Controversial BOILING Hottake incoming, but Hollow Knight is a great game! Yeah, an indie darling that got good reviews definitely needed the input of a random Breadtube Leftist 5 years after release.

Jokes aside, I’m glad to be writing about this game. If I had to sum up Hollow Knight in one sentence: Complex without being complicated.

A Beginner-Friendly Soulslike? In my humble opinion, Hollow Knight is a great combination of Dark Souls difficulty and user-friendly introductions to mechanics. You still have to use a healthy dash (literally and figuratively) of creative thinking with the mechanics to progress at times, but every basic skill you learn is tutorialised in a fun way. The only thing the game doesn’t explicitly tell you is holding down the jump button longer or shorter is extremely useful for dodging many boss attacks.

As you explore the world, movement throughout it also becomes more viscerally enjoyable. Discovering dashes, wall-climbing and more skills drastically influences your gameplay style, like adding a new topping to the proverbial digital pizza!

First learn stand, then learn fly: You start off with nothing but a sword and ‘soul’ gauge. Hitting most non-boss enemies pushes you away from them slightly in a way that encourages a pattern of forward-moving rhythmic slashes at first before paying more attention to attack patterns as time goes on. Every time you slash some unfortunate chibi bug-creature, your soul gauge fills up a little. On a full tank (upgrades notwithstanding), you can heal up to three ‘masks’ (your healthbar system). I like this system because although you won’t be able to get through parts of the game without hitting a certain skill ceiling, it encourages exploration of the vast world. Exploration leads to finding useful items or skills. Useful items and skills lead to you becoming more powerful. Let’s talk about those items, shall we?

Charmed to make your acquaintance: Throughout the game, you can buy or unlock charms. You can only use a limited number of them depending how many notches you have (which can be increased with future unlocks). Alternatively, you can ‘overcharm’ yourself by turning yourself into a charmed Everything Burger to use all the skills at once with the added risk of taking extra damage.

Different charm combinations offer different powers and advantages in gameplay, so I highly recommend experimenting with them. In addition, some bonus areas in-game can be unlocked by wearing a specific charm to a location, usually one that matches the aesthetic of your charm. Among my favorite charm combinations is the Defender’s Crest and Glowing Womb, which gradually drains some of your soul in exchange for a… Mutually beneficial explosion, let’s say.

I play for the plot… Wait- NO, not that one! Which is to say, most of the Soulslike games I play don’t have the best story delivery. Reading item descriptions can unfortunately feel like homework at times and needing that baseline knowledge to understand what the NPC locals are on about can be a pain, which is a shame because I really like story-based games. I imagine my mild story-based gripe with Bloodborne is because reading item descriptions can feel like busywork that’s cutting into your gameplay time, rather than a diegetic moment of exposition… So why on God’s green earth do I think Hollow Knight does that in a way that’s fun!?

Hard to articulate in a way, but I can’t express enough how much the world of Hollow Knight evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity. You have one brief opening crawl at the beginning, a hauntingly ominous cutscene where your character looks like a traumatized soldier, then boom. The music kicks in, you talk to the local (soon to be locals), and off you trot throughout the world. Finding a new character out in the wild really feels like an oddly wholesome affair, even when some interactions leave you dreading whatever’s being foreshadowed.

To borrow a (currently unreleased) quote from my upcoming personal blog post, “I do love a good farce”, so sit down and strap on as I tell you a tale from the annals of Elden Ring!

The year is twenty-two and twenty, a decently-sunny yet chilly March morn. Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West released back-to-back, Sifu was fun, one of my blogs was sent to the big-mandem at Nintendo. This is the setting in which we fall upon our hero, a professional Redditeer by the monicer u/xdc_lis, who shall henceforth be referred to as Lizzie Marvel!

Twas a common pastime of trolls and ne’er do wells to invade the worlds of their fellow virtual countrymen and perform acts of varying moral fortitude on them. This usually comes in the form of players “invading” each other’s worlds, be it for cooperation, a duel or dishonorable assassination attempts!

While farming for in-game souls (experience points), our epic protagonist Lizzie spotted a far away rival player seeking to inflict death and destruction!

Luckily for Lizzie, they were adorned in the fashion of nearby NPCs (non-playable characters), so with quick-thinking and shrewd intellect, they drew no weapon except a trusty torch and walked up and down the pasture! The hunt was on and an impostor was… Among Us!

Our deadly invader searched high and low for Lizzie, not unlike every pro-monarchist when the Queen had to “enter a new phase“!

Lizzie’s mega-minded strategy of hiding in plain sight was a success and the invader soon left, never to return again.

Oh, Quantic Dream. I’d say we need to talk about branding, but at this point, you doing anything other than what you’ve been doing before is going to be an improvement, no matter how minuscule! So, congratulations for possibly taking steps to avoid falling into the same pit as the folks at TellTale!

Before we get to the comedy game news, PLOT TWIST, turns out Quantic Dreams has been put in charge of a new Star Wars game! It’s called Star Wars Eclipse. I’ll keep the details on that limited for now, but you can read my blog on the Quantic Dreams star wars rumors, and our other Star Wars Eclipse blogs for more.

Twitter user and former Quantic Dream employee ‘@AccNgT‘ tweeted screenshots of Star Wars Eclipse days before it’s resurgence in The Game Awards and more recently, claimed the ‘core Paris team’ of Quantic Dream will be working on another game.

This second game is reportedly based on the tech demo for past Quantic Dream game, ‘The Dark Sorcerer’, so we may be seeing a sort of self-aware comedy on the fantasy genre. Maybe in the vein of Konosuba or the various DnD campaigns YouTubers have been making.

Have a butcher’s at the Dark Sorcerer E3 footage here. Skip the rest of this paragraph to avoid a spoiler for it in 3, 2, 1- The twist is the game actually takes place on an in-universe film set, followed by some in-universe blooper reels of the actors comically ad libbing about the film.

On December 10th, industry insider Tom Henderson (regarding Star Wars Eclipse) claimed that David Cage (writer for Detroit: Become Human and other so-bad-they’re-good “narrative” games) will be “very much involved”. Your mileage on that may vary, but hey, between The Mandalorian, Star Wars Visions and the Clone Wars series finale, sometimes you can’t make space-clotted cream without getting at a couple blue-milk teets in the process!

Henderson also (seemingly) alluded to the sexual assault allegations levied at Quantic Dreams staff in 2019 with ‘[Quantic Dream] Paris is currently struggling with hiring staff (I wonder why)’. I bring this up because- SWEET JESUS CHRIST, not a good look my dude! Implicitly sarcastic statements like that are meant to be saved for various roastings of corporations and powerful figures from the perspective of The Little Guy TM! Hence why Bobby Kotick and the tom-foolery at Activision Blizzard are a favorite proverbial punching bag of mine. I mean, if Monsieur Bobbert Kotique turned around one day and said “oh no, we’re losing so many employees right now, I wonder whyyyy *wink*“, the Tumblr-Liberals and Twitter mobs of varying legitimacy would be frothing at the mouth like-

Okay, let’s get the obvious reason out of the way, Capcom Cup 2021 and the Street Fighter League World Championships 2021 LITERALLY can’t happen! It’s 2022 for Dio’s sake!

On a simultaneously more AND less obvious note, Capcom, the company behind hit franchises Street Fighter and Resident Evil, have decided to cancel the Capcom Cup gaming tournament due to rising COVID-19 cases and concerns around omicron. This marks the second time Capcom has cancelled in-person events for this reason.

Rather than the initially planned February ’22 date, the event will instead take place online.

On a vaguely related note… Nintendo. Honey. Baby. My adorable f*ck-master of galactic destruction. Maybe take a couple notes from Capcom on this and DON’T give third-party tournament organizers a hard time for doing something that LITERALLY promotes your games! Hello everyone. I’ve been working at Go2Games for around 3 months. As today’s a bit slow news-wise, thought I’d take a page out of Aslan’s book and write a little on my time with the company.

How does my work… Work? I’m so glad I asked! Barring extenuating circumstances, most of my Go2Games work varies between two types of tasks. One is the comedy news blogs where I showcase my terminal addiction to “Bobbert Kotique”, anti-corporate mockery and highly suggestive poems about Lottie from Animal Crossing! The other kind of task is ‘descrips’, wherein I essentially write slightly re-worded descriptions and information about a list of products on a shared document that (I’m assuming) will be coming to the Go2Games store. For some ungodly reason, I find the descrips harder to burn through, but have been improving with them.

Why the YouTube Fetish? I have a tendency to link to and source YouTubers in alot of my blogs because inserting links from different places helps improve analytics… Somehow. Besides that, I also understand some people can be skeptical of “oh, you heard someone say that in an internet video? That doesn’t sound dodgy in the slightest”. That’s fair enough in a lot of cases, but most of the content creators I reference or enjoy also heavily cite their sources for different claims, which can SOMETIMES be a good way of separating the Weetabix from the chaff grenades. I say sometimes because blokes like Steven Chowder or Carlgon of Schmitt are also big creators who make a song and dance about having citations, but those guys have gotten their intellectual spanking from every lefty YouTuber and their grandma, so won’t dwell on them too much here. Speaking of YouTube, have a look at my channel Top-Not Analysis.

Product Poems? Really? Really, really. This blog branch of Go2Games has to make money somehow and part of that is through linking products on the Go2Games store into blogs. Some things are easier to integrate than others, so I came up with Product Poems as a fun way to circumvent that by tacking them on at the end.

In summary: Working at Go2Games has been a very fruitful and enjoyable experience. My colleagues and higher-ups have been very friendly, I’m glad to say I’ve had the opportunity to work with them.

When in doubt, insult one out! Click here for my last “explained in insults” homage blog on Elden Ring gameplay tips. Now without further ado, call me a policeman getting railed by David Cameron, because you’re about to experience roasting that’s only been reserved for the spit until now!

Port Won: Contex: Elden Ring will be dropping February 25th 2022, but if- no, you WANT to get the pre-order copies we have here at Go2Games if you want to get at the game with a couple handy-dandy extras. And lo and behold, I’ve got a blog on the different Elden Ring Pre-Order bonuses too!

Now for the story: The world and lore was largely made by George RR Martin, so imagine my shock at the primary Elden Ring setting being the creatively named “Lands Between”… LANDS BETWEEN WHAT GEORGE? Cleavage? Gatwick Airport? The British Isles? AQUAMAN!? We’ll find out during the game.

Now, to heavily paraphrase the story trailer’s narrator:

“Bruuh, like, there was these thieves. And they took the death rune. And like, I need my runes man. Like. This is like, a particular strand of death rune I’m not allergic to man. So like. If you could get it for me? That’d be great? And maybe some burgers, fried chicken, a pizza, and fix The Titular Elden Ring to prevent the fall of our society and pantheon of Gods, like, only if you’re cool with that” – The Narrator.

Also, the game’s opening NPCs really like poking fun at how you don’t have a catgirl maid waiting on you hand and foot… At least, that’s what I think “Maidenless” means, but who cares! No VaatiVidya lore analysis till you can do 50 parries with your knuckles!

I hope that Titular Elden Ring stays broken if only because I can imagine where some of you will put it, and probably not on your finger!

And FromSoftware, please try not to have such mean NPCs poking fun at the player… I mean, that’s MY job!

The eternal discourse on the question of deleting thy former lover’s Animal Crossing save data has left the hearts and minds of man, woman and nonbinarie with equal perplexity and discontent of mind. Yet I, Stefan of Saranta-Pasley shall attempt to provide a final answer to this decades-long conundrum… Should one of sound mind delete the progress of a former lo- ABSOLUTELY NOT! A little backstory: The year is 2020. Pandemic soaring, anti-maskers in Hyde Park, quarantining at it’s height resulting in long periods of indoor isolation from the outside world… Then Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons release on the same day! This results in droves of memes and fanfictions depicting the wholesome cute Animal Crossing cast annihilating the alien hordes of hell while the viciously deadly Doomguy takes a little time out from his schedule to go fishing on an island resort. Needless to say, life was good!

The Go2Games Product Poem Power-Hour:

1. If your gamer-pad’s a tip, try our rad joy-con grip. Won’t smell like Febreeze or clean up with ease, but for AC fans, will appease.
2. There was once an AMIIBO named Lottie, who Villager found quite the totty. Had a WiFi connection and well-timed erection, but Last of Us 2 still won GOTY.

Why This Title? Well, one Isaiah Colbert from Kotaku, recently wrote an article titled ‘Deleting my Ex’s Animal Crossing Save Data‘. I then started writing the article from the perspective of “let’s make fun of a hypothetical person who thinks deleting your ex’s Animal Crossing data on purpose is a morally justifiable position”… Because I found that exercise to be, in layman’s terms, funny as the realistically-implemented horse-bollocks in Red Dead Redemption 2 (psst, which we have)!!!

With that said, I haven’t read Isaiah’s article, for all I know, maybe his ex gave him the Switch with her save data and it’s a heartrending ballad about how wiping her Animal Crossing progress helped him become a strong independent gamer who don’t need no save data. Just putting that out there in case anyone from Tumblr or Twitter mobs ended up misreading this as an invitation to harass Isaiah, though let’s be honest, even if I did make that “invitation”, just… Please don’t. Dropping the airy-fairy tone now, don’t harass folks online. Even if it turns out it was in the tone of “oopsie, deleted my ex’s Animal Crossing, but I can’t help it, I’m a Libra”, just be the bigger man/woman/nonbinary and enjoy your life.

Fortnite has accidentally given hundreds of players a legendary harvesting tool, the Axe of Champions. And as an aficionado of all things BTEC-Media studies related, I’d say ‘Axe’ reeks a smidge of false advertising. That said, I suppose ‘The Pointy Gold Stick With a Tacky-Looking Insignia Of Champions’ doesn’t have the same ring to it. This item is awarded to winners of Fortnite’s Champion Series tournaments, where the best of the best compete for that sweet sweet greenback. The moola. That cheddar. That C.R.E.A.M. Dolla dolla bill y’all!

At time of writing (12/11/2021), there are only 21 Fortnite Champion Series tournament victors of the millions of players in Fortnite. These axes are also passed around whenever any of the main 21 loses champion status, it’s just those 21 axes in circulation at any given time. If you’d rather get Fortnite items ON PURPOSE for a change, we’ve got Fortnite bundles you can buy for various consoles and some appropriately-themed Fortnite toys for any parents looking to quell the hyperactivity of a caffeine-fueled Zoomer before the Christmas season. Heck, we have a Fortnite themed Christmas bauble for crying out loud! The Fortnite Grand Royale will start this week with the Middle East Grand Royale Qualifiers before the finals take place on November 20th and 21st.

Considering the Elden Ring resolution and performance info, the pre-order bonuses (wink wink, nudge nudge, got em here), the 20 minute gameplay preview and the confirmed February 25th release date, it’s been a good month for Elden Ring hype lately!

The good folks at FromSoftware have released some pre-release tips and tricks for stealth and combat, but I’m an artiste, I fancy myself a bit of an auteur at the best of times and in the words of legendary director Tuentin Quarantino, “good artists steal”! So in a loving homage to Windette (a favourite YouTuber you may remember from my article on Gaming YouTubers), sit down and strap on for Elden Ring gameplay tips… Explained in Insults Edition!

Part Won… The Plot- It must be your lucky day because Elden Ring has implemented a crouching mechanic for stealth purposes, but let’s not mince words, that thing might as well be renamed The Never Finding Titanite foundation, or NFT’s for short– MUCH LIKE YOUR PEEN! And thank goodness I don’t have to handhold you throughout the open world because even the developers predicted how your namby pamby booter patooter needs “Grace’s Guidance”, a Ghost of Tsushima-style way of nudging the player in the right direction.

These rays of sunshine will help direct you to Sites of Grace, the in-game equivalent to bonfires and resting spots you use to recoup your health. If the Elden Ring preview’s anything to go by, majestic flame-beastial flighty f*ck-masters of galactic destruction CAN AND WILL be roaming the map looking for fresh (or in your case, soiled) meat! So rest when you find one and don’t be afraid to trek off the beaten path if your Tinybox-Tim-looking ass is getting handed to you one too many times. Good? Good!

Part Too… Stelf: Hiding in grass provides the one-two combonus of hiding you in plain sight from enemies AND increasing your damage for stealth kills from behind and above because any enemy that has to stare down your ugly mug before dying would probably come back to haunt your ass for revenge!

The Shattering tainted these lands with chaos. Even a traveler who follows the path of grace must be cunning and cautious in equal measures.

Pawt Free: Comb-at? Honey. Baby. Darling. LIGHT OF MY LIFE, I’m not gonna hurt ya. I’m just gonna use stance-breaking on you and score a critical hit as a result. “Charge attacks and jump attacks make it particularly easy to break an enemy’s stance” according to FromSoftware. I see you Sekiro fans in the back nodding, but don’t unclench your cheeks till you can parry the magical equivalent of an atom bomb with your pinky toe! The fact that your extra Boss Gauntlet mode familiarity functions like the Elden Ring “Stake of Marika” statues that act as respawn points after boss battles is completely luck-based! Back in my day, we had to run up a mile-high winding staircase with arrows reducing our pelvic thrustal performance and by extension, having lost half a health bar before even beginning to sign the death waver for an ensuing boss fight!

and it looks… surprisingly good?

As we know, a feature film adaptation of Gearbox’s Borderland game series has been in production for a while. Well, we can tell you now, it has finally finished filming.

When Lionsgate’s adaptation was announced, fans felt a mix of excitement and nerves, as we always do with film adaptations of games. We know from the past that they rarely recreate the same magic as their video game counterpart. It will be tough to recreate the world of Pandora’s whacky brilliance. However, some of the details we’ve seen so far provoke some optimism.

For example, the cast is actually surprisingly impressive. It includes Cate Blanchett (Lilith), Jamie Lee Curtis (Dr Patricia Tannis) and the always hilarious duo of Kevin Hart (Roland) and Jack Black (Clap Trap). This cast, alongside the director-writer duo of Eli Roth and Chernobyl writer Craig Maxin, means we may actually have something to be excited about.

I’m particularly eager to see how Jack Black’s Claptrap translates to the big screen. I personally love that casting selection and have high hopes for Claptrap’s movie endeavours. Although we do not have excessive detail to go on for most of the characters, we at least know how Jack Black’s claptrap will appear on the screen (see below).

It appears that Claptrap will be maintaining the same look on the screen. On the other hand, the other characters have been kept in the shadows (quite literally, see below).

Despite their faces being kept in the dark, it seems our favourite characters will be maintaining a lot of the same appearances as in the games (at least outfit wise).

The film’s synopsis reads as follows “Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Arianna Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistent wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

The news of the filming coming to an end comes shortly after the new Borderland spinoff game ‘Tiny Tina’s Wonderland’ was revealed at E3, 2021. Borderlands fans have a lot to look forward to in the next two years.

In terms of a release date, due to filming having just finished, we predict the post-production processes will mean a 2022 release.
