NFTs (None Fungible Token) are a unique non-interchangeable units of data stored on a blockchain (a form of digital ledger), which effectively allow users to own, buy and sell digital goods such as in-game items or artwork.

During EA’s third quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts (EA) acknowledged that NFTs are currently driving a lot of outside investment in the games industry. However, he compared the current rise of NFTs and investments to previous investments for 3D AR and VR in the video game industry.

“The way I look at this is, collectabilty is really built on four key metrics,”. “That’s around high-quality content, it’s around scarcity, it’s around proof of authenticity, and it’s around a group of people that find value in that content.

“We’ve seen that happen in the real world and we’ve seen that happen in the virtual world with certain things that happened in and around our games for some number of years.

“And I believe that collectability will continue to be an important part of our industry and the games and the experiences that we offer our players.

“Whether that’s part of NFTs and the blockchain, well that remains to be seen. And I think the way we think about it is, we want to deliver the best possible player experience we can. And so, we’ll evaluate that over time, but right now it’s not something that we’re driving hard against.”

Andrew Wilson also said this during the second earnings call back in November;

“The play to earn or the NFT conversation is still really, really early”, before adding: “I do think it will be an important part of our – of the future of our industry on a go-forward basis.”

Since the earning calls, a few notable gaming companies have started selling NFTs, companies like Konami and Ubisoft, while Square Enix merely expressed interest in the whole NFT universe. With that being said, these companies have come under fire for producing or even expressing interest in these NFTs due to the NFT format’s high carbon footprint and what many perceive to be cynical implementation.

Earlier on Tuesday, the publishers behind Worms, TeamU17 decided to pass on entering the NFT space because of the backlash from its business partners and fans. Other companies have shown more Resistance to the backlash of game companies dipping their hands into the NFT space, going as far one Ubisoft executive recently claiming players just “don’t get it”

Andrew Wilson also addressed  Battlefield 2042’s disappointing launch day during the earning’s call on tuesday, saying He backed developer DICE to turn things around and claimed to believe the game “Will do well over the course of time”.

Posting to the /r/Sims4 community on Reddit, Heatherdukefanboy shared a screenshot of their Sims cottage.This beautifully constructed cottage caught the attention of many of the game’s fans, including myself. What do you all think then? It’s pretty neat, right? The house itself is built near a river too, adding to the calm aesthetic its striving for. Rustic is also certainly the theme here, with a mixture of woods and stones helping to enable that look. The stony wall guarding the cottage manages to protect it from the otherwise busy Sim World which may surround it. A masterpiece, to say the least.

Unfortunately, those of you who are looking to have a sneak peak to see what’s inside will be left disappointed. Heatherdukefanboy is yet to take on the interior design, but don’t worry, that just means you’ll have to come back here to see it when they do! EA have apologised for the latest scandal which has effected many FIFA players recently. A number of infamous streamers and Ultimate Team traders have had their accounts compromised in recent weeks, which have then been emptied of coins and players. Yikes.

According to reports, by providing a Gamertag or PSN ID associated with an EA account, hackers were able to persuade EA Help live chat to hand over or change email addresses associated with the accounts. Therefore, they were able to reset the passwords and essentially strip the account of anything its worth.

As you can imagine, this is a pretty big deal in the FIFA community. As a FIFA player myself, I couldn’t think of anything worse in the game than arriving onto your account to see everything you’ve worked for gone. It’d be truly devastating.

Having investigated the issue, EA confirmed on Tuesday that “less than 50” accounts were taken over.

“Utilising threats and other ‘social engineering’ methods, individuals acting maliciously were able to exploit human error within our customer experience team and bypass two-factor authentication to gain access to other player accounts,” it said.

“We are currently working to identify rightful account owners to restore access to their accounts, and the content within, and players affected should expect a response from our team shortly. Our investigation is ongoing as we thoroughly examine every claim of a suspicious email change request and report of a compromised account”.

“There is always a human factor to account security and we know we must do better,” it added, before outlining three measures being taken to beef up security as a result of recent incidents.

EA Intend To Train Staff Better To Prevent Further Issues

After acknowledging the issue, EA will now have to fix it to make sure it doesn’t happen again. As a result, all staff who assist with EA Accounts will receive extra training, additional steps to the account ownership verification process will be added, and EA’s customer experience software will be updated with additional security features. These are things we like to hear.

Unfortunately, it will most likely come at a cost as EA said these actions may result in longer customer wait times.

“We’d like to apologize for the inconvenience and frustration that this has caused, and that we were unable to share additional details in our original communication last week as we conducted a thorough investigation. Thanks to the whole community for your patience as we continue to address the situation and take corrective actions.”

In all honesty though, who really minds? As long as our teams are safe, I personally think its all worth it. Battlefield 2042 has finally been released, after a week of limited access. Now it’s available for people to use, Plenty of players have been checking out the portal editor. This is a new feature to the series which allows players to create their own custom games, similar to the forge Mode of the Halo Series. Recently, one fan decided to utilize this toolsuite to create a custom game involving the games wingsuit.

2042 has introduced a lot of new gameplay features to the battlefield series. One of these is the wingsuit, an ability available when playing as the specialist “sundance”, players can glide using this item to help reach places quicker. The ability also helps you to catch enemies off guard, making its use incredibly important. So, to help players get used to this ability, they made a practice course for them.

Posted on reddit, a user going by the moniker “andygmb” shared a video from the game. In said clip, they show off the custom wingsuit course they had created. The purpose was to help those who wanted to improve their ability. The video shows the course in action, with the player starting at the top of a skyscraper and then proceeding to glide through a series of rings to get to the ground. The rings are laid out in such a way that passing through them requires precise adjustments to the player’s flightpath.

Along with the video of the course, andygmb shared some behind the scenes of how the course works. Apparently, the rings are formed from bots. These were used as other visual elements were unavailable in portal mode. Furthermore, they also revealed plans to share the code for the training course in the future, for those who want to practice.

Following the creation of the wingsuit course, it will be interesting to if andygmb create any more courses for 2042, or if there are any more interesting portal mode Maps in the works.

Nvidia partners with EA for developing the PC port of Battlefield 2042!

(Psst, get your pre-order bonuses or any other Battlefield games at our store folks. Heck, maybe get in on the Elden Ring extras while you’re around).

This collaboration on the PC port of the game will see many PC-specific upgrades that are beneficial to those with video cards. The PC Battlefield 2042 game will also be compatible with Nvidia Reflex, a feature that allows for greater responsiveness and option adjustments for mouse aiming. A segment from a recent statement Nvidia made reads as follows:

‘PC gamers will get a Battlefield 2042 experience like no other, because a PC allows you to enjoy higher detail levels, uncapped frame rates, and gameplay enhanced by variable refresh rate G-SYNC monitors, TVs and displays’.

‘Graphics on a PC are next-level with ray-traced ambient occlusion (available only on PC), and GeForce RTX-based PCs have dedicated RT cores to deliver excellent ray tracing performance’.

Other related tidbits on Battlefield 2042 include and are not limited to:

• First non-binary character in the franchise? Hell yeah!
• Fixing issues covered in a recent open beta test? Hell yeah!
• Various multiplayer funtimes including a Hazard Zone mode? Hell yeah!
• Being an online-exclusive game with no offline single player modes or story campaign?… No.

In addition, while all other versions of Battlefield 2042 will see big boi numbers of 128-player large matches, the PlayStation 4 version will be capped at 64 players with smaller versions of in-game maps (the latter could be an upside if you get lost easily though).

As of September, the game is set to release November 19th, with pre-orders for the Gold and Ultimate Editions receiving the game a week early according to EA.

Battlefield 2042 will be coming to PC as well as Xbox and Playstation consoles. Furthermore, EA DICE confirmed some features missing in the Beta will be smooshed into the game on release.

Developed by Respawn Entertainment, the beloved battle royale shooter Apex Legends will see its 11th season release on November 2nd. Till then, click here for the trailer and stick around for more information and hopefully my occasionally quirky inserts where I reference old British sitcoms and weird non-sequiturs when you least expect it… Rectangular water goat.

Information on the new tropical island map featured in the trailers was leaked by dataminers some months ago, so great to see the rumors confirmed and the location realised in all its morning glory. For all you lore-heads out there, the new stage is rumored to be planet Gaea, home to the deadly Carthage Spiders that may appear in gameplay as an environmental threat. Gaea is also the home planet of Rampart, Caustic and Crypto, as well as a playable location in Titanfall.

Oddly enough, this smells like Fortnite. Not only because I came across an in-game halloween giant spider piñata that freaked me out for a hot minute, but also because that game has wolves, boars and chickens roaming the world that you can hunt for useful items. Quite likely the Carthage Spiders will function similarly, “as a persistent map feature and threat” according to one dataminer. Heck, the trailer has a bloke barely fighting off some kinda alien lizard-tiger monster, so maybe there’ll be some kind of group PVE mode coming to Apex where you and the lads can go out communicating with nature… And monsters… With your gun… And grenades… But mostly the shooty-bang-bangs… Deadly Irish Honeycomb.

We’ll also be seeing Titanfall 2 villain Ash coming with Season 11, who serves as the overseer of Apex Legends’ Arena Mode, which you can find out more on here.

Respawn also announced in August plans to release a ‘next-gen update’ to Apex, though there’s currently no known release window.

FIFA and EA Sports’ reported split suggests FIFA is up for development by another developer.

Electronic Arts and FIFA, the organisation has been in partnership for over thirty years becoming one of the most successful and highly grossing franchises in the gaming world. FIFA has been the biggest association football game for many consecutive years with Electronic Arts even claiming FIFA to be the best-selling game series in the world with over 200 million players. But with recent reports insinuating a possible break-up between the partnership, FIFA look for other pathways for their football gaming series.

Reports started weeks ago with EA claiming they were “exploring ideas” on changing the FIFA title. Many thought this could be just another rumour but when it was confirmed that EA filed trademark for “EA Sports FC”, the FIFA community began believing the split between EA and FIFA was inevitable.

Executives reporting the reasoning for the break down in the deal being because of the organisation, FIFA’s asking price for the licensing of their name, asking for 1 billion every 4 years. EA Sports not being happy with this then started looking at ways around this.

Later, FIFA then released a statement addressing the rumours and having their say on EA’s total power with the franchise, FIFA. They extend and go into detail about the future of FIFA sounding quite positive on the direction it is going in despite the fact the partnership with EA made the game into what it is today; one of the biggest game franchises. They also spoke about engaging in talks with “developers, investors, and analysts” on the future of FIFA. Lastly, adding their idea on expanding their audience and competition with the addition of live competitive gaming; mostly including the FIFA World Cup with it also said that EA Sport and FIFA will take a break just before the FIFA World Cup begins.

FIFA 22 was released October 1^st on all platforms giving off a very good and interesting first impression. Many of the FIFA community being happy and satisfied with the work done by EA. EA Sports recently launched an update to the game, adjusting and mending bugs that were in place following release. The update including patches to the goalkeepers that were said to be too “OP” decreasing the probability of saves inside the penalty area. Also adding minor adjustments to the HyperMotion increasing the game response time. This update getting positive feedback but with more updating needed, EA Sports are sure to be on the case.

FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football reportedly wants $1 billion every 4 years from Electronic Arts for the use of the FIFA title on their football game series.

Electronic Arts’ FIFA franchise is one of the most anticipated annual releases every year with FIFA 22 having much success thus far. FIFA 22 was released October 1^st with many of the FIFA community speculating it may be the last FIFA title as conflict between Electronic Arts and the International Federation of Association Football continues to unfold.

Electronic Arts and FIFA have been in partnership for near to 30 years with their first release being FIFA International Soccer in 1993. Although they have been in partnership for such a while, rumours of recent have suggested this partnership may come to an end. EA Sports have reported been “exploring ideas” on changing the name of their football franchise for good and with this news coming out, we have many reasons to believe this row is very much money related.

With FIFA being one of Electronic Arts’ best-selling franchises for many years with the game yearly overshadowing every other football associated release. FIFA has been highly profitable for EA Sports with not just sales but also with popular game mode, FIFA Ultimate Team, having cunning microtransactions that millions of players spend money daily. Streamers and Youtubers that are held in high regard spend tons of money on FUT Points which helps to better their game, attracting fans that add money to their pockets which come all the way back around to adding loads of money into Electronic Arts’ safe. This cycle being what brings in most of the revenue in for EA.

EA recently trademark filing suggests that the title FIFA may be changed to EA Sports FC for the next titles. An EA Sports executive, Cam Weber has expressed that talks between EA Sports and FIFA have stalled insinuating that these rumours may be true. He also suggests there may be a break in partnership between EA Sports and FIFA following the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This also confirms the asking of $1 billion every 4 years from FIFA to EA Sports.

FIFA 22 has brought much success with its early October release. With many new things added onto this years’ game. Fans have mostly been impressed by the addition of HyperMotion Technology which brings more realistic gameplay. Pro Clubs, second most popular game mode after FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) has been much improved also, adding a whole different dynamic to making a player; adding new archetypes and perks. Even bigger, adding the edit enabling players to create female players, bridging the gender gap in Pro Clubs. Fans have also been impressed with the improvements made to Volta, allowing it to be more of a party, enjoyable game mode. Giving fans a real feel of the old FIFA Street game series. Many more improvements and developments have been made to FIFA 22 with many describing it as the “ultimate football game”.

Electronic Arts have a “renewed long term” agreement with football players’ union Fifpro allowing thousands of players’ likeness and names to be used in their football game series.

This is great news for the FIFA community as one of the main reasons for FIFA’s success in popularity and preference is because of the authenticity and licenses they possess over their football series competitors. This long-term partnership allows players of the game to continue playing with their favourite football stars, mimicking them from action to action.

Electronic Arts have always prioritised licences for its FIFA games, stating “We focus so much energy on the collective strength of over 300 individual licensed partners that give us access to 17,000+ athletes across 700+ teams, in 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues around the world.” Adding “We continually invest in the partnerships and licenses that are most meaningful to players, and because of that, our game is the only place you can authentically play in the iconic UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, CONMEBOL Libertadores, Premier League, Bundesliga, and LaLiga Santander, among many others.” This all previously being said in a press release with a publisher referring to a change in the FIFA title.

Recently this month, EA have been looking for options to stamp their name on the forefront of their football game series, disbanding the famous title, FIFA, stating it was “exploring the idea”. Also stating more on the exclusion of FIFA, the football organisation, stating “As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA Sports football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.” Electronic Arts recently also filing trademark applications for the name “EA Sports FC” which imaginably could be in place for “FIFA” as the new name for the large franchise.

So, with this long-term agreement being in place, it could be only a matter of time before we see a change in the Electronic Arts football game series. Being seen that if EA were to cut complete ties with FIFA, the licenses, partnerships and rights will still be in their control as they are not in connection to the Electronic Arts and FIFA’s agreement. FIFA 22 being the latest game released within their agreement, it could very well be the last with nothing being confirmed until announced by EA.

FIFA 22 has gotten very high praises from the FIFA community with their new introduction to HyperMotion, making the game more realistic than it has ever been. Giving the fans the feel and experience they have always cried for. FIFA 22 released October 1^st had an amazing opening week with Electronic Arts looking forward to many more amazing weeks to come.

FIFA, described as the international governing body of association football is one of the biggest sports associations around and has been the face of Electronic Arts‘ football gaming series for over 20 years being second fiddle behind eFootball, formerly known as Pro Evolution Soccer for some of its time but for the last 10 plus years, overtaking and being the biggest football gaming firm around. With the large amount of licensing they have, from players to clubs to leagues to famous brands and many more. It makes the game stand out most opposed to any other football game.

Electronic Arts have carried their football game series with the FIFA title for a long while but may be considering a change to that as they state they are “reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.” Meaning a title change could very much be possible if the contract they, Electronic Arts & FIFA, hold together makes that possible. Now with the title FIFA carrying so much weight and being held at such high regard, it is strange to hear of this, especially with it being so sudden and at a press release.

FIFA 22 released October 1^st has received positive reviews with the release becoming record breaking. Many of the FIFA community are taking it in and welcoming it as “very realistic” and the “best FIFA yet”. With the many additional features added, they have managed to widen the audience even more, making it the undisputed go-to football game with no other competitor even within reach. Despite the possible name change, we don’t feel it will have any effect on the gameplay. Nor will it have any effect on the number of players and football fans they rake in yearly.

FIFA 22 is out now and available to play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Stadia. The official trailer, released late July, revealed many new features that add a more realistic feel to the game, bringing real life football and virtual football closer. Filling all the gaps the FIFA community have complained about for years, making FIFA 22 the ultimate football game.
