Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have released the first images for their upcoming Marvel’s Avengers DLC that includes the exclusive character, Spider-Man.

Fans became excited last week when the release date for the DLC titled “With Great Power” was announced, and now they get to be even more excited by these images.

With Great Power DLC

With Great Power DLC references the iconic slogan used in the original Spider-Man’s comic and will be released on November 30 and is exclusive to PS4 and PS5.

The released image gives fans a glimpse of Spider-Man’s outfit, which largely follows the high-tech designs from recent media such as the Spider-Man films and Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. It also looks as though this version of Peter Parker will be a new interpretation of the character. One notable difference is the hands and soles of his costume feature a black, rubber-like protective material. Spider-Man is also starring alongside noticeable, Marvel characters in the backshot too.

It was also confirmed a while back the With Great Power DLC will feature an interesting story and new cutscenes. Previously, Square Enix released the War for Wakanda DLC which added a new storyline and superhero, Black Panther, voiced by Christopher Judge, who played Kratos from God of War. Spider-Man’s voice actor has not been announced, yet we’ll likely get to hear Peter Parker’s voice in the upcoming reveal trailer.

Marvel Avengers players will no longer be able to purchase boosts with real money. In today’s announcement, the games official Twitter account said that the Hero’s Catalusts and Fragment Extractors will only be earn-able through in-game purchases.

Developers Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix first announced the option to purchase the boots with real money back in October.

This left players feeling upset and betrayed. They viewed the upcoming DLC as a pay-to-win style event which obviously takes away from the competitiveness of gaming. Especially considering it increased the amount of currency and experience earned.

Fortunately, it seems as if the outcry from fans has paid off. The boosts will no longer be available for purchase today. Great news.

Crystal Dynamics sent out an apology which addresses the concerns. They believed that they saw the consumables as an ‘option for an evolving player base’ and they weren’t pay-to-win as ‘they don’t offer power directly’. Nevertheless, they realised the fans were displeased with the decision and hope their retirbution ‘can be the first step in rebuilding fans confidence’.

Not First Time Marvel Avengers Receives Backlash

Marvel Avengers has been corrupted with controversy ever since its initial release. Here’s a list of some backlashes the game has received thus far:

• Avengers Opening Day Character Models
•  Multiple Early Access Windows
• Avengers Sony and Marvel Exclusivity
• Exclusives from outside the Games Sphere

If you would like to see the reasoning behind these explained in further detail, here’s a link explaining them all. Overall, fans weren’t impressed and neither should they have been. As a result of the lacklustre game-play, fans even made hilarious memes mocking the game.

Despite this, the game does seem to be making a resurgence due to its presence on the Xbox Game Pass. However, they still have a long way to go to make sure fans are fully back on side. For a game featuring Earths Mightiest heroes, it really needs to become just that bit mightier.

Adversely, Insomniac have seemed to have gotten the amazing part of Spider-man bang on! Make sure to pick up a copy of one of the best superhero games ever right here! Hopefully Square Enix take some inspiration from it.

It’s the news we have all been waiting for but it might not be exactly what you expected…

Tomb Raider celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this week and this is certainly one piece of news we can celebrate with.

Yes, that’s right, Lara Croft is finally making her debut on Nintendo Switch. Square Enix announced Tomb Raider will be ported to the handheld console to arrive in 2022, yet it might not be the games you are expecting.

If you were hoping for the games being ported to be the original trilogy, I am afraid you will be disappointed. Yet there’s still hope if the games chosen have a high success rate.

There will be two Tomb Raider games that will be ported to Nintendo Switch; Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, The two games are isometric action-adventure spin-off titles that were released on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and iOS in 2010, and on PS4, Xbox One, PC and iOS in 2014 respectively.

The games were originally developed by Crystal Dynamics and will be ported by Feral Interactive, which has ported Alien Invasion and Grid Autosport to Switch previously.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light sees players control Lara as she tries to defeat the evil Xolotl, a 2000-year-old ‘Keeper of Darkness’ who’s been resurrected in Central America. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris was the sequel and both games had multiplayer options, with the sequel increasing the option to have 4 players, each controlling a unique character with different players.

While it is easy to say the main title games would have been something for fans to get more excited about, Nintendo Switch is the perfect console to port these co-op games to since players will have the option to play it alone or with friends/family which the Switch has always had more variety in terms of games on offer that can be played with other people.

Hopefully, this is only the beginning of seeing Lara on the Switch and if Square Enix ever decides to remaster the original trilogy, we will get to see them on Nintendo Switch too.

Square Enix also announced its mobile game, Tomb Raider Reloaded will give players the option to decide which voice actor they would want to hear in the game. Players will be able to choose from, Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbins, Jonell Elliott, and Keeley Hawes (personal fave) as they play as Lara Croft.

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise and here’s a list of all the reasons it is so beloved by everyone.

Lara Croft has been a household name in what feels like forever, yet it has only been 25 years since the first Tomb Raider game dropped on SEGA Saturn. The franchise that was brought to you by Eidos Interactive, Crystal Dynamics, and later on, Square Enix carved a piece of video game history and has become one of the most popular franchises to date, let alone made Lara Croft one of the most famous heroines of all time.

Since the first video game release, it has been ported to many different consoles and has 19 games released in total, including the original trilogy, the reimagined trilogy during the 2000s, and the rebooted trilogy in the 2010s that sees a much younger Lara Croft in a more gritty setting. It has also had 3 movie adaptations, a Lucozade ad, a Guinness World Record, and so much merchandise you can get your hands on.

So here’s my mini piece on what Tomb Raider has meant to me throughout my life.

25 Years of Tomb Raider

Most fictional characters I love have had a huge impact on me in terms of how I shape myself and what attributes they hold that I resemble the most with, and one fictional character that has had a constant presence in my life is Lara Croft.

I remember as a little girl watching my Dad play Tomb Raider on the PC after he finished work and bonding with my brother as he played his version on the PS1. I couldn’t play the campaign as I was too young, but I still remember the adrenaline-pumping soundtrack that played during the ‘Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs’ level as Lara takes on a T-Rex. It gave a convoluted concept of what archaeology consisted of (as did most fictional archaeologists), but I loved it at the same time.

However, I was allowed to play the brilliant concept of Croft Manor, which was essentially a place for Lara to train and carries on through most of the games, giving Lara more and more mini-quests to complete and unlock bonuses, like in the trilogy that starts with Tomb Raider: Legend. It also included a butler who would frustratingly follow you everywhere and you would have to lock him in the fridge just to get him to stop. (That wasn’t just me, right?).

Eventually, I was old enough to be able to purchase a PS2 for myself and I set my eyes on the new revamped trilogy that will always have a place in my heart. I played Legend the most, thanks to the fact I lost my PS2 memory card so would constantly have to start from the beginning but I honestly didn’t mind one bit. The other games followed after when I got my hands on a PS3 and the rest is ancient history.

Lara Croft is going to continue to have an important place in my life as much as it does for plenty of people around the world and cannot wait to see what we have waiting for us in-store, like the sequel to the 2018 movie and the Netflix anime series, and hopefully, a new game on the way too that people discovering it for the first time can immerse themselves in.

Marvel’s Avengers is known for its variety of skins available and now it’s getting into the spooky season…

Crystal Dynamics has released the first Halloween-themed skin for its action role-playing brawler game, Marvel’s Avengers, and fans cannot wait to get a hold of it.

Marvel’s Avengers tend to take inspiration for its skins from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet sometimes it also takes it from the comic books, and this is one of those occasions. The video game published by Square Enix is constantly receiving updates and new content released in ties with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also expanding upon the Marvel universe available in the game for players to earn or purchase.

Capwolf

The new skin design is based on a Captain America comic from 1992 where Captain America is depicted as a werewolf on the cover of Captain America issue 405. There are some differences as Captain America’s fur on the comic book was black and the fur for the skin is white, yet carries the iconic concept over to the video game well and is possibly the most extravagant design the game has seen as of yet.

It is available to purchase from today in the Marketplace, yet it has still not been stated the price or whether it will be a rare, epic, or legendary skin.

It is highly possible that this is only the beginning of Halloween-themed skins available on offer, and with the recent zombie episode in the Disney+ Marvel show, What If…?, we might be seeing more horrific designs our way.

The official Twitter account for Marvel’s Avengers also tweeted that The Cosmic Threat Event is making its return from today until November 4th and gives fans the chance to earn Thor’s Enhancement Outfit and spooky nameplates along with it!

Fans of Marvel’s Avengers are also anticipating the video game’s first raid event that is meant to be happening sometime soon and will feature Klaw from Black Panther comics/movie as the antagonist.

The post Marvel’s Avengers: New Skins for Halloween Have Arrived first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Over the last 30 days Square Enix’s “Avengers” game, which at one point looked like a promising game, has struggled to break over 800 concurrent players on steam. Even with the boost of new players from the game coming to XBox game pass, “Avengers” has been doing worse and worse as the months go on.

And it just gets worse. Shortly after the game came to XBox Game Pass, Square updated “Avengers” to sell XP boosters, in a stark betrayal of a promise made in june of 2019, that the game would “Wont have won’t have random loot boxes or pay to win scenarios”

The XP boosters price varies, costing between 100 Credits to 500 Credits, or roughly $5 in real money. This also comes after a massive nerf to XP rates back in March, under the guise that the XP rate was “Too confusing” for new players.

Some players also worry that this marks a shift in direction, and that the free consumables offered currently will eventually be phased out, in favour of the game going for a full Free-to-play style.

While there is some debate as to if this change does constitute “Pay to Win”, given the game does not have any PVP, it is undeniable that the reception has been overwhelmingly negative. One reddit user, FantasticMeddler, wrote “SE and CD decided a long time ago that new players were their priority and those of us that pre ordered were paid beta testers. They could give a fuck for any existing players except the whales.”

Another, Motor_Structure7156 wrote in a separate post “They blatantly and repeatedly stated there would be no Loot Boxes or Pay-to-win mechanics. Labeling it `Pay-to-progress-a-bit-faster` is more accurate perhaps but it does not negate the lie that they told. If I am ignorant or disingenuous for calling a spade a spade and not a `human-tool digging interface appliance` then so be it.

As the game struggles to find a footing amid numerous other controversies, this will definitely not help “Avengers” in the long term. The game has struggled to hit a chord with any player base and came out into a market saturated with heavy hitters like “Destiny 2”, “Warframe” and “Borderlands”, so even this potentially drop-in-the-ocean controversy will be a big problem for the game going forward.

Peggy Carter is coming back to us in the voice form of one of the most popular video game characters ever…

The popular video game franchise, Tomb Raider, which stars one of the most beloved fictional archaeologists (others being Indiana Jones and Professor Hershel Layton) is turning 25 years old this year and it was announced a while ago that the series developed and published by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics would be getting a new adaption of the series to its lineup, in the form of an anime.

That’s right, Netflix somehow knew my favourite video game franchise and knew how much I love anime so decided to combine the two together for my benefit alone, and to top it all off, has now cast British-American actor Hayley Atwell to voice the iconic Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider Netflix Series

The Tomb Raider anime adaptation is one of many Netflix video game adaptations that are in the works, along with Sonic, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness and live-action Assassin’s Creed and Pokemon adaptations too.

It has been confirmed that the anime series will be a continuation of the story told in the 2013 reboot series that consists of the games Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This 2013 reboot saw a more naive, grittier version of Lara Croft so it can be expected the Tomb Raider anime series will be the same.

Hayley Atwell is most famous for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and joins an incredible list of female actors that have played and voiced the famous archaeologist- most famous being Angelia Jolie and Alicia Vikander in the live-action movie adaptions. Other voice actors for the video games include Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbins, Jonell Elliot, Keeley Hawes, and Camilla Luddington respectively.

Netflix has already done incredibly well with its previous video game adaptations. Castlevania has just finished after 4 seasons and is now receiving its own spin-off show; everyone and their mother is waiting for the continuation of The Witcher, so I have high hopes for this Tomb Raider anime adaptation already.

The sequel to the 2018 live-action movie is also in the works and it has been confirmed it will be written and directed by Misha Green, so there’s plenty of adventure still to come with Lady of Croft Manor herself.

Let’s hope Square Enix wants to announce a new game for its 25th anniversary too.

The highly-anticipated DLC for Marvel’s Avengers drops in under 24 hours and there is now an insight into what we can expect

A familiar face is about to join Marvel’s Avengers in ways fans have yet to experience him.

War for Wakanda DLC is the latest instalment that will be added to the action role-playing brawler video game. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, we shall also be reunited with the Black Panther himself, T’challa, voiced by Christopher Judge.

Comic Book Resources (CBR) spoke to the development team behind War for Wakanda, explaining what fans can expect from the DLC in terms of the gameplay and the characters involved.

War For Wakanda DLC

Hannah MacLeod, Writer, stated that the biggest thing the development team wanted to focus on was how T’Challa comes with an entire nation and go into depth with his character through that. She also mentions the team wanted to focus on how the characters fit into the overall story side of things with the Kree invasion (the main story arc in the DLC), and not just from a fan’s point of view.

Scott Walters, Senior Designer, goes onto explain how T’Challa addition to Marvel’s Avengers works with the rest of the Avengers and how they didn’t want to make anyone underpowered or overpowered because, “at the end of the day, we want everyone to have fun regardless of the hero they pick.”

T’Challa is going to be very much about buffing and debuffing both players and enemies alike. His skills of combat include; light combo, heavy combo, range attacks, and heroics. Walters goes onto describe if fans want to gain the most out of Black Panther, they will need to learn “the nuance of the skills, the rotation in which to apply them, and how to maintain all of those buffs and debuffs to be most effective.”

Players will get to play as Black Panther as well as explore the Wakanda biome, a brand new biome that stands out from all the biome previously featured, due to being outside of the US, and features the “technological utopia blended with nature” fans see in the MCU adaptation.

Also from the MCU adaption, we met Ulysses Klaue, who will be the main enemy for players to defeat but will see him in a new, unexplored light.

He was also really fun to tap into just in terms of his personal vendetta against Wakanda. It’s so similar to T’Challa’s backstory; they’ve both lost fathers to things that they consider unfair. It makes them almost alike enough to be dangerous, almost as if they’re too similar to be in the same room without butting heads. It wasn’t about just getting a big bad to punch; Klaue is someone who could say just the right things to make T’Challa snap. – Scott Walters, CBR.

Ulysses will be incredibly tech-savvy in the game with his sonic technology that the development team had fun creating a new damage type and a new enemy archetype. Players can expect to fight enemies with this sonic technology along with drones that will disorientate the player which you can tackle in solo or multiplayer.

A level of customisation can be expected for players with heroic upgrades and to the skills as well as through gear perks for players to tailor and fit T’Challa to fit their playstyle.

With the new War for Wakanda DLC attracting more Black Panther only fans, and this DLC being the latest instalment to a long campaign game, the development team wanted to make the campaign accessible to those playing the DLC by including the option to easily access it from the main menu. Fans that only want to play the War for Wakanda DLC can expect some spoilers from the main campaign but will be free to enjoy it for the DLC only nonetheless.

War for Wakanda DLC will be available on August 17 and added to Marvel’s Avengers at no additional cost for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia and PC.

More information has been released for Marvel’s Avengers Black Panther DLC

The long-awaited Black Panther DLC comes to Marvel’s Avengers next month and new information has been released regarding what players can expect.

If you aren’t familiar with the game, Marvel’s Avengers, developed by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, is an action role-playing brawler game that came out last year and features a wide array of classic superheroes that is constantly releasing DLCs for fans to enjoy.

War for Wakanda DLC

Black Panther’s T’Challa was one of the most highly anticipated characters to appear on the roster after its initial release, however, with the sudden passing of Chadwick Boseman last year, the developers decided to postpone the release. Currently, the future of Marvel’s Avengers is unknown after reports of staff moving to an unannounced project by Crystal Dynamics and the game’s sales decreasing, but the studio is on track to bring Wakanda to the game.

In order to give Marvel’s Avengers’ T’Challa his own unique perspective and help craft the game’s story, Square Enix hired Evan Narcisse as a Narrative Consultant and looked to his Rise of the Black Panther 2018 comic. In this, T’Challa is already well-established as the Black Panther and Wakanda’s ruler. He lacks a certain sense of doubt, thinking he has all the answers, and Narcisse explains that is the source of some of Wakanda’s troubles:

I think one of the cool things in this expansion is there’s tension between him and Shuri like we haven’t seen before about how best to move Wakanda forward. – Evan Narcisse

Ulysses Klaw, played by Andy Serkis in the MCU version, will also be making an appearance in the DLC. He also gains a corrupted vibranium form that gives him similar powers to those in the comics.

Christopher Judge to voice T’Challa

It has also been released in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that God of War‘s voice actor  Christoper Judge will be lending his voice to the role of T’Challa. In the interview, he explains how he initially turned the role down due to being fearful of being compared to the late Chadwick Boseman, yet has decided to let his performance stand on its own.

The War for Wakanda DLC releases in August and will hopefully enrich Marvel’s Avengers with new storylines and iconic worldbuilding.

Fans can be introduced to Evan Narcisse and Christopher Judge in a livestream later today on the Crystal Dynamics Twitch channel, at 17:30 GMT.

Yesterday, Sony announced it had acquired Nixxes Software, their second acquisition announcement from this week.

Herman Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, made an acquisition announcement over on Twitter, welcoming Nixxes Software to the PlayStation family. The studio has predominantly worked with various Square Enix Studios such as Crystal Dynamic, IO Interactive, and Eidos Montreal to port games for the Tomb Raider franchise, Marvel’s Avengers, and Deus Ex to PC. So what does this mean for PlayStation?

Microsoft has been the one to make studio acquisition headlines in most recent years with the company acquiring smaller studios like Double Fine, to larger studios like Bethesda last year. This has caused fans wanting Sony to step up their ante, but the company has been very deliberate with what studio it acquires.

Insomniac Games was PlayStation’s first official studio acquisition in 2019, which was no surprise to anyone given the fact the two companies have an extensive history creating franchises together such as Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and the recent Spider-Man games.

Earlier this week, Playstation announced its second major acquisition, Housemarque, another studio that has worked with the company in the past, including games such as Returnal (pictured below) and Matterfall. PlayStation is undoubtedly playing it safe and buying studios it already has a great relationship with, yet the Nixxus acquisition hints at future possibilities.

What Nixxes Software means for PlayStation

While the studio did help Playstation with the Killzone Shadowfall PS4 launch, this acquisition could be incredibly valuable to PC players. A lot of speculation had already begun with Nixxes being the ones to port Sony franchises to the PC after Herman Hulst hinted what players could expect in 2021 and 2022 regarding PC games.

“We’re still early on in our planning for PC. And Horizon Zero Dawn has been very successful. I think it shows there’s an appetite from gamers outside the PlayStation ecosystem to experience the amazing portfolio of games that PlayStation fans have enjoyed for years,” – Herman Hulst, PlayStation Blog.

Hulst also added that PC gamers are valued and PC releases will happen at the “right times”.
