Doom Eternal will be getting limited edition physical copies very soon.

In the past, physical games used to have posters or guide books in their boxes. Now, the boxes lack such a feature. There’s less of an incentive to buy physical copies unless you prefer them, or just like having something on your shelf for your own personal collection. A push to buy digital copies of games instead is now a much more popular venture because of its convenience, especially because not all games get a physical copy. 

Recently, what really entices gamers are limited edition physical copies of games. These include things like posters and guide books, and much more. Having these on your shelf really feels worthwhile.

Doom Eternal has received praise for its graphics, level design, soundtrack, and combat. Doom Eternal also received five nominations at The Game Awards for 2020, including Game of the Year and Best Action Game.

Knowing this, it’s clear that this once digital only game deserves a grand physical edition release. And so it got one. 

There are multiple options for what you can buy. From just the physical copy and reversible cover option, to the Ultimate edition, including a poster, figurines, vinyl cover art prints, and more. Depending on your budget, you can pick which suits you best. Price points from the Limited Run Games website are $59.99 to $174.99. 

With price points like these, it can seem daunting. However, with a game like Doom Eternal, it is understandable why a demand for physical copies and limited editions are warranted.

Previously, with games such as Titanfall (2014), which won over 60 awards at its E3 2013 reveal, it is easy to see how such a praised game would almost feel strange without a collectors edition. Its collectors edition had an 18-inch titan statue equipped with LED lights, as well as a concept art book with 190 pages. Although at a hefty price point of now $400, it is understandable why gamers would want something so awesome for a game so loved.

This is why, with a game as loved as Doom Eternal, a collectors edition will be very sought after.

Although not the first FPS game ever made, the original Doom (1993) was entirely genre defining, with it being frequently cited as one of the greatest games ever made. It sold an estimated 3.5 million copies by 1999. Doom Eternal iterates on its past this with new graphics and features, and continues to define and influence the FPS genre as a whole. Undoubtedly, fans of the series are excited for its limited edition release.

Doom Eternal is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Switch physical editions will be launching for pre-order July 29 to September 11 2022.

Platinum games to take on “larger and risker games” as it hires veteran Nintendo exec.

PlatinumGames know for action games like “Bayonetta” series, “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” and “NieR:Automata“.They have been teasing a new era for the company after under going a number of high level staff changes over the past year, the latest of these being new vice president/Chief Business Officer former Managing Director of Nintendo of Europe Takao Yamane. Along side this at the beginning  of year the year producer Atsushi Inaba was announced as Platinum’s new CEO.

Who is Takao Yamane

While not a super recognisable name in Nintendo he spent nearly 30 years there beginning as Vice President of Nintendo France until 2007, then moving onto being the Managing Director of Sales at Nintendo of Europe for 18 years.

Platinum “new directions”

When asked about join Platinum Yamane said he felt he required in order to help veteran game designer Hikdeki Kamiya (mind behind the Bayonetta and Devil May Cry series) and new CEO Atsushi Inaba “make their dreams become reality. He cited the upcoming unnamed game Project GG originally teased in 2020 declaring the project as being “incredible”. Project GG is set to be platinum’s first fully owned self published title. Essentially Yamane’s arrival signifies a “significant” change for PlatinumGames .

What this means and why

All of this is the say that the developer is not so subtlety hinting at a new direction for their new creative projects even teasing “PlatinumGames Reborn” for an interview tomorrow on the Japanese magazines Famitsu’s website. This is all notably happing after the failure of their last game Babylon’s Fall, a live service action role-playing game published by Square Enix, which released to not so great reviews. With IGN bluntly stating “isn’t good. It’s not terrible or broken, it just “is,” and “does little to justify investing your time into it” giving it a meagre 4/10.

Most likely this new leaf they are turning is a direct response to their last change in direction that had lead to Babylon’s failure with fans even calling out the decision earlier in February when it was announced they where moving form the “one-off, well designed tiles” that they were know and specialised for and moving to live service games.

All of this is leading up to the release of Bayonetta 3 the return of their flagship series after almost 8 years in October (releasing exclusively on Nintendo switch) with fans extremely hopeful for a good game in light of this new direction.

Form the looks of it the failure of Babylon has driven Platinum to going back and expanding their roots into bigger titles, what the company has in store and what Project GG will be is something we will have to see. The full Famitsu’s interview will take place on tomorrow on the 20th July.

With the gaming industry always changing it’s no surprise that PlayStation explores expanding into new models for their games, the live service model being one of them. The company has recently stated that by Q4/FY26 PlayStation Studios are set to release 10 games that follow the live service model, furthermore they said that by 2025 almost half of the PlayStation studios budget will be going into live service titles.

Sony has also shown its dedication the moving into the live service model with their latest strategically places acquisition of game Studio Bungie for $3.6 billion. This investment from Sony will in tern allow PlayStation to use Bungie’s talent and experience that they have gained from their previous live service tiles like, Halo and destiny 2 with destiny 2 being a majorly successful

MMOs have become a main part of the current day gaming scene. with titles such as Destiny 2, Final fantasy XIV and Genshin impact being financially successful. It was only a mater of time before Sony tried to take a slice of the pie, and with one of the latest patents filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment it suggests just that.

The filed patent shows a new processing system with a cloud system acting as a central compute. each individual compute system relays Information across a network into a central compute. Sony is most probably planning on using this on their future PlayStation titles that land on the current generation of console the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and this patent could also be a suggestion that Sony is planning on welcoming more third party MMOs to their platforms.

With this major shift from Sony, PlayStations traditional single Player, story focused games many are concerned that Sony will depart from this formula almost all together However fans don’t need to worry as Sony have said they still want to make immersive single player games to add the the PlayStation library of games but live service and multiplayer titles will be an addition to the PlayStation line up. with titles such a Horizon forbidden west just releasing and with one of the most anticipated games of 2022 in the pipe line God of war: Ragnarök PlayStation seems to have a long lasting future with these types of games

A remake of the cult classic ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’has been announced by Dragami games.

Publisher Dragami games has announced that it is developing a remake of the cult-classic action game Lollipop Chainsaw.

The remake is slated for a 2023 release however no consoles have been announced for the game to be released on so far.

Yoshimi Yasuda was previously the CEO of the company Kadokawa Games, which published Lollipop Chainsaw. He was also the executive producer on the game.

Yasuda left Kadokawa Games recently, and established a new company ‘Dragami Games’ , and now he has confirmed that remaking Lollipop Chainsaw is one of the company’s first projects.

In a tweet posted online , Yasuda said: “Unfortunately, various factors resulted in things making it so that fans can no longer easily play Lollipop Chainsaw, and it has been some time since players have not been able to access the game on current consoles.”

He also goes on to say:

We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us, and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot.

Yasuda purchased the intellectual property rights from Kadokawa games, so they could remake the game. He also contacted  Warner Bros [who were the game publishers outside of Asia] about development, and are being supported by them to remake the game.

Yasuda said that while most of the original staff are working on the remake, some parts of the game will be different from the original ,released just over 10 years ago.

For example, many of the licensed tracks from the original soundtrack will have to be substituted with new original music.

He then talks more about the remake:

“Additionally, since we have access to consoles with higher specifications, we will be taking a more realistic approach to the graphics this time.” This could make the game seem very different, as the originals wacky charm was only exemplified by the arcade look and feel.

“In any case, our goal is to make it easier for gamers who want to play Lollipop Chainsaw to do so. Please look forward to the game’s 2023 release.”

The game was originally released in 2012 for ps3 and Xbox 360, and never saw a re-release or a PC release.

Nintendo’s Mario Kart Tour has been a successful hit on the mobile market peaking the interests of many fans revisiting some familar tracks that had previously appeared as DLC for previous titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Since Nintendo’s characters has always remained exclusive on their platform on the switch there are rumors of the possible transition to pc. This infomation was reportedly gathered though the data mining on the latest update that was featured. People have found out the use of external inputs such as Controllers, tablets and mouses for the Ios and Andriod versions of the games. Granted this could be seen as innovations on development and the company trying new things however, its confirmed that Google play games for pc service will be coming some point later down the line. There are other talks about code within the games files running on emulation mode which further enphasises the idea of the games might come to Google play games. This would be a beneficial since some of Nintendo’s mobile titles could get additional content produced through mods on the pc allowing the player base to have access to player made content maps, characters and Storyline. These leaks have been around for around several months now and the chances were rather slim it was only recently with new leaks of a potential releases that it may become a possiblity.

Its evident that other platforms are beginning to find a middle ground an example of which Xbox and Playstation still have exclusives but commonly have games that are crossplay that allows friends to join one another. Maybe this could be Nintendo’s first step on spreading their ip over to other platforms starting with pc perhaps. If this is the case it will bring gamers of all types of games together going forward. Nintendo has always done a good job staying in the market since their exclusives have always been high quality products therefore by chance if they were to expand their market such as pc and continue to sell at their premium priced products then they could make very high revenue.

As previously mentioned none of this is official since Nintendo Themselves have not made any announcements to confirm any of these speculations so its best to say to keep it a rumor until further notice.

RockStar Scrapping Remasters For both Red Dead Redemption as well as GTA 4

A Insider at Rockstar games known as tez2 has claimed that the RockStar have supposedly scrapped both projects. He found claimed on Twitter That both games will not be coming to fruition. He leaked this information accurately due to the company past with GTA online content within the source code.

According to a Reliable source Rockstar was clear on there motives with the two titles. Both a Remaster of both GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption were coming to next generation consoles. This was on the table for the company , but they instead decided to not go ahead with the projects as they believed the remakes would not be well perceived. saying that ”The poor reception of the trilogy DE might be a reason behind that decision.”

Rockstar Released the brand new Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive edition in early November 2021. Rockstar promised a modern Remaster of All the GTA titles From Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

With Any new release there will be expected hiccups naturally. The game was release with a high number of technical issues as well as game files and documents which wasn’t meant to stay in the games files. Files such as Unlicensed music and developer notes , which could show data miners the plans for the games future hidden within the game itself. This would be good information for Data miners to find and leak to the gaming community which would build hype of said plans coming to the game. On the other hand Rockstar like to keep what they are planning and working on a secret so they would have removed these documents as to not spoil their potential plans.

Rockstar apologized for the state of the game to the fans and they had promised the community they would update the game to fix the current state of the game. They mentioned updating regularly to for fill this promise to the community.

Even with the many issues with the launch of the title Take-Two Interaction (Rockstar parent company).

CEO Strauss Zelnick claimed in January that the games launch of the GTA trilogy had performed ”great” since its release January. The sales figures for the game in February had sold 10 million copies since its release in November.

Original Vs Remaster

From the images above you can see on the Left is the first release of the game back in 2008 and the right in 2022. You can see the graphical different between the two images , the 2022 remaster does a perfect job of bringing us the same game and feel but making it look beautiful.

The main difference between these new titles are as follows: graphics modes, improved texture qualities, HDR options and ray tracing, faster loading, GTA Online Profile migration. However The visuals were shortly look past by the the many bugs presented in the game on launch but Rockstar have promised to fix them with regular updates.

However Modders have taken things into there own hands by trying to improve the games performance to help save the title from failing. Modders say they want Rockstar to make big changes to help the titles major flaws. These flaws have put some Gamers off GTA due to how negligent Rockstar can be towards certain titles or bugs etc.

According to the game post, Bungie (the developers of games such as halo and destiny) have been spotted creating a collaboration with a rising titan within the Chinese gaming industry, NetEase.

This collaboration is said to be for producing the new “unannounced FPS mobile game” which happens to be alongside the claim that NetEase has on a new Destiny game for well over two years, as well as the fact that it seems to be a new title instead of a mobile version of Destiny 2. Furthermore TGP reported last year on a large amount of job listings for a mobile title in the Destiny franchise.

To top that all off there’s more information about Bungie beginning work on their own game engine for mobile, seemingly taking them one step closer to the mobile market of gaming. This plan is only furthered more by their partnership with NetEase due to NetEase’s expertise in the mobile gaming industry.

Quite a few videos have been made covering the topic and the post announcing this information that was gathered from a LinkedIn profile of an game artist at NetEase.

the CEO of Bungie, Pete Parsons has said that NetEase has “a significant amount of experience in mobile we don’t have” as well as the fact that the partnership will allow them to “incubate new ideas”. Furthermore Pete said “We want to be able to build games that are inspiring people from around the world, and this partnership in part will allow us to do that, to begin that incubation and development process in a real way,” which further shows both sides devotion to the concept of a mobile Destiny game as well as Bungies devotion to entering the mobile gaming industry.

Sony stated in early January of this year that they intend to acquire Bungie in a deal worth over 3 billion, which relates further to Bungies other aims at expanding the Destiny universe, such as they’re active attempts at hiring to get into the filming industry, that of which is being furthered and realised due to the acquisition by Sony. Totaki stated that “Bungie want to nurture the IP they have in a multi-dimensional manner” – “For that, we believe we can help” – “Bungie can leverage our platform so that their IP can flourish and grow”, allowing Bungie the ability to utilize their Platform as a home for the new project supposedly in the works.

Sony plans to address the inconsistency of its PS Plus line up regarding hertz (Hz) frequency

During the fifth generation, when the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 were the current gen consoles, frequency refresh rates of televisions differed between regions, with PAL, (Europe, Africa, parts of Asia and Oceania) operating with 50Hz (Hertz), roughly 20% slower than NTSC (North America and Japan) being being 60Hz. Ultimately, depending on whether you grew up on either PAL or NTSC, these versions might feel off and PAL versions are generally inferior, given that NTSC were usually the target.

The difference on the current gen consoles is either completely gone or almost unnoticeable but what makes this obvious with the PlayStation‘s recently revamped Plus service, is the opening message on many of its games, saying “Sony Computer Entertainment Europe”, which were all 50Hz. As an emulation of the original games, they will contain everything specific to their release, including the locked 50 or 60Hz.

The mismatch of versions was an issue Sony had with the PlayStation Classic, released in 2018, as a mix of PAL and NTSC region games was a key negative bought up in reviews. With PS Plus, Ape Escape, Everybody’s Golf, Jumping Flash, Kurushi, Syphon Filter, Wild Arms and Worms World Party are PAL region, whilst Tekken 2, Mr Driller and Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee are NTSC.

On June 23rd, PlayStation Europe posted a tweet to claim their work on NTSC options for a majority of classic games, being specific in that this patch will not be for every game.

Four months after launching exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, role-playing simulation game Rune Factory 5 will be coming to Steam this July.

The latest installment of the Rune Factory series, launched in March 2022, just four months ago on the Nintendo Switch. Now, publishers Marvelous and XSEED Games have announced they will be bringing the console’s fully updated version to PC, along with graphical enhancements, new features and several downloadable packs for a fuller gaming experience.

The action role playing game, which originally started life as a spin off of the farming sim series Harvest Moon, delivers a full 3D adventure which sees players exploring expansive dungeons and battling dangerous monsters to unravel a mystery surrounding their charming home of Rigbarth. Between days of adventure and exploration the player will tend their farm, participate in local events and build meaningful friendships with a cast of quirky lovable townsfolk.

Beyond the new story and setting, Rune Factory 5 also introduced many well received new features into the franchise such as link attacks and co-op cooking. This also includes the long sought after option for same-sex marriage, something which the community considers to be a groundbreaking change for the series. However, most of the gameplay experience remains unchanged from previous entries, with the player needing to farm, craft and battle monsters to progress.

Rune Factory 5 will also be releasing with a ‘Digital Deluxe Edition’, featuring 13 exclusive outfits based on characters from Rune Factory 4 and have a handful of Downloadable Content available at launch. On top of this, owners of Rune Factory 4 Special on Steam will have access to costumes of past protagonists Lest and Frey, while fan favorite characters Doug and Margaret will come to live in Rigbarth as guest NPC’s.

In celebration of Rune Factory 5‘s release on PC, Steam is offering a 15% discount on pre-orders for both the Standard £49.99 release and the £59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, as well as exclusive pre-order only costumes.

A lawsuit between Bungie and cheat creating company, Elite Boss Tech is settled, admitting to violations of the DMCA

Destiny 2 is an online only first person shooter developed by Bungie and released in 2017. To this day, it continues to receive updates, so it has an active player base. This popularity has resulted in the game has been the target of a company specialising in cheats, called Elite Boss Tech, resulting in a lawsuit.

Back in August 2021, Bungie filed a lawsuit against Elite Boss Tech for multiple copyright infringement violations and had since been a back and forth between the two, likely leading to a full trial, as a settlement wasn’t clear, until the latter concluded the fight. The company’s owner, Robert James Duthie Nelson and other defendants agreed that the software adds an unauthorised “graphical overlay” in game, injecting third-party code into Bungie’s copyrighted code, which falls under “unauthorised derivative work”

They also agreed that the software fell under the direct violation of the DMCA’s anti-circumvention provisions by circumventing specific measures Bungie created, to control access files and assets in the game. This was all stated to have been done willfully.

The result of the agreement is a payout of around $13,530,000, as the software was downloaded 6,765 times, with each download was seen as a infringing circumvention device, committing statutory damage of $2,000.

The hacks were sold on a subscription basis, $19.95 CAD per month for one or a “VIP subscription for multiple games for $29.99 a month. They still operate, selling cheats for Halo Infinite, Counter Strike: Go, Apex Legends, Warframe and more.
