It’s been an exciting 6 months here at Go2Games but it’s time to say goodbye…

It’s crazy to think that 6 months ago I was sitting down to write my very first article for the Go2Games, regarding how Super Mario World was now playable on a widescreen aspect ratio, and now I am writing my last.

it’s been a delight to work at the company for the short, yet sweet time I have been here and wanted to summarise my experience and what I have enjoyed the most in one last article.

My Time At Go2Games

Throughout my time here at Go2Games, I have constantly thought to myself about how lucky I am to have a job where I get to write about video games all day long. It really felt too good to be true when the job of Content Writer was offered to me, yet here I am, 6 months down the line, and I still have to pinch myself sometimes at the fantastic opportunity that was given to me. I truly understood the saying of finding a job you love and you’ll never have to work again because I have had a tremendous time writing about my favourite games whenever I can.

Something I have specifically enjoyed writing about is all the different collaborations that have happened/announced in the last 6 months. As an avid fangirl, I have always enjoyed the idea of showing how much you love something by wearing it and seeing all the cool collaborations has made me somewhat envious I cannot afford them all. The Pokémon Seiko watches certainly caught my eye, as did the retro gaming trainers made by The Sole Supplier. The craziest collaborations have to go to Xbox though, for managing to get a Gucci limited edition Xbox Series X console, Halo Infinite Swarovski Crystal Replica, and even getting a Halo Infinite painting commissioned for London’s Saatchi Gallery.

I have also enjoyed writing about the various video game adaptations that have been announced over the last half of the year. I was particularly excited to write about Hayley Atwell donning the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider anime series, as well as talking about the Halo live-action TV adaptation for Paramount+. Both projects I am excited to see when they are released.

Vice versa, I enjoyed writing about my favourite TV shows that are receiving video game adaptations. One of my most popular blogs is regarding the story arcs and characters revealed for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles which I am very proud of. I also got to write about the new RWBY game that is being released next year, as well as the video game in development for Netflix’s The Dragon Prince. It’s been a real joy to put my passion for these shows into my work and I am very grateful to have experienced this opportunity.

There have been so many unforgettable moments working at Go2Games that I could go on forever, but thank you to everyone that I got to work with and another thank you to anyone that clicked on any article I wrote. It’s been an honour.

New generation gaming is about to take off…

There haven’t been many exciting releases for the new generation console thus far, so for PS5 owners, it has been a slow burn up until now. You will be happy to know that this is due to change shortly, with the wealth of upcoming games being released in the second half of 2021. Apex Legends is climbing its way up and has players excited for the new collection event, ‘Genesis’ which will include the latest heirloom weapon for Revenant.

Apex Legends is a popular choice for anyone who is a  Battle Royale fan. Respawn intends to continue to keep players interested and has so far, been very consistent with their updates and always seems to be bringing brand new features for players to enjoy.  Their new updates and features include things such as the competitive 3v3 Arenas mode.

The most recent update, Genesis, gives fans a whole lot of content to enjoy. Such as; a brand new Arenas map based on the King’s Canyon location ‘Skull Town’. Fans will be more than excited to get their hands dirty with this new content and have one of their beloved locations return to the game. During the collection event, Skull town will show up in one-hour increments on the regular map rotation.

On top of all that (yes, there’s more), the latest collection also has new cosmetics. A recently released trailer goes into detail about what players should expect and also displays the new heirloom Weapon. As the job as a mercenary or hitman is no easy task, it is highly fitting for Respawn to bring the heirloom weapon to the franchise, by the official name is called the Dead Man’s Curve. It’s often known and associated with mythical creatures, the Grim Reaper and the Greek deity Thanatos (Pretty good right?).

The Epic Games Store has revealed their next free title.

First comes a puzzle game that follows a bit of a narrative (don’t we all love those? Well, at least I do…) the game is called The Spectrum Retreat and will be free to download from the 1st July to the 8th. If you enjoyed Stanley’s Parable or Superliminal, this game is right up your alley.

This game will replace Horizon Chase Turbo and Sonic Mania, but I would say at a pretty good cost. The Spectrum Retreat is a great experience and something unique to delve yourself into. Currently, Sonic Mania and Horizon Chase Turbo are free to download until the 1st of July from The Epic Games Store website. They usually cost around £15 each, so you’re better off taking advantage of that while you still can.

The Epic Games Store has appealed to over 150 million PC users since launching in 2018, Epic admitted this back in January and it’s there’s no wondering why, they are doing millions of players, money-saving favours. The company gives away free titles weekly which include over 103 game titles in 2020, which no doubt with the global pandemic, did many people therapeutic favours.  Overall, the games were worth over £1000, Epic mentions that players in total downloaded over 749 titles in 2020.

Epic Games almost spent  £12 million to secure titles for their regular free game titles giveaways in just a nine-month period (Yikes).  Epic Games gave 38 games away in the first nine months of the store being up, which included paying the developers a different buyout price. (Aren’t they just the sweetest?) You really can’t go wrong by taking a look at some of the free games they offer each week.

It’s almost impossible to think of something as phenomenal as having Pop-star Bebe Rexha will be featuring at the Sim’s 4 music festival.

Starting on 29th June, a music festival will be hosted by EA in the Sims 4 that will feature, the-one-and-only, pop star Bebe Rexha, a part of the wholesome indie band Glass Animals and Joy Oladokun, known to be both a singer and songwriter. The Sims 4 will have ‘Sims Sessions’ that will give players the opportunity to explore around the festival grounds, get their hands on some great merchandise and listen to some ‘sick’ tunes.

Even though virtual concerts in games isn’t something that is particularly new, EA seems to make it different by using their own Sim language to give their players a unique gameplay experience. It’s not only funny, but it’s memorable and will leave their players wanting more. Whereas in other games such as Avakin Life, we’ve seen performers such as Billie Eilish, Hayley Kiyoko and a few indie artists, it has become overused and more of an event that passes you by without leaving an impression. It’s fun to see the artist sing in their gibberish language and will fill many with a bit of joy, wondering how the artist would have recorded such great nonsense created by the legendary Will Wright.

This is no laughing matter, in fact EA take this very seriously and have been doing this for years, they’ve worked with over 500 artists since 2004 and intend to continue with their Sim gibberish fun like music. The Simlish language is very fun and has become so memorable over the years they’ll be having a karaoke event on Tik Tok where fans can brag about their Simlish knowledge. Xbox Game Pass has got Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered  as one of the games in their new lineup. Unfortunately, the service is also losing some games at the end of this month such as Monster Hunter World.  This was all announced on the official Xbox news website.

For those of you who are unaware Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that Microsoft has made available to players on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows 10 and some Android device due to Xbox Cloud Gaming.  This is becoming a unique selling point for Xbox as it lets players have fun with tons of games for one price.

Many different games will be making their way to the service between now and July 1. Worms Rumble, a multiplayer Worms game that launched on PS Plus, is available on cloud, console, and PC starting today.

On  the 24th, subscribers will have access to, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered (PC & Console), Iron Harvest (PC) and Prodeus ( also PC). On the 1st July five more games will come to Xbox Game Pass such as Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (cloud), Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars (console, PC and Cloud), Limbo (PC, console, and cloud), Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling (console, cloud and PC), Gang Beasts (cloud, console, and PC)

Even though some games will be leaving Xbox Game Pass, players always have the option to but those games with a 20% discount. The games that will be leaving Xbox Game Pass and the end of this month are: The Outer Wilds, Battle Chasers: Nightwar,Monster Hunter World, Soulcalibur VI, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, Mistover, Out of the Park Baseball 21, and The Messenger.
