Ubisoft has announced that Roller Champions will be skating on May 25th!

Revealed in 2019 and originally planned to release the year after, Roller Champions is a “Ubisoft Original” free-to-play PvP online competitive sports game produced by Ubisoft Montreal.

Roller Champions looks like the young whippersnapper offspring of the ancient but still fun Brutal Deluxe SpeedBall 2 and recent competitive darling Rocket League! But with less cars especially much less of the rocket-powered type cars!

From the trailers the premise looks simple enough with similar competitive offensive/defensive and counteroffensive / defensive play and tactics with the aim to score more goals than the opposing side while navigating obstacles and different themed arenas.

Roller Champions will be available next week on Xbox One and PS4, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 via backward compatibility, and for PC through the Ubisoft Store.

Of course Roller Champions will also be rolling to Nintendo Switch, the Epic Games Store, Stadia and Amazon Luna at a later date.

“In each match, you and two teammates will face off against another team of three in an elliptical arena,” Ubisoft says. “The goal is straightforward – reach five points before your opponents do – and the basics are easy to grasp”.

“Keep control of the ball by skating and passing, steal it from your opponents with a well-timed tackle, and make a full lap of the arena to open up the goal and take your shot”.

“Once you’ve got the fundamentals down, you can level up your game by practicing and socializing in the skatepark hub, and then using your skills in matches to execute team manoeuvres and do multiple laps to increase the points each goal is worth.”

Roller Champions will support the now standard cross-play and cross-progression at launch.

Roller Champions will also feature a free Roller Pass, which players can progress through to unlock cosmetic items for their skater, and a premium version offering access to exclusive gear that won’t be available in the item shop.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been delayed again by Ubisoft. Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced that the game was changing studios. Instead of the Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai Studios, Ubisoft Montreal will now be taking over the development. Ubisoft have since confirmed that the game will not be ready till mid 2023 at the earliest.

Trickling Hourglass

The Prince of Persia Remake was first announced in September 2020 at the Ubisoft Forward digital conference. The original game was released in 2003. In the announcement trailer, which you can watch below, Ubisoft announced that it would be available January 21, 2021.

Then, in December 2020, the Indian-based studio announced that it would instead be releasing on March 18 2021. Although no reason was given, it seems it was partly due to the COVID pandemic as the developers tweeted: “2020 has been a year like no other.” What they did not mention, however, was the negative reaction fans had to the trailer and the updated graphics that were deemed underwhelming.

However, the following year, the game was then delayed indefinitely. In June 2021, the Prince of Persia dev team announced that it would not be featured at that year’s Ubisoft Forward conference. The Indian studio also stated that they were making great progress on the game for a 2022 release. However, Ubisoft have since announced that it will be delayed again.

Will it be released in 2023?

In a statement to Digital Trends, Ubisoft announced: “The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake. As such, we are no longer targeting an FY23 (fiscal year 2023) release anymore. Players will be updated on the project as the development is moving along.”

The fiscal year 2023 ends in March 2023, so it is still possible that the Prince of Persia remake will be released the next calendar year. However, with the repeated delays and the switch to Ubisoft Montreal – the studio behind the original game – it appears there were certainly some struggles with this game, that Montreal now have to deal with as well.

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake is certainly not the only game to have been affected by the pandemic. Santa Monica recently announced that God of War: Ragnarok still isn’t ready to share yet, after a number of delays in the production. Both the God of War game and the original Prince of Persia game are fan favourites. Perhaps creating a remake of the beloved 2003 game is also creating a lot more pressure for the developers.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is coming to Xbox Game Pass. According to Community lead at Xbox Game Pass, Megan Spurr, Ubisoft are bringing several games to the library. These games include Assassin’s Creed Origins and For Honor: Marching Fire Edition. For Honor will be available on PC via the Ubisoft Connect app, whilst Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available on console, cloud and PC as well.

The game is set to arrive in the library within the “next two months” but, as of yet, no specific date has been given.

Ubisoft already has some games on the Xbox Game Pass, including Rainbow Six: Extraction, but Origins will be the first of the Assassin’s Creed series to join the library. For Honor was also already on the Game Pass but this means the Marching Fire Edition will be a free update for those who already have it.

Next-Gen Updates for the Assassin’s Creed Series

Last December, Ubisoft tweeted that they wanted to introduce 60fps support for 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins, making it available for a next-gen release on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5. In August last year, they released a 60fps version of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – originally released in 2018 – that was able to run on these two consoles when using backwards compatibility.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship?

Ubisoft seem to be becoming more open to the Xbox console. In January they announced that they would be bringing their Ubisoft Plus subscription service to Xbox, although it will remain a separate subscription from Games Pass. Previously, Ubisoft Plus only included PC compatibility. That same month, they put Rainbow Six: Extraction on Xbox Games Pass the same day it was released. Combined with the desire to update their games to run on the next-gen Xbox, these decisions make it seem Ubisoft want to tap into the Xbox market.

Other games to arrive on the Xbox Game Pass include 7 Days to Die and Bugsnax. These games look set to arrive in the library next week. You can see the full list of arrivals and dates on the Xbox blog here. Available today on Xbox Games Pass are F1 2021 and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. Both these games are supplied by the EA Play subscription after EA joined the Xbox Games Pass, allowing players to access this membership at no extra cost. Whereas, Ubisoft’s Plus subscription will remain separate.

It marks a good week for Assassin’s Creed fans then, after Ubisoft also released a new update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has received the Mastery Challenge Pack 2. Released on Tuesday 19th April, the update is free for players on all platforms. Watch the trailer below.

Ubisoft’s Update 1.5.1 features nearly 200 bug fixes or improvements to both Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the Dawn of Ragnarok edition. These focus mainly on combat, quests, the UI or HUD, and general gameplay. You can read the list here.

Mastery Challenges 2: Electric Boogaloo

However, the main focus is the update to the Mastery Challenge. Mastery Challenge was originally released last year and included a new storyline and a trial system offering challenges and rewards. The new update brings a new story to the pack, along with 3 more shrines to access the trials and rewards in the game. The trials culminate in a boss fight that combines elements from each of the trials. The rewards include the “Valkyrie Armor set, all-new weapons, a tattoo set, and new settlement cosmetics.”

Ostara Returns

Mastery Challenge Pack 2 also brings back the Ostara festival to Ravensthorpe. The Ostara festival runs for a limited time, from April 21st to May 12th. Last year, the Ostara festival included a variety of combat and non-combat activities and it looks as though this year’s will follow the same theme. Activities include an egg-hunt, archery contests, drinking contests and brawling. Players can take part in these festivities both day and night and earn tokens to win the same prizes as last year. These prizes are mainly settlement decorations or cosmetics. You can read more about the festival here.

In the real world, Ostara is a pagan festival to mark the Spring equinox that usually takes place in March. However, perhaps Ubisoft are focusing on the Easter season instead this year.

Updates Continuing Through Spring Season

In addition to this update, Ubisoft also supplied a roadmap for the Spring season. Update 1.5.2 is expected in May and a new Armoury feature is also set to join. The Armory is a new building which can be built in Ravensthorpe that allows you to customize and display your favorite gear sets. The building accommodates up to five loadouts of weapons, armour, and skills. Once they are saved, players can access these loadouts from anywhere in the game.

Both the Mastery Challenges and the Ostara festival are free for players, but there is a prerequisite for each. In order to play the Mastery Challenges, Ubisoft states: “Players must be at least Power Level 221, have completed the Uninvited Guests main quest after reporting on Grantebridgescire and Ledecestrescire, and have completed the narrative quest from Mastery Challenge Pack 1.” Similarly, to take part in the Ostara festival, “players must reach England and complete one of the first two narrative arcs (Grantebridgescire or Ledecestrescire) and have a settlement at Level 2.”

Finally, Ubisoft also announced that Assassin’s Creed Origins is coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Origins can be bought from Go2Games and is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC or from the Ubisoft store.

Ubisoft has officially ended development support for ghost recon breakpoint. The game launched back in october 2019 and was widely panned by critics and fans alike, which lead to a series of updates intended to improve the game.

The news came in the form of a tweet from the official ghost recon twitter account on tuesday, where ubisoft said the game will not receive any further Content updates.

The Message reads “The last four months marked the release of our final piece of content: the brand new Operation Motherland mode, tons of new items including 20th anniversary iconic outfits and Quartz items for Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

“We will continue to maintain our servers for both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint and we truly hope you will continue to enjoy the game and have fun playing in solo or co-op with your friends.

“From the entire Ghost Recon team, we want to thank you again for your continued support and love you have for the franchise. The feedback you’ve given for Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been instrumental and will help shape the future of the franchise.”

Outside of its already troubled launch, Ghost recon made significant missteps over its lifetime, including the Aforementioned Quartz items for the game. Ingame items tied NTFs (Non Fungible tokens), which were divisive to say the least upon launch and were very widely panned by players and critics alike.

In 2019 Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that Breakpoints poor critical reception was responsible for the delays we saw to watch dogs legion, gods and monsters (later renamed immortals fenyx rising) and rainbow Six Extraction.

I’ve made no secret of my distaste for Ubisoft and doing my part to highlight industry abuse, like a cishet babyfaced Jim Sterling at the best of times. Good thing my great big bushy beard is starting to grow in, really need to distinguish my brand.

Following a 6-month sabbatical, news of David Polfeldt’s (Professional DP-Initial-Haver and ex head of Ubisoft Massive) resignation came via VGC interview after finishing his notice period of work.

“I think my philosophy and my skills work well for a certain kind of group of a certain kind of size, I don’t think I’m the right manager for what the studio has become. I’m perfectly at peace with it” – David Polfeldt.

Reasons for leaving the company could well vary between having too many OR too few people to work on the project! Let me explain.

‘Polfeldt suggested that the studio’s significant growth – it now numbers over 750 people – was one of the motivations behind his decision not to return’. That’s according to GamesIndustry.Biz and VCG, so based on that, you’d think any reasons for leaving are purely creative and organisational, but none too controversial… So you’d think.

‘A range of reasons have been cited for departures, including low pay, competitive opportunities elsewhere, frustration at the company’s creative direction, and unease at its handling of workplace misconduct’. That’s according to the folks at Eurogamer, so what’s going on here then?

I may fancy myself something of a skeptic, but I’ll refrain putting my conspiracy theory hat for now, let’s see if how this 750-figure stacks up to the mass leave of other folks at Ubisoft…

Okay, upon further research, it turns out ‘The Great Exodus‘ was moreso a matter of quality than quantity of workers lost (as far as I am aware). Yes, ‘resignations include five of the top 25 developers credited on Far Cry 6’ and ‘Twelve of the top 50 who worked on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla have also left’, among other employee walkouts, but the company already hired over 2,500 in April last year!

Ain’t that a kick in the head between your legs? You go in there expecting to raw-dog a shady company, find a couple differences in opinions, think you found evidence of some questionable journalistic integrity and BOOM, turns out it was just mild misinterpretations of the info on my end. This must be how flat-earthers feel, right? Well, don’t be afraid to admit when you’re wrong folks, you’ll be better off for it!

Oh Ubisoft, you lovable, adorable, totally not problematic and dishonest conglomerate of known rapist-protectors… But, one of my first blogs was on Skull and Bones, so I’ll keep the usual cynical roasting to a minimum (if I can help it) out of pure vaguely para-social sentimental value. To this day I can’t get over that “packet of crisps” joke, not to toss my own tube-steak.

Celebrate Good Times (Come On): For starters, Ubisoft recently announced that it’s happy with how Skull and Bones is taking shape after so many delays (having changed direction multiple times over 5 years of development)… And now I’m about to break my earlier promise from one paragraph ago because-

Frédérick Duguet (Professional Multi-Accent-Lettered Name-Haver and CFO to Ubisoft) announced Skull and Bones will be scrapping it’s previously promised single-player campaign to purely focus on multiplayer experiences.

There was also discussion in September of the game’s boarding mechanics being down to a somewhat luck-based mini game, which… I mean, that’s bad enough in a single player game, but that’s POISON in a multiplayer game! I’m not exactly a professional designer, but the odd delves into Game Maker’s Toolkit showed me that making certain types of luck too essential in player-on-player action can reduce fairness and interaction. I think Mr Falcon and Jim Carry in Liar Liar sum up my thoughts exactly!

Good News? Anything At All? Pretty Please? With Sugar on Top? Since I asked so nicely, sure! While the game hasn’t got a precise release date in mind, Ubisoft’s latest financial reports suggest the project will be ready for release sometime in April 2023. And besides Ubisoft taking the game in a ‘live service’ direction, a lot of the mechanics and leaks from industry insider Tom Henderson build the game up to seem like an epic one.

And good news for me? Well, Storm Eunice is making everything look like the opening to Rashamon outside as I write this, maybe I can use the opportunity to brew up a short film during break or after work if I’m feeling it. I’m sure I could probably string together some retroactively Hashtag Deep narration and context in post, fingers crossed!

As there’s soon to be an Activision Blizzard-shaped hole in my heart due to the powers that be, let’s see what fresh hell is getting cooked up at Ubisoft!

A Better Ubisoft, a collective of current and ex Ubisoft workers to end abuse in the company and gaming industry, have posted criticisms of how a recent internal Ubisoft survey only discussed via summary video with few to no specific claims about employee satisfaction (the supposed goal of the survey). The video was shared internally amongst Ubisoft employees, narrated by Anika Grant.

“With the exception of participation and engagement scores, the talking points were delivered with no numbers […] there were vague statements like, ‘You told us…’ or ‘We heard from you..’ This gives no way of knowing whether the statement that ‘you have managers who are approachable and supportive’ means 95% feel this way or 51% — starkly different outcomes”. – A Better Ubisoft.

Why So Vague iBhard? Saying some issues in the survey were “above the external benchmarks for general industry” and then preceding to not elaborate in the slightest isn’t exactly the best look. Needless to say, this ain’t it chief Grant!

Ironic that you allegedly admitted the largest issues brought up in the survey were about transparency and accountability… And then didn’t give a single second of lip-service to the 4 key demands A Better Ubisoft has been making for the last 200 days. The key demands still haven’t been met and Ubisoft employee requests for the survey results are pending.

There have also been reports of past internal message threads with the company being ignored, even after times Ubisoft itself explicitly asked for worker feedback on things.

This Paragraph Was Written By A Racially Diverse Team Made Up Of Various Faiths, Genders and Orientations, So How Could We Possibly Be Bad? Said Ubisoft to literally any criticism of internal systematic racism, sexism, homophobia and harassment! In a world where the folks at PlayStation managed to fire a major figure at the company for attempted kiddy-fiddling within HOURS, there’s literally no excuse for abusers like Hughues Ricour, Tommy Francois or Adrien Gbinigie to maintain high positions of employment after allegations that would make Harvey Weinstein blush!

And don’t even get me started on the “female characters are more difficult and expensive to animate” debacle from a couple years back, but sufficient to say, it’s a lot less expensive when you divert your budget from jiggle-physics to internal networking to replace known abusers you should’ve fired years ago.

Bad news for fans of Ubisoft’s 2020 spy thriller, Watch Dogs Legion. It looks like that the latest update to the game back in September 2021 will be the final one, with Ubisoft looking to work on other projects.

Whilst there have been some speculation in recent months that Ubisoft were indeed dropping support, it will still come as a surprise to many that its come so soon. Unfortunately, it now looks like that’s the case.

Previously, we’ve been treated to an abundance of content added to the sprawling open-world of London. The reappearance of Aiden Pearce was certainly a surprise, as was the Assassin’s Creed crossover, and don’t even get us started on the zombies mode. Ubisoft clearly tried to cover a diverse range of genres for us to explore, whilst simultaneously managing to fix bugs and various other issues. It’s safe to say we haven’t been spoilt for choice.

It’s by this understanding why we find it so disappointing that we won’t be getting anything else like it now. It’s rare nowadays where you get a game giving you solid support with genuinely good content, so to see the plug pulled is sure to leave a sour taste in many peoples mouths.

Personally, it reminds me of EA’s decision to stop Star Wars Battlefront II support, just as the games player base was finally on the rise again. I’ve still not forgiven them for that. Nor has many of the Star Wars fan base. Please Ubisoft, don’t be as cruel as EA were when you release your upcoming Star Wars title.

Ubisoft Proud Of Watch Dogs Legion But Must Move On

It must be noted that Watch Dogs Legion’s online mode has just entered its fifth season, so all the content is relatively new. So at least we have that to divulge in for the meantime. Obviously, the support for the game won’t go as well, meaning the servers will still be running.

This information was made available by the Ubisoft Watch Dogs Legion development team, with the team closing out by stating, “The game has grown by leaps and bounds, with a ton of content to explore, from a sprawling near future city to an action-packed Online Mode. We couldn’t be prouder of the game we’ve created, and we appreciate all of you who’ve joined us on this journey in London over the year. We look forward to seeing more of your adventures in Legion.”

What Next For Ubisoft?

Ubisoft itself still has several games on the horizon for this year, as well as beyond. Rainbow Six Extraction was released just a few days ago, while the company still has a Splinter Cell Remake, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, The Division: Heartland, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an open-world Star Wars game, and more—some set for release this year but all in some stage of development.

Not only this, but they’ve gone back to remaster the beautiful Italian Renaissance period for Switch too with the Ezio Collection! If you want to delve back into it on PS4, well you know where to go.

Get your pens ready and calendars out to drop this date in quickly! Ubisoft have just announced a January 11 release date for Far Cry 6’s Pagan Min DLC. What a way to start the New Year!

Pagan Min’s arrival will be apart of the second DLC available for the Season Pass and will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Stadia and PC. Gamers will able to purchase it through both the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store.

“Players will embody Pagan Min, the iconic villain from Far Cry 4, in a brand-new experience inspired by the roguelite genre taking place in the depths of the villain’s troubled psyche,” according to the game’s publisher.

“Blending intense action and storytelling, Pagan: Control will provide a unique opportunity for players to explore Pagan’s mind, learn more about his past, and face off against familiar faces as he struggles to break free from his cycle of guilt and regrets.”

This certainly isn’t the first former antagonist making his return. It follows last November’s release of the first Season Pass DLC, Vaas: Insanity. Arguably the most iconic Far Cry Villain it was obviously fantastic to see his return.. Available separately for $14.99 / £11.99 (although the base game is required), it lets players step into the role of Far Cry 3 villain Vaas Montenegro.

Similarly, players will also soon have the chance to take control of Far Cry 5 villain Joseph Seed, as he is the third and final piece of Season Pass DLC.

The Future Of The Far Cry Franchise And Ubisoft

Unfortunately, Ubisoft recently confirmed that the most senior creative director behind the Far Cry franchise had left the company after ten years. As a result, some fans have been left wondering where exactly the series will go to next. It seems that they have now answered that question as Far Cry 7 could shake-up the series with a greater focus on online play.

Additionally, Ubisoft also announced that Rainbow Six Extraction will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and Cloud. If we haven’t given enough reasons as to why the Xbox game pass is so good already, well here’s another one!

Lastly, the infamous games publisher also revealed that Ubisoft+ subscription service is coming to Xbox consoles. With all this, a new theme park on its way and some free games being handed out, it’s certainly not a dull time to be a fan of the developers.
