Battlefield 2042 Season 1 is currently set for release in early June.

DICE‘s troubled title Battlefield 2042 finally has a release date for it’s battle pass-style upcoming Season 1 update. Early June is the time but it can’t ever be set in stone with the quite frankly horrible start to Battlefield’s life cycle. Even before release this game has been in a downward spiral, with the open beta last summer that gave everyone access to try the game early being pretty much unplayable to multiple delays to the initial release date of the game Battlefield has taken many many hits but DICE and EA are trying to turn this around with multiple hotfixes and patches to build up to the release of Season 1.

Season 1 is DICE and EA‘s attempt to copy the unbelievable success of Fortnite and Call of Duty Warzone‘s battle pass, a live service with plenty of features and unlockables for gamers to earn whilst playing with friends and against others in online competitive modes. Battlefield 2042 has taken such a reputation hit over the last 6 months with players leaving in droves with the PC edition of the game dropping below 1,000 concurrent players in April, a truly shocking amount from such a popular run of titles, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1, 4 and 5 all being massive successes for DICE and their publisher EA.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson was quoted last week.

This is one of the great franchises of our industry, built by one of the great teams in the industry, and our expectations are it’s going to continue to grow and be a really important part of our portfolio for many, many years to come.

This comes after many fans suggesting that EA and DICE have given up the crumbling franchise after flagship Halo Infinite was released with fans loving the newest addition to the long running franchise. Andrew Wilson had denied claims that Halo Infinite made Battlefields issues look more prominent after Halo’s impromptu release of a free multiplayer for all Xbox players.

Through all the stumbles EA are hell bent on sticking with Battlefield 2042 with multiple quality of life updates and listening to fans requests to add features that were expected such as a dynamic leaderboard to check on your stats mid-game(something that should’ve been featured since release). So does the future finally look bright for Battlefield 2042.

The post Battlefield 2042 Season 1 set for release after delays! first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Video Games Chronicle (VGC) have shared a ten-minute preview of the new Miami race track from the upcoming F1 22 game. The F1 22 game was announced two weeks ago and is available to pre-order from the EA store, here. 2022 marks the first official time that EA have worked on the game fully alongside usual developer, Codemasters. The F1 game is set to be released July 1 2022.

In the meantime, VGC have been given access to a preview version of the new game. They will be publishing their views next week but have been allowed to share a 10 minute preview of the new Miami race track. Miami is joining the official F1 calendar this year, with the race set to take place this weekend. The 10 minute video marks the new addition to the tracks in both game and reality.

You can watch the footage either on VGC’s website, or on their YouTube channel.

According to VGC the game footage was captured on a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 running at 1080p on High settings. VGC also pointed out that the game is still two months away from release so some changes may be made to the game between then and now and it would be unfair to judge it at this stage.

True to life?

In a bizarre turn of events, F1 22 fans could see the footage before any F1 cars had raced there in reality. Codemasters told Gamebyte how they were able to build the track in-game before it had been built in real life. This included making use of the new partnership with EA, to share assets with the Madden NFL team. You can compare the footage from the game with real-life footage from the Miami track, shown earlier today by Sky. Watch it below.

The new track is set around the Hard Rock Stadium, used for the Miami Dolphins. It is a narrow street-circuit. It features three long straights – two of which are ridiculously long – and 19 corners. The narrowness of the track might limit the amount of overtaking available in the race. However, Formula 1 has made several regulation changes this year, in the hopes to make racing closer and following other cars easier. You can read about the new regulations changes here.

Changes to the Game

The new F1 22 game will include these new regulations and new-looking cars. Lee Mather, the Senior Creative Director in F1 at Codemasters, confirmed that they have updated the “physics” to “accommodate” the new aero and tyre rules. He said it would make the game “more true to life.” However, it is hard to say what impact it will have on the actual gameplay. The game will also receive new AI adaptability, designed to make it easier for new players. Furthermore, there will be two new ‘Immersive’ and ‘Broadcast’ race-modes to make it either more challenging or cinematic.

There is set to be a new race in Las Vegas as well in 2023. This would mean three races in the USA – further signs of the growing interest in Formula 1 after the Netflix hit Drive to Survive. The F1 22 game will feature the new Miami track as well as changes made to the Australian and Abu Dhabi tracks. Fans that pre-order the Champions Edition of the game before May 16 will receive a “time-limited Miami-inspired content pack.”

EA Sports F1 22 is available to pre-order here and is available across Xbox, PlayStation and PC – and will be compatible with VR.

Happy May 4th Star Wars fans! And with the latest sales on Steam, Epic Games and Origin, Star Wars fans certainly have plenty to celebrate.

Star Wars Galore

Steam have arguably the biggest sale on for Star Wars fans. The PC games store has a number of bundles on offer. The first is the Complete Collection which includes 26 classic Star Wars games – including the fan favourites Knights of the Old Republic and 2005’s Battlefront 2. This bundle is on offer for £56.95 with up to 75% off its products. The second is the Jedi Knight Collection – this collection features five games for £6.81. Another bundle on offer is the X-Wing Series which features the fighter games from the 90s. This is priced at £7.53. In addition, there is the Classic Collection which features the same X-Wing Games alongside other Star Wars games from the 90s, including Star Wars: Rebel Assault 1+2.

The Complete Collection features all the games in the other collections.

For those fans that don’t want to be overloaded with nostalgia, however, fear not. Steam also have an EA Bundle on offer. This triple bundle gives you the Star Wars: Squadrons, Jedi Fallen Order Deluxe Edition and 2017’s Battlefront II. The triple bundle is priced at £26.30.

The triple EA Star Wars Bundle is also available on the Epic Games Store. The bundle is priced there at £26.39. Origin, EA’s Store, offers the same bundle for the same price. However, it also offers a series of Battlefield Expansion Packs and a Season Pass, each for under £5.

Other Consoles

Meanwhile, for those that don’t want the PC versions, Xbox and PlayStation are offering a sale as well. Both Xbox and PlayStation are offering a whole host of Star Wars games for around 75% off each game on average. However, whereas both consoles are offering the EA games at a discount, only Xbox is offering the aforementioned triple bundle. Xbox has it priced at £26.39, the same as Epic and Origin.

New Star Wars Games Coming

Besides the games on sale, Star Wars fans have yet another new game coming there way. Skydance New Media are partnering with Lucasfilm Games to create a new narrative, driven story. The announcement follows a sea of other Star Wars games. The raft of upcoming games includes a remake of Knights of the Old Republic by Aspyr for PlayStation 5 and PC, a Ubisoft open-world Star Wars game, and a Jedi: Fallen Order sequel by EA and Respawn. Respawn are also making their own standalone Star Wars game. And if that wasn’t enough there is also Star Wars Eclipse being developed by Quantic Dream, set during the High Republic. Although, that game isn’t expected for 3-4 years.

With these sales on, the recent, and very successful, release of the Lego Skywalker Saga game, the upcoming Kenobi series and these upcoming games, Star Wars fans certainly have plenty to celebrate.

F1 22 Coming in July

Codemasters have released a trailer and announced the release date for this year’s official Formula 1 game. The F1 game is set to be released July 1 this year and is available to pre-order now.

Codemasters was recently acquired by EA and this F1 22 game marks the first fully developed EA Sports Formula 1 game. You can watch the trailer below, although be warned it reveals nothing specific about the game and doesn’t include any gameplay.

New Regulations in Formula 1

This year marks a new era for Formula 1 as the championship has undergone the most drastic overhaul of the regulations for years. The cars have new aerodynamics with ground effect being allowed for the first time since the 1980s. The regulations have been designed to allow for closer racing between cars.

In the previous years, F1 cars struggled with overheating and being unable to overtake as they were stuck in the dirty air caused by the car in front. The new regulations aim to reduce the wake of the cars, allowing for closer racing. This includes a simplified front wing, winglets over the front tyres, underfloor tunnels and a wider rear wing. In addition, 18-inch tyres and wheel covers have been introduced. However, despite the simplified wings and removal of bargeboards, the cars are still heavier this year. This is partly due to the larger, heavier tyres but also due to the new crash structures that have been designed to improve safety.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is coming to Xbox Game Pass. According to Community lead at Xbox Game Pass, Megan Spurr, Ubisoft are bringing several games to the library. These games include Assassin’s Creed Origins and For Honor: Marching Fire Edition. For Honor will be available on PC via the Ubisoft Connect app, whilst Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available on console, cloud and PC as well.

The game is set to arrive in the library within the “next two months” but, as of yet, no specific date has been given.

Ubisoft already has some games on the Xbox Game Pass, including Rainbow Six: Extraction, but Origins will be the first of the Assassin’s Creed series to join the library. For Honor was also already on the Game Pass but this means the Marching Fire Edition will be a free update for those who already have it.

Next-Gen Updates for the Assassin’s Creed Series

Last December, Ubisoft tweeted that they wanted to introduce 60fps support for 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins, making it available for a next-gen release on Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5. In August last year, they released a 60fps version of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – originally released in 2018 – that was able to run on these two consoles when using backwards compatibility.

The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship?

Ubisoft seem to be becoming more open to the Xbox console. In January they announced that they would be bringing their Ubisoft Plus subscription service to Xbox, although it will remain a separate subscription from Games Pass. Previously, Ubisoft Plus only included PC compatibility. That same month, they put Rainbow Six: Extraction on Xbox Games Pass the same day it was released. Combined with the desire to update their games to run on the next-gen Xbox, these decisions make it seem Ubisoft want to tap into the Xbox market.

Other games to arrive on the Xbox Game Pass include 7 Days to Die and Bugsnax. These games look set to arrive in the library next week. You can see the full list of arrivals and dates on the Xbox blog here. Available today on Xbox Games Pass are F1 2021 and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. Both these games are supplied by the EA Play subscription after EA joined the Xbox Games Pass, allowing players to access this membership at no extra cost. Whereas, Ubisoft’s Plus subscription will remain separate.

It marks a good week for Assassin’s Creed fans then, after Ubisoft also released a new update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Battlefield Update Coming Next Week

Battlefield 2042 is to receive over 400 bug fixes and improvements in its next update. According to Kevin Johnson, Community Manager for EA DICE, the game is set to receive Update 4.0 next week. Johnson tweeted the announcement on April 13th and shared some of the “key” features that DICE are bringing to the game. Let’s have a look at what these features include.

Changes to Specialist Characters

The first update mentioned is changes to Battlefield‘s new Specialist System. Johnson announced that characters Rao and Paik are to have their traits updated. Specialists are one of 2042’s new addition to the Battlefield gameplay and feature 10 characters each with their own speciality and trait. However, this new system has received a large amount of backlash from fans, who say it ruins gameplay and is merely a means of monetisation and micro-transactions – a feature no stranger to EA players. EA announced that they would address these issues, however Johnson confirmed that this update is merely focused on three of the characters individually.

Rao, a Hacker or Recon character, has a Trojan Network trait, in which a player must kill an enemy to then reveal the locations of other nearby enemies. Paik, another Recon character, has a Threat Perception trait that allows players to automatically spot the enemies that are inflicting damaging on them. It is not stated yet what the updates to these traits will be, but perhaps it will make the traits less cumbersome to use or more rewarding – a complaint that has been levelled at these characters. Sundance, an Assault character, is also being updated with fixes to her Grenade belt allowing for better “target acquisition”.

XP Updates

Update 4.0 also brings a string of updates towards Battlefield‘s XP and award system. Johnson announced that updates are coming to the Ribbon system, which should allow players to upgrade more easily in game modes such as Rush. Rush, in which one team must detonate charges while the other defends, has been a staple franchise game mode since Battlefield: Bad Company. It was removed from Battlefield 2042 but after severe backlash, the developers returned the game mode to the Battlefield franchise. In addition to the Ribbon system, the updates also focus on XP for support actions and teamplay to “ensure teamwork remains king.”

Attachments

Next on the list of features receiving an update are weapon attachments. Attachments have long been another staple of the Battlefield series and received an update with the launch of 2042. The ‘Plus System‘ allowed players to quickly change attachments while on the move. However this feature also faced criticism, with players complaining that the attachments were either not working or looked too similar. According to Kevin Johnson, Update 4.0 seeks to face these criticisms head-on, with a focus on making sure the attachments feel unique.

Vehicles

Finally, the last major change listed focuses on the vehicles in 2042. Johnson tweeted that the vehicle warfare will undergo “balancing” with the intention of making the battle between vehicles and infantry less one-sided and “still has some bite!” In addition, a major bug is being addressed after many players experienced no ADS – meaning they couldn’t aim – after they exited a vehicle.

Desperate Times for DICE?

Next week can’t come soon enough for the developers at EA DICE, after reports that Battlefield 2042‘s Steam player count dropped below 1,000. Steamcharts‘ data suggests the average player count for the last 30 days sits around the 1,800 mark. In comparison, recent hit Elden Ring has an average of around 351,000 and long fan-favourite CS:GO reached up to 575,000 players in the last month.

Battlefield 2042 has been beset with issues from the start. And while DICE seem to be addressing the problems fans are facing with Battlefield 2042, the number of problems the games still has suggests it will be a long road ahead.

Battlefield 2042 has had a rough few months since its launch. Its scrapped a lot of series staple features, it doesn’t run well (to the point that cheat developers have abandoned the game), and its player base is consistently lower than that of Battlefield five, the also maligned previous entry in the series. Hell, the game doesnt even have a scoreboard and will only be getting one in February.

Industry insider Tom Henderson on Twitter is painting an even bleaker picture of this game. In one tweet he stated:

“For those asking, I dont know whats going on at the moment with Battlefield 2042 because I dont think *they* know whats going on. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place and it’s going to be genuinely difficult (if not impossible) to fix the game.”

He went on to say, regarding EA’s upcoming earnings call:

“We’ll probably get the following on the game during their earnings call on Feb 1st “BF2042 failed to meet expectations on launch, but we have a strong live service planned which we will announce soon” – But I’m hoping analysts will put pressure on EA to get answers.”

This is the same sort of statement said about Anthem before its cancellation and closure, so thinks are really looking down for the struggling game.

Later, Tom Henderson would return with even more news, saying that EA is disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 has performed, and may even be looking into taking the game to be free to play to some extent. Originally saying more would come the next day, it was actually 2 days later that Henderson would post a youtube video to his channel titled “BATTLEFIELD 2042 FREE TO PLAY? – Player Numbers, Analyst Opinions. Legal Consultation, and MORE!”. You can check out the video here.

It should be noted that even if this ends up true then this isn’t necessarily the whole game going free to play, maybe just a part of it like the portal mode for example.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has just weighed in with his opinion about the concept of Play-To-Earn games. The highly successful entrepreneur has expressed his optimism of the possibility, and personally believes the huge change to the gaming world will happen in the not so distant future.

This should come as no surprise for those familiar with Ohanian, as the industry figure has recently turned his business attention to blockchain and crypto-related projects.In a latest episode of Where it Happens podcast, Ohanian referenced the potential uses of blockchain tech and what it could mean for the future of gaming.

“90% of people will not play a game unless they are being properly valued for that time,” Ohanian claimed in the podcast. “In five years, you will actually value your time properly, and instead of being harvested for advertisements, or being fleeced for dollars to buy stupid hammers you don’t actually own, you will be playing some on-chain equivalent game that will be just as fun, but you’ll actually earn value and you will be the harvester.”

Why Do Play-To-Earn Games Use Crypto?

Generally, Play-To-Earn games use Crypto Tokens instead of regular in-game currency as players can then exchange their in-game earnings for real-world currency. As a result, the exchange is kept simple and effective which allows everyone across the globe to get involved. One major example which uses this model is Axie Infinity, where people can buy and sell Axies for RONIN cryptocurrency.

However, it should be noted that this doesn’t come without its issues. According to a Business Insider report, Axie’s in-game economy is already stumbling into some trouble, as players returns from the game are shrinking over time because gamers cash out their earnings instead of investing them back into the game. This could cause trouble for the game economy’s sustainability, especially when considering the $300 buy-in minimum which may cause gamers to be even more hesitant.

Despite this, other industry figures still continue to show their interest in the concept. Studios such as Take-Two, EA and Square Enix all seem to be lining up in anticipation to get on board, making Ohanian’s comments seem very much possible. What’d do you all think on the issue? Just when the Premier League is starting to go a bit pear-shaped with COVID postponements, it looks like football fans are having to get their sporting fix another way. It has been revealed that FIFA 22 has topped the UK’s Christmas sales chart this festive period. What a success for EA!

It has to be noted that this only takes into account physical releases, but nevertheless it’s still an achievement the footballing title should be proud of. In what should be the busiest time of year for football in England, there seems to be a never ending list of cancelled fixtures and covid-related incidents which have marred what is many fans favourite time of the year.

As such, this could of had a great impact on the sales this time of year. However, FIFA does also tend to perform around this period too, so it shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise, should it?

Additionally, in second place was the newest edition in the Call of Duty franchise- Call of Duty Vanguard. This was then followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, who were caught in a fierce battle as less than 200 sales separated the two. We wonder who could’ve made the difference in sales for that one (a certain celebrity comes to mind).

The new entries on the list were certainly not new titles when it comes to us having played them, but are both new releases it regards to these editions. If that’s confused you a bit, basically what I’m alluding to is the fact that the new additions are Among Us and Grand Theft Auto: The Definitive Edition. Both have received new versions this year, which look to be doing well. However, it should be acknowledged that whilst GTA sales seem to be fine, the game itself is struggling with a variety of issues.

Hazelight’s action-adventure took home 3 awards at last night’s Game Awards

Last night was packed full of gaming celebrations, highlights, and surprises at The Game Awards 2021 in Los Angeles. So many iconic games from this year picked up awards for their impact on the gaming community, as well as plenty of announcements for future releases and adaptations.

But there was one game that took home the top prize of the night, as well as 2 other awards, and that was It Takes Two. 

The Game Awards Winners

If you aren’t aware, It Takes Two is a co-op action-adventure game developed by Hazelight and published by EA. It is specifically designed for split-screen cooperative multiplayer and sees players play as the couple Cody and May, two humans that have been turned into dolls by a magic spell. Trapped in a fantastical world, they’re put through challenges of saving their fractured relationship by the love guru Dr. Hakim.

It Takes Two took home the top prize of the Game of the Year award as well as the awards for Best Multiplayer and Best Family Game too.

Other games that took home multiple awards included Forza Horizon 5 for Best Sports/Racing, Best Audio Design, and Innovation in Accessibility. Deathloop, which had 9 nominations, ended up taking home 2 awards, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits won Best Indie and Best Indie Debut.
