade straight to the PS5 version will have to pay $29.99 (around £22).

If you have not yet bought the games, the price for the PS4 version will be $60 (around £45) and the PS5 version will be $70 (around £50).

Sucker Punch Productions also announced there will be updates to their multiplayer mode, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. They didn’t cover much information regarding this apart from the fact these updates will be made available to all players with no additional charge.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut has been classified by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) for PS4 and PS5, despite not being announced anywhere else.

Sucker Punch Productions seem to have another version of the record-breaking game under wraps thanks to this potential leak online from the ESRB. It recently classified Death Stranding: Director’s Cut for PS5 before any announcement was made, so this update feels very promising indeed.

The Success of Ghost of Tsushima

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past year (or don’t have access to a PS4 like me and have to suffer), Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world action title that was released exclusively on PS4 in July 2020. It centres around samurai Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of his clan, who must wage war against the invading Mongols and free the island of Tsushima. It sold 2.4 million copies globally in the first few days of its release, marking a new record of an original IP launch for Sony.

What we can expect from Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

At the moment… not a lot.

The ESRB classification gives no insight into what will be different with the updated version, however, there have been rumours of a stand-alone expansion called Ghost of Ikishima floating around that could fit perfectly into a Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut bundle.

Since all the added bonus content from Ghost of Tsushima have all been free so far, including the online cooperative multiplayer mode that was added last October, these Ghost of Ikishima rumours would make sense and would explain why Sony has since registered a domain for the game online.

As stated above, Ghost of Ikishima is expected to be a stand-alone expansion that will see players experience a much shorter adventure set on the smaller island of the same name that is next to Tsushima.

Although these are all just rumours and speculations so far, it is exciting to see what Sucker Punch Productions has in store with the new updated version and what fans can anticipate from this piece of news. Fans are also looking forward to the live-action movie based on the game that was greenlit by Sony back in March, which will be directed by Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick.
