Battlefield 2042 Season 1 is currently set for release in early June.

DICE‘s troubled title Battlefield 2042 finally has a release date for it’s battle pass-style upcoming Season 1 update. Early June is the time but it can’t ever be set in stone with the quite frankly horrible start to Battlefield’s life cycle. Even before release this game has been in a downward spiral, with the open beta last summer that gave everyone access to try the game early being pretty much unplayable to multiple delays to the initial release date of the game Battlefield has taken many many hits but DICE and EA are trying to turn this around with multiple hotfixes and patches to build up to the release of Season 1.

Season 1 is DICE and EA‘s attempt to copy the unbelievable success of Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone‘s battle pass, a live service with plenty of features and unlockables for gamers to earn whilst playing with friends and against others in online competitive modes. Battlefield 2042 has taken such a reputation hit over the last 6 months with players leaving in droves with the PC edition of the game dropping below 1,000 concurrent players in April, a truly shocking amount from such a popular run of titles, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1, 4 and 5 all being massive successes for DICE and their publisher EA.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson was quoted last week.

This is one of the great franchises of our industry, built by one of the great teams in the industry, and our expectations are it’s going to continue to grow and be a really important part of our portfolio for many, many years to come.

This comes after many fans suggesting that EA and DICE have given up the crumbling franchise after flagship Halo Infinite was released with fans loving the newest addition to the long running franchise. Andrew Wilson had denied claims that Halo Infinite made Battlefields issues look more prominent after Halo’s impromptu release of a free multiplayer for all Xbox players.

Through all the stumbles EA are hell bent on sticking with Battlefield 2042 with multiple quality of life updates and listening to fans requests to add features that were expected such as a dynamic leaderboard to check on your stats mid-game(something that should’ve been featured since release). So does the future finally look bright for Battlefield 2042.

EA. Honey. Baby. Comrade. I’m not saying we need to talk about branding… Because we don’t, I hope Battlefield fans enjoy the good news… On the shared universe front, at least.

EA: Out with the old, in with the new.

A Gamespot report shows that the Battlefield publishers at EA want to release more Battlefield titles with shared characters and connected storylines, ala the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Other plans for the company include Oscar Gabrielson (general manager of DICE) being set to leave EA.

Vince Zampella (co-founder of Respawn Entertainment) is now the official overseer of the Battlefield franchise. Marcus Lehto (of Halo design fame) is also going to be in charge of a new studio in Seattle with the aim of making greater narratives for the Battlefield series.

Zampella, when asked in the Gamespot interview, stated the new plans for improving Battlefield are not, I repeat, NOT an attempt to deflect from the fact that Battlefield 2042 has had a relatively unsuccessful launch, likely due to having more bugs than an entomologist’s personal fire ant reserve. “We will continue to evolve and grow Battlefield 2042, and we’ll explore new kinds of experiences and business models along the way”, Zampella claims.

Fawzi Mesmar (head of design at DICE who worked on Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront games) has also reportedly left the company shortly after Battlefield 2042 released, a work email showing he had wanted to leave for some time.

“We couldn’t be more passionate about this game and will be supporting and evolving it for years to come” – According to DICE. In response to player feedback on Battlefield 2042 criticisms of bugs, empty maps, lack of a leader board and other assorted tidbits of Tom-foolery.

Back to the shared universe:

“In this universe, the world is interconnected with shared characters and narrative. This universe is also built with our community as we harness the power of Portal and user generated content that puts creativity in the hands of our players” – Vince Zampella.

It’s possible Lehto may also have a hand in developing the upcoming Battlefield mobile game set for 2022 release. EA also claimed to be putting Zampella in charge of overseeing development of a new game by Ripple Effect (formerly DICE LA). There’s currently no explicit mention of the new game being in the Battlefield series.

Following a smaller update back on November 25th, Battlefield 2042 is getting a much more substantial change today. Titled Update #3 (very creative), the patch includes a laundry list of fixes and changes to the game to address the numerous bugs and glitches the game has been experiencing, as well as the ability to play Rush using the Battlefield portal.

Rush is a classic mode in the Battlefield Franchise, but it was initially left out of 2042 until now. The mode involves players planting bombs on objectives in the games all out warfare maps though battlefield portal. Challenges are also making a return with this update, although they will be different to those seen in battlefield 3 and 4. Instead of unlocking guns, challenges reward players with XP. However, people who finish all 3 weekly challenges will get a cosmetic reward.

The update should help with stability issues, with map improvements totaling to “over 150 individual fixes, small changes and improvements” and some of the games more… odd bugs, like one that would stop missile countermeasures in vehicles from working, have been resolved.

Like the last patch, this one also comes with some quality of life fixes. Players should now find it easier to customize their weapons thanks to the Streamlined collection screen, and also the UI has been decluttered in game. However, Legacy features like voice chat and post game scoreboards have been left out of this patch.

Battlefield 2042 was launched just over a week ago, after much anticipation. Many fans were looking forward to jumping into the enormous 128-player engagements promised by developer DICE as the latest instalment in the Battlefield series. However, many are dissatisfied with the game. While the gameplay contains much of the spectacle, fans have reported a number of bugs and exploits that have impacted the entire experience.

Since launch, Battlefield 2042 has had a multitude of issues, many of which have been resolved in recent patches. One of the most recent exploits players have found, yet to be fixed, is the a way to render smoke grenades useless. This is because there is a way to clear the smoke from your screen, leaving you unaffected.

A post on Reddit was one of the first to report the flaw in Battlefield 2042. A user known as Jagsfootball51 provided a video demonstrating the new exploit . During the video, the user shows to cancel the visual effect of smoke grenades with a simple exploit. A group of enemies was observed on the other side of cover from Jagsfootball51 at the start of the video. While attempting to revive a dead teammate, the enemies detonated a smoke grenade, hiding their location.

Jagsfootball51, unfortunately for the enemies, was aware of the smoke grenade exploit. To turn off the smoke effect, the player only needs to go to the menu and select the Collections tab. The smoke dissipated almost instantly after this activity. This gave the player the opportunity to dispatch the unsuspecting foes.

Smoke Grenade Glitch in Battlefield Gives a Competitive Edge

Several members of the Battlefield 2042 community on Reddit have taken notice of this smoke grenade exploit. Many people were surprised by how quickly the problem was discovered, with over 4,800 upvotes in just a few hours. Unsurprisingly, many gamers expressed their dissatisfaction with the game’s presence of this problem. Unlike some exploits that required multiple steps to complete, the smoke grenade issue was easy to implement. Aside from concerns about the exploit jeopardising game competitiveness, many fans saw it as yet another technical misstep.

It’ll be fascinating to see how DICE handles this problem in Battlefield 2042 in the future. While the developer expects to release another update in December that promises to remedy several of the issues, a game-breaking bug like this will almost certainly need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Hopefully, a solution will be discovered quickly so that gamers can resume using smoke grenades in the way they were intended.

Battlefield 2042 will be receiving some much needed tweaks to its Assault Rifles and Bloom in the near future, following fan complaints. The games launch has been rough, with overwhelmingly negative player reviews and gameplay issues, but it has recently come out from the developers that 2 of the bigger pain points are in the works to be fixed.Dice has been responding to fans via twitter on the issue of 2042s assault riffle and bloom performance. According to players, the issue is that Bloom or bullet dispersion is way off, causing a lackluster gaming experience.

Bloom in this case is referring to Bullet deviation. In most FPS games, where a round actually goes will be randomised within an area dictated by your crosshair, with this area also increasing if you hold down the trigger or fire quickly with automatic weapons. Not all games use bloom, some used fixed recoil patterns which mean that your bullets will always go to the right place, but if you hold down the trigger your gun will recoil in a realistic manner.

2042 uses bloom, and the issue is that its over exaggerated. You can aim and fire at an opponent, but the likely hood of you actually hitting is low, lower if you hold down the trigger. Battlefield’s main competitor, Cod Vanguard, is much tamer in this regard.

Florian “DRUNKKZ3” Le Bihan, one of Dice’s leading designers, stated “Dispersion/Spread/Bloom has been a thing in all past BF games, it’s important for weapons variety and balance as well as creating value for attachments. It shouldn’t be a problem unless it’s too much or increasing too rapidly, which is the problem today that is being looked at”. They also stated that changes hve been made on DICE’s end in preparation for the two following updates, such as Balancing hovercraft videos. Right now, there is no date on when those updates will drip, but it is expected “over the next 30 days”

Bloom is far from the only issue with Battlefield 2042. Bugs are everywhere and the game has also made some controversial decisions.

Fear not, the bugs are being exterminated.

Battlefield 2042, despite being reaching a high player count, has had a far from perfect launch. The game has fallen victim to several bugs and technical issues. The good news is DICE is working hard trying to fix these problems one step at a time.

A fan-run Twitter account Battlefield Bulletin post claims that DICE is currently tackling four issues that Battlefield 2042 players have reported. Those issues range from players rubber banding when they get hit by rockets from a jet or helicopter, and missile relock not working to options for changing the transparency and size of various icons.

However, the post doesn’t detail when players can expect these issues to be fixed. Similarly, the Battlefield Direct Communication account, which is run by Battlefield developers and regularly posts when updates are coming out and their contents, hasn’t mentioned any of these issues yet.

Battlefield 2042 has been building up a bug collection like Pokemon, but as a self-proclaimed First-Person-Shooter Numpty, I just don’t get the same energy level of “You can do it Bezos, BURN IT ALL” compared to New World roasts… But, I’m not getting paid to half-ass my job, so let’s get stuck in!

Since the Early Access EA Play events of November 12th, there’s been discussion of the game’s bugs as well as related issues like causing Xbox One consoles to crash for a time.

Battlefield features a melee combat execution that takes the player out of first-person mode and into a third-person perspective so they can soak up the successful addition to a kill streak in all it’s morning glory! Some players are dissatisfied with this feature, but I say “bruh, you’re probably the kinda person to buy cosmetics for an FPS, this is probably the only way you’ll get to see your character’s rainbow-printed backpack and unicorn ghillie suit during gameplay, this IS as an absolute win“!

In a YouTube clip posted by the creatively named and not at all vapid-sounding ‘Battlefield 2042 Clips Daily’, a video surfaced showing a player perform a melee kill animation that, shock horror, didn’t do a single drop of damage! Redditors who encountered a similar glitch also claimed that performing melee finishing moves prevents the player from turning right or left. Wish there was a word to describe people affected by this motion-based rigidity, but I suppose “centrist” is taken!

Players affected were also unable to swap weapons and experienced varying levels of lag, though apparently, quickly mashing the knife button helps get rid of the delay.

The employees at EA and DICE have been working hard to fix the bugs plaguing the game. As these issues are largely affecting the Xbox console versions, I recommend picking up the PS4 or PS5 pre-order versions we have over at the Go2Games store. Or maybe Battlefield Revolution, I mean, it has “revolution” in the title, so my leftist ass would eat that up in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for my aforementioned FPS-Noobery.

According to a recent post on EA’s website, EA Play subscribers and Xbox Game Pass subscribers will both be able to play the game before its official launch date on November 19th.

Subscribers to either service will be able to play Battlefield 2042 starting on November 12th, as if they had pre-ordered the Gold or Ultimate versions of the game. However, these subscribers won’t be getting a free pass to Battlefield 2042. Instead, EA is offering up a game trial, where users can play up to 10 hours of Battlefield 2042. After that, they’ll be locked out of the title and have to buy it like everyone else.

It’s worth noting that both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be in the same boat on this one, receiving a 10-hour trial instead of the full game. EA Play Pro subscribers are set apart from every other group, being given the Ultimate Edition of Battlefield 2042 and full access to the game starting on November 12th.

Nvidia partners with EA for developing the PC port of Battlefield 2042!

(Psst, get your pre-order bonuses or any other Battlefield games at our store folks. Heck, maybe get in on the Elden Ring extras while you’re around).

This collaboration on the PC port of the game will see many PC-specific upgrades that are beneficial to those with video cards. The PC Battlefield 2042 game will also be compatible with Nvidia Reflex, a feature that allows for greater responsiveness and option adjustments for mouse aiming. A segment from a recent statement Nvidia made reads as follows:

‘PC gamers will get a Battlefield 2042 experience like no other, because a PC allows you to enjoy higher detail levels, uncapped frame rates, and gameplay enhanced by variable refresh rate G-SYNC monitors, TVs and displays’.

‘Graphics on a PC are next-level with ray-traced ambient occlusion (available only on PC), and GeForce RTX-based PCs have dedicated RT cores to deliver excellent ray tracing performance’.

Other related tidbits on Battlefield 2042 include and are not limited to:

• First non-binary character in the franchise? Hell yeah!
• Fixing issues covered in a recent open beta test? Hell yeah!
• Various multiplayer funtimes including a Hazard Zone mode? Hell yeah!
• Being an online-exclusive game with no offline single player modes or story campaign?… No.

In addition, while all other versions of Battlefield 2042 will see big boi numbers of 128-player large matches, the PlayStation 4 version will be capped at 64 players with smaller versions of in-game maps (the latter could be an upside if you get lost easily though).

As of September, the game is set to release November 19th, with pre-orders for the Gold and Ultimate Editions receiving the game a week early according to EA.

Battlefield 2042 will be coming to PC as well as Xbox and Playstation consoles. Furthermore, EA DICE confirmed some features missing in the Beta will be smooshed into the game on release.

Dice are still tweaking the game based on feedback from the open beta

Many fans have faced problems with the Battlefield 2042 beta, citing issues with the performance: being loaded into the wrong servers, having matches filled with too many bots, and having a lacking UI. In an update, Dice has explained how it can hopefully help solve these issues in order to improve the player’s experience. With hope that the game’s November 12 early access launch would have seen these changes be resolved, Dice has said more changes should be made for the game’s November 19 launch.

Dice hopes that players understand that the open beta build will not be identical to what players will experience at launch. Because the build is based on an older version of Battlefield 2042 the game wasn’t quite as polished in areas as the team might have liked and this led to some performance hiccups as a result.

UI features such as ‘Commorose’ which allows players to notify teammates where they are and what items they need,  and ‘Big Map’ which show you where battles are taking place – were missing from this build. The HUD has been tweaked in order that it is more useful so that there is clarity with how the information has been presented.

A concern that won’t be going away though is Battlefield 2042’s inclusion of specialists. With the five specialists that have been announced, five new specialists for the game have been recently revealed:

• Navin Rao – a support class specialist who can hack targets, then kill them to reveal nearby enemies
• Santiago ‘Dozer’ Espinoza – an assault class specialist who can survive explosions
• Emma ‘Sundance’ Rosier – an assault class specialist with a wingsuit
• Ji-Soo Paik – a recon class specialist who automatically marks targets that deal damage to them
• Constantin ‘Angel’ Anghel – a support class specialist who can rapidly revive allies and restore their armor.

Dice hopes these new specialists and their abilities will help to address balancing concerns players had during the Battlefield 2042 open beta. The studio added that they hope the reveal of these new specialists will help address players’ concerns over the game’s balancing.

Battlefield 2042 is set to release on November 19, and can be preordered here for the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5 the Xbox One, and the Xbox One X.
