It’s been an exciting 6 months here at Go2Games but it’s time to say goodbye…

It’s crazy to think that 6 months ago I was sitting down to write my very first article for the Go2Games, regarding how Super Mario World was now playable on a widescreen aspect ratio, and now I am writing my last.

it’s been a delight to work at the company for the short, yet sweet time I have been here and wanted to summarise my experience and what I have enjoyed the most in one last article.

My Time At Go2Games

Throughout my time here at Go2Games, I have constantly thought to myself about how lucky I am to have a job where I get to write about video games all day long. It really felt too good to be true when the job of Content Writer was offered to me, yet here I am, 6 months down the line, and I still have to pinch myself sometimes at the fantastic opportunity that was given to me. I truly understood the saying of finding a job you love and you’ll never have to work again because I have had a tremendous time writing about my favourite games whenever I can.

Something I have specifically enjoyed writing about is all the different collaborations that have happened/announced in the last 6 months. As an avid fangirl, I have always enjoyed the idea of showing how much you love something by wearing it and seeing all the cool collaborations has made me somewhat envious I cannot afford them all. The Pokémon Seiko watches certainly caught my eye, as did the retro gaming trainers made by The Sole Supplier. The craziest collaborations have to go to Xbox though, for managing to get a Gucci limited edition Xbox Series X console, Halo Infinite Swarovski Crystal Replica, and even getting a Halo Infinite painting commissioned for London’s Saatchi Gallery.

I have also enjoyed writing about the various video game adaptations that have been announced over the last half of the year. I was particularly excited to write about Hayley Atwell donning the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider anime series, as well as talking about the Halo live-action TV adaptation for Paramount+. Both projects I am excited to see when they are released.

Vice versa, I enjoyed writing about my favourite TV shows that are receiving video game adaptations. One of my most popular blogs is regarding the story arcs and characters revealed for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles which I am very proud of. I also got to write about the new RWBY game that is being released next year, as well as the video game in development for Netflix’s The Dragon Prince. It’s been a real joy to put my passion for these shows into my work and I am very grateful to have experienced this opportunity.

There have been so many unforgettable moments working at Go2Games that I could go on forever, but thank you to everyone that I got to work with and another thank you to anyone that clicked on any article I wrote. It’s been an honour.

Hades has done it again by achieving something that was physically impossible a couple of years ago…

Hades has had not one, but two successful years when it comes to winning awards. Last year it received multiple awards including Best Indie, Best Action, Best Audio, Best Writing, and Best Game across different gaming publications, and now it has won another award from the Hugo Awards.

The Hugo Awards celebrates the best of science fiction across various types of mediums and for the first time ever, has included video games in the mix of awards this year.

Hades wins Best Video Game

Hades won the award for Best Video Game, beating the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Spiritfarer, and The Last Of Us: Part II, the game that previously beat Hades for the Best Game of the Year award at last year’s Game Awards.

Hades‘ Creative Director, Greg Kasavin, accepted the award by giving a virtual acceptance speech and mentions he was grateful for the roguelike action dungeon crawler to be recognised by the workers in the game industry.

It hasn’t been decided whether the Best Video Game award will be sticking around after this year, so for the time being, Hades is its first and only winner. Yet the Hugo Awards have introduced digital content categories before, such as podcasts and streaming videos (The Old Guard won for Best Dramatic Performance, Long Form), so it’s easily possible the category will be made permanent for future awards.

Hades was released on Nintendo Switch and PC in September 2020 and was later released on PlayStation and Xbox earlier this year.

Hazelight’s action-adventure took home 3 awards at last night’s Game Awards

Last night was packed full of gaming celebrations, highlights, and surprises at The Game Awards 2021 in Los Angeles. So many iconic games from this year picked up awards for their impact on the gaming community, as well as plenty of announcements for future releases and adaptations.

But there was one game that took home the top prize of the night, as well as 2 other awards, and that was It Takes Two. 

The Game Awards Winners

If you aren’t aware, It Takes Two is a co-op action-adventure game developed by Hazelight and published by EA. It is specifically designed for split-screen cooperative multiplayer and sees players play as the couple Cody and May, two humans that have been turned into dolls by a magic spell. Trapped in a fantastical world, they’re put through challenges of saving their fractured relationship by the love guru Dr. Hakim.

It Takes Two took home the top prize of the Game of the Year award as well as the awards for Best Multiplayer and Best Family Game too.

Other games that took home multiple awards included Forza Horizon 5 for Best Sports/Racing, Best Audio Design, and Innovation in Accessibility. Deathloop, which had 9 nominations, ended up taking home 2 awards, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits won Best Indie and Best Indie Debut.

Sonic fans are certainly in for a few treats and surprises at the Game Awards 2021

The movie poster for the upcoming sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been released by SEGA and Paramount.

Not only that, but the poster was specifically dropped so fans could get hyped ahead of the Game Awards 2021 as it was also announced the trailer will be premiered at the award show.

The movie poster for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 features Sonic and Tails onboard an aeroplane, being pursued the sky by Dr. Robotnik. There are no signs of Knuckles, but it has been confirmed the echidna will be making his debut in this next movie, voiced by none other than Idris Elba.

The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer will be shown at the Game Awards, along with the actors Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz (Dr. Robotnik and voice of Sonic), who will appear during the Game Awards to promote the film.

Geoff Keighley, the award show’s host and owner, recently gave hints that Sonic fans were in for a treat for another big gaming reveal, so it’s possible there will be a double whammy of news to look forward to.

Geoff Keighley replied to a tweet claiming that there will be a number of big announcements during the Game Awards 2021, and Keighley’s response confirmed that statement. He then was asked if he was a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, to which Keighley replied with “very much so” and the eyes emoji, something usually used to draw attention or deliberately act suspicious regarding something.

The official Twitter account for Sonic the Hedgehog then responded by asking for tickets for the award show, playing along with Keighley. People are guessing this announcement will be for Sonic Frontiers.

The post Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Movie Poster Released Ahead of Trailer Premiering at the Game Awards first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Nothing comes close to this celebratory event

The day has finally come for Halo fans to get a hold of their copy of Halo Infinite and immerse themselves once more as Master Chief. We have already written loads regarding all the different events and collaborations Xbox has done to celebrate the release, but this one really tops them all.

For a limited time only, Halo fans in the UK will be able to visit London’s Saatchi Gallery to admire a 6-metre wide piece of art specifically commissioned for the first-person shooter series.

Xbox commissioned renowned artist Iva Troj to produce a large 6m by 3m painting to display at the Saatchi Gallery for the celebration of Halo Infinite’s launch date.

The painting has been created in a Renaissance art style, the style Troj is most famous for, and depicts Master Chief engaging in battle with his enemies. The painting was so big that Xbox had to build a special cubicle for Trouj and her team to work on it.

The piece of artwork was revealed on the Xbox YouTube channel titled “Masterpiece”, in which a choir stands next to the painting singing the iconic Halo theme.

 

Creating this painting was a labour of love for me. I love the Halo universe and the storytelling in it, and I also know what this work will mean to fans of the series. I wanted to get everything right, from the colours to the characters – I must have drawn and redrawn Master Chief 50 times – and it also had to tell a story. I hope that people see the painting has been created with love and respect for the world of Halo. It was an amazing experience for me. – Iva Trouj

 

It is currently being displayed at the Saatchi Gallery located in Duke of York Square (near Sloane Square Tube Station) for one week only so you better visit quickly! There is also a smaller replica of the piece on display at the Carrousel du Louvre shopping centre in Paris until December 19.

The lasagna-loving cat will be the first additional character since the game’s launch

Last week Ludosity and Fair Play Labs announced Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be receiving new skins, in regards to the fighting brawl game receiving its first DLC.

And from tomorrow, a new character will be added to the roster in the game’s first add-on character since the game’s launch.

Garfield in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

There could only be one character that would be the first add-on to the mega Nickelodeon fighting brawl game and it is none other than everybody’s favourite cat and meme, Garfield.

Garfield will be free additional content for the game on December 9 and can already be seen busting his fighter moves in the specially made trailer for his arrival to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. He will also come with his own Pokémon stadium-esque stage with a special lasagna twist.

Fans of the game aren’t surprised by this addition though, as dataminers had already cracked the game files open in order to see what was in store for the game. Garfield was one of the first characters leaked, so now he is coming to the game, we can also expect the likes of these characters:

You’ll be amazed at the talent behind this new Netflix anime movie

Netflix released a trailer for an original anime movie that is expected to release in Spring 2022 and I honestly could not be more excited.

Bubble is expected to release on April 28, 2022, and has all the makings of an open-world platforming game set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo where, you’ve guessed it, has gravity-defying bubbles…?

Bubble is actually a retelling of a classic Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, The Little Mermaid, where instead of a mermaid falling in love, transforms into a human, has her heartbroken, and turns into bubbles, it’s actually a bubble that transforms into a girl.

Just normal anime plotlines.

Yet it is also set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo that has been overtaken by nature and cut off from the rest of the world after abnormal bubbles rained down everywhere and allowed people to defy the laws of gravity. Now, Tokyo has become a playground for young adults that have lost their families for their parkour team battles as they leap from building to building. The movie will follow the protagonist Hibiki a young man who is known for his dangerous parkour style, after he makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea, and is then saved by a girl, Uta.  Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world.

Post-apocalyptic Tokyo where nature overruns the city certainly isn’t a new concept. Makoto Shinkai’s most recent feature, Weathering With You, also plays with the concept of world-alternating rainfall, and the Netflix series Japan Sinks: 2020 is an adaptation of a novel that puts an ordinary family to the test as a series of massive earthquakes throw Japan into total mayhem. Yet the beautiful animation shown in the trailer for Bubble could easily be the opening sequel for a Japanese open-world platforming game.

The crew behind Bubble are also extraordinary and out-of-this-world talent. Gen Urobuchi, best known for scripting series such as Psycho-Pass, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Fate/Zero is the screenwriter while Tetsurô Araki, best known for directing Death Note and Attack on Titan is taking on the reins as the director. Character designs have been provided by Death Note’s own, Takeshi Obata, and music will be composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, who is behind the soundtracks for Attack on Titan and my personal favourite, Promare. 

Since it is a Netflix original, it would be the perfect opportunity to create a tie-in game for Netlfix’s newest venture and allow viewers to parkour their way through Tokyo. We can only hope.

Bubble is out on Netflix on April 28, 2022.

As The Game Awards draw closer, game announcements are being teased for the award show

It’s now only two days until The Game Awards 2021 takes place from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and everyone is on edge waiting to see what world premieres and announcements the show has for us in store.

Well, it looks like we already have one teaser for what to expect, thanks to interactions on Twitter from the award show’s host and creator, Geoff Keighley, and it’s none other than everybody’s favourite hedgehog.

It all started when Geoff Keighley replied to a tweet claiming that there will be a number of big announcements during the Game Awards 2021, and Keighley’s response confirmed that statement. He then was asked if he was a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, to which Keighley replied with “very much so” and the eyes emoji, something usually used to draw attention or deliberately act suspicious regarding something.

After a few hours had passed, the official Twitter account for Sonic the Hedgehog tweeted the Game Awards’ creator asking if he had spare tickets for the event of Thursday.

This was followed by a very funny reply and quote retweet from Keighley and got fans excited even more at the prospect of a Sonic announcement at the Game Awards 2021.

This would make sense the blue hedgehog has more announcements coming as it’s already been one hell of a year for the 30-year-old franchise. There’s also the discovery of a new domain that has been registered on the official Sonic the Hedgehog website, with the URL frontiers.sonicthehedgehog.com.

The site is unavailable to the public as it presents users with a 403 Forbidden message, but we can expect this to be revealed sometime soon as the 403 message suggests the URL is being used for something.

Sonic Frontiers is believed to be the name of the upcoming open-world Sonic the Hedgehog game that was first teased in May, during a Sonic Central presentation, and is expected to be headed to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC.

We can expect quite a few announcements at the Game Awards this year, as it was also teased there will be another big announcement that has been in the works for over 2 years.

The Japanese indie game has launched on macOS and is also coming to iOS next year

GameTomo, the mastermind behind the magical adventure game Sumire, has announced that the indie title will be coming to iOS in the new year after its launch on macOS.

Sumire is currently available on Nintendo Switch and PC and was released earlier this year.

Sumire is a magical narrative adventure about the choices you make as you embark on a one-day journey through a gorgeous Japanese village where you take on the role of Sumire who is trying to make her wishes come true.

Sumire comes across as a simple game with gameplay that might not appear as anything special, walking around, interacting with old and new friends, and delivering items, but the real draw of the game is everything in between. In particular, the art, characters, music and narrative all add to the experience of playing Sumire. 

Sumire has now officially launched on macOS today and GameTomo has also confirmed it will be released on iOS in 2022 as well.

Sumire is currently available on Steam and Nintendo Switch for $14.99 (£11.31), but it has been discounted on the Mac Store for $9.99 to celebrate the macOS release. No release date or price has been announced for the iOS version, but it will hopefully be announced soon.

Insomniac Games have stated why PS4 users aren’t getting exclusives for Marvel’s Spider-Man 

Spider-Man: No Way Home comes out in over a week here in the UK and it’s shaping up to be the film of the year, maybe even coming for Endgame’s crown for the highest-grossing MCU film in the franchise with how many tickets have been pre-booked already.

And, of course, it means games will be offering exclusives and tie-in events to the movie too, in order to increase the hype. Spider-Man is already coming to Fortnite, and fans can also expect exclusive content for Marvel’s Spider-Man too.

But only for PS5 users.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

The exclusive content for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered includes the red, black, and gold Integrated Suit and the black-and-gold suit from Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will be released on December 10, 5 days before the film drops in the UK.

As you may expect, only having exclusive content for PS5 users will cause an upset amongst the PS4 users, especially when the game was originally released as a PS4 exclusive, yet Insomniac Games gave a reason as to why PS4 users haven’t received this content.

Apparently, the 19 updates that have already happened for Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 was adding additional content that wasn’t originally planned and wears on the streaming performance from PS4’s hard drive, so Insomniac decided to leave the exclusive content out to ensure optimal performance for PS4 users.

Which, in turn, made fans angrier. They believe the reason is not justifiable and believe Insomniac Games is actually moving Marvel’s Spider-Man to be a PS5 exclusive only. The fact Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 exclusive, also backs up this theory.

It’s sad companies resort to this when people might not be able to afford next-gen consoles, so maybe Insomniac Games will listen to the backlash this exclusive content has caused.
