Two trailers recently dropped for a Black-lead indie game in development, Nixie. The trailers were uploaded by David ‘TheStoryteller‘, who makes media analysis and social-political commentary videos about and from a Black-British lens. David got his start with videos on The Boondocks and his ‘Operation Black Steel’ series.

The Kickstarter is now live for 19 days (click the link to view more info on the project, money goals, donation rewards and more). David has stated the following regarding Nixie:

‘For the record, this is an all or nothing project. Either the demo gets funded and we make it, or it doesn’t and we don’t make it. If you want to support this concept, this is only chance to do it’.

Story, Gameplay & More: Nixie is an ‘Action & Visual Novel hybrid’ about ‘found family, communication and the demonization of African spirituality’. I’m especially interested in that last point thanks to Ransford James, (political science major and professional BJJ-Daddy) who has discussed the history and colonial impacts regarding views on Obeah.

Between the more comic/manga-inspired segments in the story, there are also retro-style sprites in a different style featuring a main character on some kind of magical Dorito hover board, suggesting flying shoot-em-up mechanics in a similar vein to Galaga or parts of Cuphead.

A Personal Moment: As a biracial… Well, tri-racial lefty Britbonger, I have a lot of love for David’s work and hope Nixie gets the backing it deserves. And as a drippingly optimistic theatre kid with aspirations of becoming his own auteur, seeing those behind Nixie achieve would do a lot to inspire young creative minds everywhere, myself included (at time of writing).

Today marks the end of my 9th week working at G2G.

It was a particularly interesting week, as I had my first appointment with my careers mentor from Elev8. We set some goals for my Kickstarter position. My first goal was to increase the speed at which I produce my product descriptions.

We’ve mostly been working on blogs at the moment, and I do find it much easier to meet my quota with those. I think it’s closer to what I’m used to writing, whereas I’m less familiar with the commercial writing required for product descriptions.

However, I’m studying SEO and improving in these aspects every day. In fact, I’ve improved a lot already since I started. My current goal is to increase my speed from 10 descriptions to 15 per day.

My other goal is to do with time management. If you haven’t read my personal blog before then you won’t know that I am also an aspiring novelist. As well as writing for Go2Games, I spend a lot of time writing for my own creative projects.

At the moment, I’ve been struggling to delegate time properly. I’m often writing during my break, and I’ve neglected to start my online course. I’m hoping to address this by managing my stress and organisation, starting with an update to my bullet journal this weekend.

In other news, I’m quite busy with the Genshin 2.3 update. Partially because I love Genshin, partially so I can keep delivering quality blogs that fully use all my Genshin knowledge. My Itto blog hit 70 views today, which is quite nice!

The popular JRPG series has so much content that fans want to make a guide for everyone that needs one…

Final Fantasy has been around for over 34 years now and has received multiple sequels, spin-offs, remakes, adaptations and even MMOs, so it is expected that fans are finding it more and more difficult to keep up with the lore of the series.

That’s why there are a group of fans who decided to launch a Kickstarter for an encyclopedia guide that will have everything you need to know regarding Square Enix‘s franchise.

The Legacy of the Crystal

Final Fantasy Union is attempting to create a comprehensive reference guide for enthusiasts and historians to better understand the Final Fantasy franchise which is titled The Legacy of the Crystal. 

In the guide, all 127 games created in the franchise will be represented, covering from the very first game released in 1987, to the upcoming game, Final Fantasy VII: The First Solider. The book will be separated into four sections covering Numbered Titles, Spin-off Titles, Sequels/Prequels, and Remakes. These sections will include stories of how each game was developed, covering the design philosophies and the themes conveyed in each entry as well as feature the wider story of Final Fantasy and how it became what it is today thanks to Square Enix saving the franchise from financial ruin.

The book will consist of 200-250 pages and a word count of approximately 60,000. There will be digital PDF, softcover and hardback editions up for grabs as different rewards for pledgers.

The Kickstarter project has already reached its pledged goal of £8,500 and is currently standing at £35,980 with the backing of 473 pledgers and still with 28 days to go, so there’s still time to back the project now!

The post Final Fantasy: Fans Launch Kickstarter for An Unofficial Encyclopedia Guide first appeared on Get2Gaming.

This week, we were focused on writing blogs, and I got to explore various topics.

The highlight for me was writing an article on the Attack on Titan x Sanrio collab – I even included my own art of Hello Kitty Erwin.

I would love to put my drawings to use more often in my articles when the opportunity arises! Another important article to me was this one on Battlefield’s first non-binary operative since I’m non-binary myself. Perhaps I’ll also pre-order Battlefield 2042 from the shop.

I’ve also been enjoying the spooky shenanigans for Halloween. I ran out of articles to write on on Wednesday, so I made an original article: a list of indie games for Halloween. Unfortunately, though, I had an episode related to a chronic illness, and on Thursday, I was out of action. I’m doing much better today. It seems I just needed to catch up on rest. On that note, I’ve postponed my Genshin stream – but I will get there! Perhaps I’ll stream my pulls for Itto?

A friend is hosting a Halloween party this weekend, and though I’m still feeling a little rough, it’s just a small get together, and I wouldn’t want to let my friends down.

I definitely need to make time for some spooky games though. Maybe something from our selection? I highly recommend checking out Emma’s article for a more detailed breakdown of some of the available titles.

As for other personal details, I’ve joined a new writing Discord for my creative work! Everyone seems rather nice and helpful.

A new board game is coming for fans of the survival horror game and you have a chance to back it!

Halloween is just around the corner but the survival horror genre is everlasting when it comes to the number of games you can throw yourself into. Resident Evil is no exception, especially with all the different games in the series, the multiple live-action adaptations it has received. a comic book series, and its very own board games.

Resident Evil: The Board Game

Steamforged Games published a board game for Resident Evil 2 back in 2017 and another for Resident Evil 3 set to release this November. The company announced last month it would be publishing another for the original Capcom video game that started it all. 

Resident Evil: The Board Game is a cooperative survival horror game for 1-4 players that sees players step into the boots of a S.T.A.R. member and enter the sinister Spencer Mansion to uncover the horrifying truths within. Search for secrets as well as survivors and try to survive the night with  crawling with enemies around you.

The  board game features the S.T.A.R. members Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, and Barry Burton as playable figurines and also includes a number of enemy figurines based on classic Resident Evil enemy NPCs.

The company stated it would start a Kickstarter campaign for the board game this autumn. The page finally launched yesterday and…

the board game is already completely funded!

As of writing this, Resident Evil: The Board Game has 4,691 backers and has raised a total of £761,540, which is roughly just over $1,000,000. The Kickstarter campaign still has 14 days to go to receive more funds and backers.

Resident Evil is a timeless series that hasn’t lost its wonder yet, and with more days to go, the board game is certainly going to grow from strength to strength and is the perfect celebration for the 25th anniversary!

My 4th week at G2G was very exciting. I didn’t get to post an update that week, as on Friday I was writing an important blog about an upcoming project! We have to be a little secretive for now, but it’s all very exciting, so please check it out. I talked a bit about my experience meeting the G2G team in Croydon for the first time, which was awesome.

The rest of my fourth week had me up to the usual stuff: blogs and reviews! I’m pretty happy to see my Genshin blogs are doing even better than my other blogs.

Speaking of Genshin, next week, I will be running a special stream on either Twitch or IG (I will keep ya updated!). Tune in to watch me have a mental breakdown as I throw all my primogems at Tartaglia’s banner. I may possibly even go for his weapon banner. So the chances of having a breakdown are pretty high! If I get that catalyst instead of the Polar Star, I WILL scream.

I’m also Tweeting from the G2G Twitter account now, just assume that anything funny or Genshin-related was posted by me.

In other news, I did some proofreading for a magazine interview this week! All my university assignments well prepared me to halve the word count. Not bad at all.

Anybody who is a fan of FromSoftware’s games in the “Souls-borne” series will know that they can be punishingly difficult to those who are new or unfamiliar with them. This is done with the intention of creating a deeper sense of accomplishment when overcoming one of the games many gruelling trials. It goes without saying that this difficulty is expected to be ingrained into FromSoftware’s upcoming title, Elden Ring.

In the recent Famitsu x Denegeki TGS 2021 stream, we were given some insight into the features that have been introduced to the game to make it more accessible to everyone. This doesn’t necessarily mean the game will be easier, it more-so suggests the player will have more options to deal with their adversaries, as well as some new mechanics that will make navigation of the games newly featured open world easier. The stream was translated by DualShocker employees, and they outlined the changes FromSoftware’s Yasuhiro Kitao revealed.

The Spirit Horse

One of the main features introduced is the Spirit Horse. The Spirit Horse is used to traverse the open world in a variety of ways, greatly improving the players manoeuvrability. The Spirit Horse can jump, double jump, and even use a booster of some kind to jump even higher. The player can fight from horseback, as well as leap from the horse into combat whilst it vanishes into thin air.

We’ve Got Options

Speaking of combat, the player can also make use of stealth mechanics – like those found in Sekiro – to get the jump on their enemy rather than engaging in full on combat. This means the player has more choices to make in terms of how they approach combat compared to previous titles.

Elden Ring could be considered a sum of all FromSoftware’s parts, as it features many mechanics and even animations from previous games, bundled together neatly with some fresh mechanics. The player themselves can jump now too in a way that looks less clunky than before. This means we can expect to see more verticality in the games level design.

Open World Exploration

The horse will also give players guidance to their next objective. Does this mean that the games direction will not be as obscure as previous titles? Hopefully not, as one of the most engaging parts of Dark Souls and other titles in the series is the idea of discovery and finding your own path rather than being told where to go. However, an open world also gives the player more agency over how they tackle the games challenges and gives them more choice over the way they play.

If players find themselves struggling to defeat a dungeon, they have the option to return to a previous area to grind and level their character. This means they will be better suited to face the challenges that lie ahead.

So that’s what was revealed by Kitao in the livestream which ended with him thanking FromSoftware’s fans for their patience and being thankful by understanding the lack of news surrounding the games development. From the looks of things though development is going very well, and I am beyond hyped for this to release.

The post New Features Included in Elden Ring Improve Accessibility first appeared on Get2Gaming.

My first two weeks at G2G seem to have passed in a flash! I really enjoy the work, from writing blogs to product descriptions, so the days seem to fly by.

My first week started off with a competition: whoever wrote the most content descriptions in the week would take home any game from the Go2Games shop. It was a very fast-paced and exciting week, and I raced to complete 72 descriptions – not bad! Despite the competitive spirit, all my colleagues were very friendly. Although we only get to talk remotely at the moment, we all get along well and have a lot of common interests. They’re a big part of why I’m enjoying working here so much.

To be honest, I was very anxious when I first started. I have experienced some toxic work environments at past jobs, and I often worried that with my anxiety issues I wouldn’t be able to find a job I really like. But everyone at G2G was so welcoming and not at all judgemental, and getting to write about my interests and passions stops me from feeling anxious at all.

We have quite a lot of creative freedom, which is fantastic. Today I was able to write about a topic that was very important to me as a queer person. Not only was I able to inform people, but it also served as an outlet for my frustration with the situation.

In my first week, I got to watch the Croydon Business Resilience Awards, which took place via a zoom webinar. Even though I had only been with G2G for a few days at the time, I couldn’t help but get swept up in the excitement when Go2Games took home two awards! Everyone is so passionate about their work here; it’s impossible not to. I channelled that excitement into the social media post I wrote for the result, which was posted on Instagram.

I do feel a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to churn out as many content rich descriptions this week, averaging at around 10 to 14 a day this week. Unfortunately, I’m a little unwell at the moment. I’ve been suffering from fainting spells with my anaemia, and so I’m often very tired. Due to the shortage of vials, I haven’t been able to have a blood test yet, but it seems like I’ll finally get one next week. The energy crisis doesn’t help either – it’s so cold in my house due to no heating, and with my health issues causing poor circulation my hands get really cold. It makes it a little difficult to type, but I’ve been powering through it.

I don’t want to end on that downbeat note, so I will say that I’m really enjoying the work – even when I’m not feeling 100%! This week flew by, I actually can’t believe it’s already my second Friday. Unlike some of my friends who dread going back to work on a Monday, I honestly look forward to it!

As for some other happenings in my life: my brother went back to university last Saturday. It’s strangely quiet around the house without him.
As always, I do a lot of reading and writing in my spare time. You might think I get tired of writing after doing it for work all day – but nope! At the end of the day, I love curling up with my iPad and drafting out a new story.

When I really am too tired to write though, I play video games or read books.

Banana Fish, Vol. 19 by Akimi Yoshida
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What can I actually say about Banana Fish? The series has haunted me for well over a year, and it is one of the few works I consider as a literary masterpiece (in a mixture of subjectivity and objectivity). This was my second time reading the manga, but the first time I had the strength to read Garden of Light.

What a stunning and raw depiction of grief. Banana Fish encapsulates what it means to love. Part of the beauty of Ash and Eiji’s relationship is that there isn’t a label fit to define it. Soulmates, maybe. I’ve never cared about a ‘couple’ the way I cared about this pair.

Arguably, it’s not about their relationship – it’s a story about gang violence, about the cruelty of the world. But their relationship is what constantly keeps the emotional stakes so high. I think Banana Fish has exactly what most action and thriller stories are missing: psychologically real protagonists and relationships. The way their love is portrayed is unlike anything else I’ve ever read. I think that’s why so many people come away from that story with that focus.

Despite all the darkness of Banana Fish, the murder, rape, brutality, you still come away from it thinking of the light: the love these characters have for one another.

You might feel a mixture of things: anger at the injustice that Ash doesn’t get a happy ending, sympathy and heartache for Eiji who is still hurting years later, but also pure admiration for the story that was just spun to you. There are stories where protagonists die at the end, but there really is nothing like Banana Fish. Many people are spoiled for the ending, but nothing actually prepares you for it.

I feel I can never fully express how I feel about the series. I could probably spend a lifetime unpacking it and never be satisfied.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a creepy-cute style show about two brothers who get lost in a strange forest. If you liked Coraline, you’ll most definitely like it.

The Witcher fans could have banded together to buy a house

The Kickstarter for the The Witcher: Ronin – A Hard Copy Collector’s Edition Manga smashed its original goal within a matter of hours. That didn’t stop fans from continuing to pledge, though. The Kickstarter ended with a whopping €678,036, that’s exactly £579,580… and 27 pence. A whole 750% of the original goal.

Irresistible rewards and gorgeous art promised to Kickstarter pledgers no doubt were the root of its success.

If you’re wondering why fans continued to donate even after the goal was met, a quick gander at the rewards on Kickstarter will tell you why. All Kickstarter pledgers of the lowest tier have been promised a copy of the manga, as well as a postcard with the variant cover artwork. If you shelled out another €15 euros, you’d get a poster as well.

20 dedicated fans pledged €150 to get all that, plus a hand drawn sketch by artist Hayata. It’s honestly a pretty sweet deal, hence it was limited to 20 backers max.

One lucky sod got themselves the €1,050 pledge with a hand-drawn black and white cover by Hayata – wow. I think they deserve to have the Witcher fan bragging rights for life.

In addition, there were several selectable add-ons including a tote bag, sculpture, and pins.

“The Witcher: Ronin presents The Witcher universe as if it were based around the rich traditions of Japanese folklore. In a world such as this, the role of a professional monster slayer is just as essential — as dangerous Yokai and Oni (Japanese spirits and demons) are constantly on the prowl.”

This exciting take on The Witcher series looks absolutely gorgeous, and I’m so excited to see Geralt in a completely new environment. The Kickstarter edition will include 55 extra pages of content: 45 of side-stories, and 10 making-of pages. You might have missed the Kickstarter, but you’ll at least be able to purchase the manga when it drops in January 2022.

I’m already fairly confident that this will be another Witcher masterpiece!

This writer hails from the era of Duck Hunt, the Game Gear, Dominik Diamond and Patrick Moore as the GamesMaster on Channel 4. Playing a bit of Actua Soccer on the PC or heading downstairs (and a few years earlier) for a bit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on my NES was one of the many things I could do to while away the hours until my mother, every bit the classic South Asian matriarch, would vehemently order me to bed. If, as a teenager approaching those first big life decisions, I had said to my parents that I wanted to go to Uni to study gaming – as in the design and creation of video games – this wouldn’t have met with much satisfaction from neither them, nor from most other parents back in those days. Fast forward 25 years and we live in a world full of possibilities for young people who want to take their passion for gaming and forge a career in the world they love.

If you are reading this and are wondering where on earth you could study gaming, then the UK is a pretty good place to be looking. With over 200 institutions offering undergraduate courses and qualification on this island alone, finding the right fit for you and the subject specialty you want to pursue with top-class teaching isn’t as daunting as you might think. See one of these courses through to the end and you’ll have an internationally recognised qualification along together with a suite of transferable skills that’ll have you ready for career lift-off, no matter which road you go down.

As is relatively standard here in Britain, undergraduate courses usually take around three years to complete and many of these degrees have partnerships with organisations and companies within the video gaming ecosystem, so in some cases, job progression happens straight out of graduation – or your degree is a four-year course with the third or fourth year spent working within the industry at a specified placement. On top of all this, you will be making your bones in some of the best gaming laboratories going – this country is well-known for its tech learning spaces and the depth, variety and detail to which you can go studying in this area.

All courses offered across the country place huge importance on career skills – so alongside coding, design, theory and programming, you’ll also be bestowed with the knowledge and tools to establish your own game design studio, which means a strong focus on sales and marketing. Look out also when you are searching for courses that are TIGA accredited. TIGA is the leading authority on video games in the UK. For TIGA accreditation, universities will have to be able to prove how many of their graduates have then gone on to work in the video games industry. What does this all mean? Well, if you graduate with a TIGA-accredited qualification, your chances of employment in the sector do increase.

At £75bn, the global video games industry despite its constant changes and shifts IS a huge, worldwide and lucrative business.
