Overwatch Anniversary Remix event returns for round 2 introducing new styles, colours and fan favourite skins!

The first Overwatch 2 Beta test window has closed. The Beta that was available for several weeks allowed players to test run and try “Overwatch Hero Reworks” which brought new maps and game design elements into the fray. To keep momentum and interest in the game high, a new round in the Overwatch Anniversary Remix event is already well underway that will introduce new versions of some of Overwatch’s most memorable costumes and outfits.

The “Overwatch Anniversary Remix Vol. 2” event returns on [ May 17th – June 7th ] bringing with it brand new colour variations to 6 previously released skins while also bringing back remixed skins from “Overwatch Anniversary Remix Vol. 1” again. The new alternate outfits on offer include Black Wolf Hanzo ( Okami Legendary Skin ), Hydra Symmetra ( Dragon Symmetra Legendary Skin ), Neon Cat Sombra ( Black Cat Legendary Skin ), Night Owl Ana ( Snow Owl Legendary Skin ), Poison Dart Lucio ( Ribbit Lucio Legendary Skin ) and Noxious Roadhog ( Toxic Roadhog Legendary Skin ).

Previous Weekly Challenge Skins will make a welcome return like the Remix event, as well as remixed skins, previous seasonal event game modes from Winter Wonderland, Overwatch Archives, this year’s Chinese New Year “Year of the Tiger” celebrations, and other seasonal brawl and PvE modes like “Yeti Hunt” and “LucioBall” and more on daily rotation. Not just new events but new themed emotes and sprays will also make a welcome return if you have earned enough coins to obtain the reward.

1988’s “AKIRA” is iconic. It’s probably the most Iconic anime film to ever release, save maybe “Ghost in the Shell” or “Spirted away”. The Cyberpunk bosozuku gang film has gone on to inspire numerous works, with no single shot being more Iconic than “the bike slide”

Appearing as part of the films “clown fight sequence”, the original shot sees Protagonist Kaneda bringing his iconic red Motorbike to a stop be skidding into frame parallel to the camera. This show became instantly Iconic and has been referenced numerous times since. However one property which does not have a reference to it is Overwatch.

Its not like overwatch has never referenced anime Either, including other iconic 80s anime, such as Fist of the north star with Mcree, sorry, Cassidy (not gonna get used to that ever), or Echo referencing the aforementioned “ghost in the shell” in one of their sprays.

Ashe Highlight Intro Concept: I think the classic Akira bike slide could be created as a highlight Intro for Ashe (or Cassidy, who steals it in “Reunion”) from Overwatch

However, recently one reddit user, Yeeojj poster a piece of fanart that suggests a highlight intro for Ashe (or Cassidy) that references the bike slide. Ashe has motorbike (although Cassidy did steal it in a short) so its not like its the most out there suggestion.

Is this likely to happen? Probably not. What with development of overwatch 2 being the main project for the overwatch team right now, combined with the Recent microsoft acquisition, I think blizzard have other things on their minds.

I’m back in black baby! Which is to say, I’m reporting on recent statements from Overwatch 2 staff regarding how Bobby Kotick contributed to slowing down development.

In the immortal words of Shaun Andjen, “I may not know much about fine art, but I do know how to kick a man when he’s down“.

Tracy Kennedy (Professional Rhyming Name-Haver), a producer on Overwatch 1&2, opened up recently regarding issues developers were facing, largely caused by Bobby Kotick (Professional Trash-Mammal). So, let’s unpack this, shall we?

Monsieur Kotique would reportedly repeatedly ‘shove “random projects for OW1″‘ for the devs working on Overwatch 2. This contributed to resources being spread thinner than marmite on unbuttered rivita.

Kennedy also alleged the team had to work overtime to keep up with Kocktick’s demands, resulting in various projects getting scraped in service of keeping the content train running for Overwatch 1.

Tracy Kennedy brought up these claims in response to a recent Bobby Kotick interview, wherein he claimed the Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 delays were major reasons for his leave… I don’t think Bobby’s lying here, maybe he magically realized that his lack of business skills are only matched by his lack of basic human decency.

Feel free to have a butcher’s at Tracy’s tweet if you’re in the mood for putting another anti-Kotick zinger on the spit.

Tracy Kennedy’s statements (as far as I’m aware) haven’t been backed up or denied by other Activision Blizzard staff (ex or otherwise). But let’s not mince words, if bossman says what the bossman wants, then bossman’s wants what’s driving the bossman’s business down, see?

I’ll stop doing that when it stops being funny to read those sections in a 1920s-style radio commentator voice! And on a vaguely-related note, I was today years old when I found out Jimmy Stewart took part in a celebrity roast of Dean Martin! Guess I know what I’ll be up to on my off-hours. Some have studied The Blade. I studied The Roast!

Recent leaks claim Overwatch 2 will see major changes to the healer Mercy. I’m a massive Overwatch noob, so in lieu of any genuine emotional attachment, I’ll simply admit that the Mercy meme template do make me feel a certain kinda way, to put it mildly… For more on the current Overwatch 2 gameplay info, click here.

The folks at Blizzard have reportedly delayed the Overwatch 2 release date multiple times, most likely as a result of violently unsuccessful attempts to fire a Bobbert Kotique, whom, legend has it, straight up threatened to kill a co-worker, but he was quick to apologise upon the recent discovery that such behaviour is likely to get you fired, so aLL iS FoRgIvEn!

And 5 v 5 gameplay? What is this, basketball? Because if you want Overwatch Basketball so bad, just get NBA 2K21! I’m sure there are some very talented folks in the modding community who’d be willing to bring ‘buttgate’ to the NBA world!

On the bright side, the game has been approximated by the company for a likely 2023 release date, so you know what they say about slow and steady winning the race against the existential dread of a multi-million dollar company being rich enough to make that joke from Incredibles 2 an uncomfortable reality!

Leaker and VTuber Extraordinaire EeveeA has cited 3 sources regarding the moveset of Mercy for Overwatch 2, including a concept she suggested a year ago for the character. The major change? Mercy’s resurrection ability will be replaced with an ability currently known as ‘Angelic Blessing’.

Who Overwatches The Overwatcher:

Fans of the game, recognizing that making a new game would be more difficult and timely than adding extra content to the first Overwatch, have requested that Sojourn, a confirmed Overwatch 2 character, be added to the base game after, ala Doomfist. While it’s not really my place to say whether or not this is the best way to inject your daily levels of Overwatch 2 related copium, I think Michael from The Good Place really sums up the situation well:

Side tangent: Do y’all remember buttgate!? Probably not because you’re reading a semi-obscure Croydon-based gaming company’s comedy news pieces by a guy who brags to his friends about that one funny pirate joke he made. Can’t really blame you though, my furthest knowledge of it is limited to how folks online would crack jokes and memes about Tracer’s posterior.

On Autism and Overwatch Character Tidbits:  Overwatch confirmed a while ago that one of its main playable characters Symmetra has autism, which is a really sweet bit of inclusiveness. The fact she’s a woman is also a bonus considering a common joke amongst others on the spectrum is that getting officially diagnosed is often a cartoonishly more lengthy process than for guys. A friend of mine has also started a Facebook (sorry, Meta, even companies don’t deserve dead-naming) group called ‘I don’t need alcohol, I have autism‘ (though personally, I wouldn’t say no to both) as well as her own blog series: Supercali-flapilistic-autistic-alidocious.

If you’ll pardon a little ending joke back onto my Roast Mode though: Blizzard. Honey. Baby. Mommy-dearest pumpkin-spiced apple sauce. It’s nice that Tracer is canonically lesbian and has a partner, but shout that from the rooftops! Plaster a massive pride flag with her face shmooshed onto it over the company window curtains! Make one of those Detective Pikachu dance loop videos, but it’s Tracer wearing a Jane Fonda get-up dancing to Maniac by Flashdance! Why am I being so adamant about this? Because when the inevitable accelerationist capitalism-imploding apocalypse drops, any surviving historians will play the “just good friends” card, so let’s try and be a little more obvious this time around!

Activision Blizzard are the developing company behind critically acclaimed and beloved games. They’re most well known for World of Warcraft and Overwatch, but they’ve also had their hands in alot of other gaming development cycles from Sekiro to Call of Duty, even Spyro and Crash Bandicoot.

Activision Blizzard has announced that the Cowboy character Jesse McCree will be officially renamed on October 26th as Cole Cassidy. This is in large part due to McCree’s real-life namesake having left the studio in August, most likely due to the extensive workers rights violations and abuse that’s landed the company into court. Unfortunately, this is partly emblematic of another common issue in gaming companies that came to light around the time of The Last of Us Part 2’s crunch hours controversy. There have been many reports of contributing employees having their names removed from the credits of high-profile games they worked on.

In this handy-dandy tweet from the company’s official Overwatch page, we have a little quote that EXTREMELY IRONICALLY sums up how cowardly Activision Blizzard as a company is in a nutshell. “The first thing a renegade loses is their name […] Running from his past meant running from himself”, this is literally describing (unintentionally or not) the logic of “duh, well, we, uuh, did a bunch of bad stuff, soooo, maybe name change make bad thing go bye bye”. And the allusions that Cole was his real name all along is more than a little disheartening, considering it itself is running from the origins of his name and the real person behind it. That said, the real Jesse McCree allegedly took part in the company’s “Cosby Crew”, playing a role in the company-wide “frat boy culture” and sexual harassment, so I’ll reluctantly give Activision 5+ Woke Points for not wanting a possible rapist’s name to be attached to a fan favorite character. Activision also announced some time ago that it will no longer name characters after real-life employees.

As for Overwatch’s game mechanics as a whole, Activision Blizzard is currently making a couple tweaks to help balance and improve McCree’s moveset, which you can find out more about here or trying out Overwatch’s Experimental Mode for yourself.

Since its beginnings as a successful series of strategy games in the 1990s, Warcraft has developed and evolved in a variety of ways. Warcraft has become a huge franchise inspiring several video game titles, a long-running series of books, and World of Warcraft, the most successful MMORPG ever developed.

Following the success of titles like Hearthstone, Blizzard announced earlier this year that the Warcraft series will be making fresh ventures into the realm of mobile gaming. This will take the form of two new titles in the Warcraft franchise. We are yet to hear details of what these games will be.

Warcraft has been one of the most famous PC games since its debut, producing the extremely popular World of Warcraft, which boasted tens of millions of players at the height of its popularity. Now, the series is set to enter the mobile market for the second time. A new job posting hints at how the new Warcraft mobile game may increase the franchises cast of characters.

Blizzard recently advertised a Senior Concept Artist position on the job search website, Indeed, for an unknown mobile Warcraft project. As well as other features of the game needing designs such as creatures and characters, the main thing to pick up from the job listing is that it specifically states there is potential to develop new characters. This means we could possibly be seeing some fresh faces joining the already iconic roster fans are familiar with.

The Warcraft mobile games would be the next in a long line of mobile games from Blizzard’s most successful franchises. Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, released in 2014, has become one of the company’s most successful titles, inspiring a multitude of other online collectable card games. Diablo Immortal was revealed at Blizzcon 2018 and is set to be released in 2022, whereas  there were reports of Overwatch heading to mobile at some point, earlier this year. So, Blizzard have really been making the push to expand their portfolio of games to the mobile market.

At this point in time, not much has been revealed about the two Warcraft mobile games. Other than being confirmed, the only thing we know is the two games are both in advanced stages with their production. Blizzard did however point out that they were encouraging players to check out their classic titles, so potentially these games could take some influence from there. These announcements came from CEO Bobby Kotick during a financial earnings call earlier this year.

As it stands, two Warcraft games are in development for mobile platforms, with a release date yet to be revealed.

The post New Characters Could be Joining the Warcraft Franchise first appeared on Get2Gaming.

A small but positive step…

For those who do not know, Blizzard Entertainment has a tendency to leave little Easter Eggs in which they name in-game characters after real-life people, normally employees at the company. Well, Blizzard has recently released a statement in which they confirmed they will no longer be doing this. This development comes amidst the barrage of lawsuits the company faces regarding harassment, discrimination and retaliation culture.

To give this some context about how the companies lawsuit woes and game characters are intertwined, I will give a very specific example. The example I am using has been heavily discussed as of late, Overwatch’s gunslinger McCree.

You may not have known, but the character is named after a real person (as you may have guessed at this point), Jesse McCree, the lead level designer on Diablo 4. Well, it turns out that McCree was one of those at the centre of the harassment, discrimination, and retaliation charges hurled at the company. As such, he is one of the several senior Blizzard staff dismissed.

Of course, having a character of a game as popular as Overwatch, named after someone like that, is problematic, to say the least. Upon reflection, Blizzard has now released a statement via Overwatch Twitter, stating, “in-game characters will no longer be named after real employees, and we will be more thoughtful and discerning about adding real-world references in future Overwatch content.” Blizzard is also changing McCree’s name entirely in the wake of this. This will not be restricted to just Overwatch. It is likely that Blizzard will refrain from using real names on any of their characters going forward to ensure history does not repeat itself.

As mentioned previously, McCree isn’t the only character with real-life inspiration, and hence, isn’t the only character whose name is being changed amidst lawsuits and dismissals. References to former senior creative director Alex Afrasiabi—who, like McCree, was part of the infamous “BlizzCon Cosby Crew” group chat published by Kotaku—have been removed from World of Warcraft following protests by players. The quest giver Field Marshal Afrasiabi, for instance, has now been replaced by Field Marshal Stonebridge. Of course, the character names wouldn’t be an issue if they didn’t reference the key upholders of Blizzard’s tyrannous culture. It isn’t the real-life inspiration that is the issue; it is the individuals the character names reference. Evidently, they have named characters after completely unethical and vile individuals who lack any sort of moral stature. Regardless, the fact the names of these individuals are being removed from their respective titles is a positive step in the right direction.

Return of the Summer Games Event…

Blizzard has announced the return of the annual Summer event for its team-based shooter game, Overwatch.

What are the Overwatch Summer Games?

The Overwatch Summer Games is a limit timed event that traditionally adds new game modes and summer-themed skins for players to enjoy. It’s a great way for fans to get sucked back into playing the game as so much is on offer.

This year’s Summer Games starts on July 20 and runs until August 10 and some of the new skins fans can expect include; a mermaid skin for Symmetra, a water gun as a replacement for Ashe’s signature rifle, and a skin that makes Mei look like a 50s-era waitress.

Players will also have access to all skins from previous seasons during the event’s duration. Normally the skins become cheaper with each passing year so it’s a great way for players to stock up on skins they have missed out on.

Lucioball game mode will be the headlining feature for the Summer Games 2021. The game consists of all players taking on Lucio’s role as they try to work together to score goals against the opposing team; similar to Rocket League. 

Overwatch is known for its seasonal events are more are likely to return this year, such as the Halloween Terror and Winter Wonderland.

After nearly four years, League of Legends has been dethroned by Overwatch in Korean internet cafes. The reaction Overwatch has had from fans has been amazing. The game has reached over 10 million players. The characters are loved by fans so much that they have been modded into Street Fighter V and imagined as Pokémon Trainers.
